Tasted by Sir-Harrie on 11/28/2022 & rated 91 points: Wow, Great (1063 views)
Tasted by Lable2 on 4/8/2020 & rated 92 points: Smell of gooseberry and lime. Taste of gooseberry, lime and grapefruit, with the slightly bitter sting. Acid is medium. Good long aftertaste. A very good wine. This wine show that some overseas sauvignon blanc can have a longer life than you might think. Kept in a wine fridge since I bought it years ago. (2299 views)
Tasted by HKdrinker on 11/8/2019 & rated 90 points: To echo JVIZ's comment 30 months, on this SB is still drinking nicely. The grassiness has gone and it is now showing notes of vanilla and gooseberry. To be critical, perhaps a little lacking in complexity (2521 views)
Tasted by jviz on 7/10/2017 & rated 91 points: First note in >1 year on this bottling. Doubt if anyone's reading it, however, if you're still holding 2011 Cloudy Bays, open with confidence. Bought this in a bin so very unsure of provenance but worth a shot, and it didn't disappoint. Lost some of the grapefruit and grassiness and actually I pick up a hint of vanilla. Still good juice from a perennial producer (4544 views)
Tasted by Keith Cooper on 3/30/2016 & rated 87 points: I see I'm the first to taste this wine for about 2 years, so I was worried I'd left it too long. The nose is easily identifiable as sauvignon, though the bottle ageing means that there is no longer the nettles and grassiness usually found on younger wines. Rich and full on the palate, still quite long, went well with smoked trout. No difference between the two bottles opened. So we got this just in time. (5830 views)
Tasted by Exered68 on 8/23/2014 & rated 88 points: A clear improvement on first two of a trio purchased. Passion fruit, melon to the fore though not overweaning.

Still prefer Greywacke though seem to be tiring of NZ SBs across the board recently. (5380 views)
Tasted by FjordogFjell on 7/15/2014 & rated 87 points: 3,5/5 Aromatisk og god flott syre, går fint sammen med erfjoriansk fiskesuppe med bjornerot og ymse ferske krydder. (1013 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 7/5/2014 & rated 90 points: Greenish yellow. Expressive nose of the tell-tale grassy, lime, mineralic Sauvignon Blanc style that NZ is so famous for. A bit one dimensional but nice to drink overall. (7514 views)
Tasted by pudding on 5/10/2014 & rated 90 points: This is very fruity on the nose. the acidity is quite strong, better to pair with food (7047 views)
Tasted by avp on 4/6/2014: A bit reticent nose with currant leaf to lemon, melon and slight passion fruit richness.
Dry, balanced and creamy with zesty lemon bite, floral touches and gooseberries. Surprisingly long finish.
Not quite yet there, but getting better with age. (5701 views)
Tasted by Joerg65 on 12/15/2013 & rated 90 points: Very crisp and fruity with tropical flavours - mostly gooseberries and citrus - very well balanced, and nice acid. (5255 views)
Tasted by sandwich on 10/28/2013 & rated 80 points: While making medallions of monkfish, I needed a white wine for my buerre blanc sauce so I thought I would use something that doesn't drink particularly well. The last few bottles I've tasted were simply undrinkable, but I hoped that cooking off the alcohol and reducing it might show something decent. Unfortunately this wine is awful no matter how you use it. The sauce was too acidic and it had nothing to do with the champagne vinegar. I guess I'll save the remaining bottles to use as anti-freeze in my car this winter. Terrible wine. (5530 views)
Tasted by belfast taxman on 9/14/2013: This was very strange - somehow was this bottle filled with Chardonnay?! because this was the most unlike NZ SB that I have ever come across - weird!!! (3802 views)
Tasted by dogsbrekky on 7/23/2013 & rated 88 points: Used to be (when David Hohnen owned this mob and Cape Mentelle) one of the world's great white wines, now it seems to be overpriced average cat pee of some quality..

Ripe green apples, lemon/lime, strong hints of the aforementioned cat pee, very big and bold but now that the French mass produce the stuff taking in god knows whose grapes it has fallen away... kind of like a Kim Crawford at twice the $$$ (4200 views)
Tasted by belfast taxman on 7/20/2013 & rated 89 points: On a warm summer afternoon and delicious battered scampi, this went down a treat - I think it is now well balanced with grapefruit to the fore but not over dominant (4039 views)
Tasted by tastark on 7/16/2013 & rated 86 points: Wow was this ever big and ripe. A little too much, quite honestly. (3450 views)
Tasted by Philippe_C on 7/14/2013 & rated 91 points: Strong nose of pine resine, green apples, hint of catpee, lime citrus, pamplemousse, eucalyptus... taste very pamplemousse, hint of citrus and green apple (3144 views)
Tasted by pmk on 7/13/2013 & rated 90 points: Not as complex as Kim Crawford same vintage. less fruit forward, more citrus, and good acidity at end. Still a great quaff. (2584 views)
Tasted by DoubleMagnum on 7/9/2013 & rated 88 points: More subtle than most Sauvignon Blancs I've tasted this vintage. Well integrated and balanced but it lacks a bit of complexity, especially at this price point. It seems like a toned down version of a Kim Crawford, Oyster Bay or Villa Maria. I don't know if that's worth over 100% markup. (2194 views)
Tasted by zarped on 7/6/2013 & rated 90 points: Toujours aussi plaisant acidité nez fleurs blanches légèrement citronné herbe fraiche en bouche un petit côté acidulé grande longueur (1942 views)
Tasted by Mameitagin on 6/30/2013 & rated 85 points: Guter Sauvignion Blanc. Würde vom Renommee des Produzenten mehr erwarten. Für das Gebotene zu teuer. (2318 views)
Tasted by jmottern on 6/27/2013 & rated 88 points: This is an excellent reliable white wine. Good blended fruit. A very easy summer wine. (2170 views)
Tasted by 3daywinereview.com on 6/14/2013 & rated 80 points: This is about as bad of a Sauvignon Blanc you can make. Over the top grass notes dominate this with a touch of grapefruit. Short to medium finish and not pleasant. (2618 views)
Tasted by stadler on 5/27/2013: Robe jaune citron pâle, jambes bien marquées.
(2458 views)
Tasted by wineshaman on 5/4/2013 & rated 88 points: This bottle had the usual citrus/grapefruit, hints of slate, lively acidity. (2966 views)

2011 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc

Current Tasting Notes
Llifted notes of elderfl ower, green lime zest, and stone fruit. The palate is ripe, fine and succulent, offering zesty ripe citrus fl avours coupled with an edge of minerality and sweet herbs. A small barrel ferment component gives balancing flesh to the wine’s crisp refreshing acidity. A classic wine from an outstanding season.
Vineyard Notes
Grapes were sourced from estate and grower vineyards located in the Rapaura, Fairhall, Renwick and Brancott sub-regions of the Wairau Valley. Free draining, stony soils typify the Rapaura and Renwick areas whilst Fairhall and Brancott are predominantly aged alluvial loams containing some clay. The majority of fruit was grown on a vertical shoot positioned (VSP) trellis with three canes laid down.
