Tasted by Rktekt3 on 4/11/2024 & rated 93 points: I had sat on my last bottle of this for 7 years since last drinking it. I have no more but wish that I did. Still in a good place. (123 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 11/16/2022 & rated 94 points: This was the best Bedrock red I've ever had, and the oldest. A fantastic zin blend that is full-bodied and retains lift with acid and earth. This wine is full-bodied and dense with structure. (847 views)
Tasted by huberww on 11/24/2021 flawed bottle: Corked, sadly. (1007 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 5/23/2021 & rated 93 points: I am not sure of the grapes used here, but it sure tastes like Petite Sirah. Dark and youthful, with black fruits, tar, smoke and grilled pepper steak. Still holding on to its tannic structure. It seems like this could easily age for decades more. (1196 views)
Tasted by GrapeScott on 4/4/2020 & rated 92 points: Pours black as midnight. Floral, peppery, smokey nose of dark black fruits. Full throttle palate exploding with brambly blackberry/blueberry fruit, tar, ripe plum, bay leaf and very perfumed aromas/flavors of violets. Thick chewy tannins a testament to the fact that this is going nowhere fast. Probably an immortal wine, though I will never find out since this was my second and last bottle. Go big or go home. (1590 views)
Tasted by dlstrauss on 3/23/2020 & rated 93 points: Super interesting (1324 views)
Tasted by chadrich on 12/10/2018 & rated 92 points: Dark core with ruby rim. Nose is briar fruits and a bit of creosote. Palate is round and full with notes of raspberry, pomegranate and tar. Firm tannins on the medium plus finish. Drinking really nicely now but has another 3 to 5 years at a minimum. (1554 views)
Tasted by xwine on 11/11/2018: Very nice. Deep, dark, rich fruit, but balanced and easy to drink. (1334 views)
Tasted by chadrich on 9/30/2018 & rated 90 points: Nose of iron, red clay, blackberry. Palate includes cinnamon, black plum, pomegranate. Finish is long with a lingering warmth. (1184 views)
Tasted by silton on 7/26/2018: My bottle had a little chocolate milk getting over-the-hill element to it. Stored on the bottom shelf in a wine cabinet in a garage ranging temp 49-61 degrees over the year, so maybe a little accelerated. Very nice wine but I wish I had opened this a year ago when I first had my eye on it. (1305 views)
Tasted by PSUSteve on 2/25/2018 & rated 93 points: PnP. Got better with some air dark fruit with old world complexity. Wonderful. (1428 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 8/5/2017: Big and rich with oak and spice accents. Not really my style. (1531 views)
Tasted by Screameagle on 7/23/2017 & rated 94 points: This wine is really singing. It definitely needed the ageing I gave it to show its best. Wish I had more. (1974 views)
Tasted by Mootsie on 4/22/2017 & rated 96 points: Prime time. No longer a need to wait on these. Fantastic, smoke/bacon nose with a hint of stems. Sweet dark fruits with just enough tannins for bite and balance. Smoked/peppered meats join in with air. Leans more cool climate Syrah in flavor, but that would be too simple of a description for this gem. Lots going on. Slightly sweet, smoke, tar, pepper, earth. A lovely bottle. Morgan, please make these again. Please, please, please. (1940 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 4/22/2017 & rated 94 points: Pop and pour, this got better with air, but was really drinking well. The nose is nice. Earthy. Some roasted meat notes. Lots of black raspberries. Seems like a lot of Syrah and Mourvedre but who knows. A bit of spice as well. A long life left but getting closer to mature. Plenty of fruit. Outstanding. (2095 views)
Tasted by Rktekt3 on 4/13/2017 & rated 90 points: Last bottle i opened was four years ago. It has integrated more. Still inky black. Loss of that overly tannic component. Nice fruit.

Ready to drink. (1740 views)
Tasted by Sijan on 3/1/2017: On the more restrained & subtle side of Zin/black grape field blends, this is a lovely wine that seems to share something in common with Bordeaux while still using unique California fruit. (1497 views)
Tasted by carlsport on 7/21/2016 & rated 92 points: Better as the night went on. Thick and chewy. Great aromatics. Drank with Darrell - he loved it! (1908 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 4/30/2016 & rated 91 points: Super dark fruit with smoke, tar and great finish (1886 views)
Tasted by sbfireman on 1/10/2016 & rated 95 points: C'mon - Crazy good!! Heed the others advice and give her air, plenty of air. Depth and fluid in the glass. Dark fruit, tar, earth. lovely finish. Bang! (2370 views)
Tasted by PIntag on 12/25/2015: Pop 'n pour - consumed with Italian Christmas dinner of Lasagna and Chicken Piccata. Really good from the get-go. Big wine but not crossing over the line into jammy. Noticeable oak, but unobtrusive and integrated. Great depth of fruit and concentration with really enjoyable flavors. Probably the best Bedrock I've tried for my palate. Note that this bottle was not stored ideally (due to large bottle size), but in a relatively cool and dark partially underground location (temp probably did not get above 72 degrees or so). (2185 views)
Tasted by markandsusanw on 10/4/2015 & rated 91 points: Poured through Vinturi into decanter for approx. 30 min. ... The tannins here are sweet, but the fruit is a little muted. There is smoke, and a little spice, and tart acid pop to close. This showed better on day two, with the heat dissipating totally, and the fruit showing brighter than the tannins, leading me to think it could still use another year or so in the bottle. (2525 views)
Tasted by fredman on 5/24/2015 & rated 92 points: Came together really nicely after a one-hour decant. Good fruit and sweet tannins made this an enjoyable bottle. Drink or hold. (2391 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 4/17/2015: Dark fruits, baking spices, earth and some tree bark are the dominant flavors in this wine which still comes across as youngish yet drinkable with some vigorous swirling. (2413 views)
Tasted by DaButtah on 1/12/2015 & rated 91 points: Still too young but in a better place than I expected. Inky purple color. Dark fruit/berries (blueberry, blackberry), pepper. Coats the mouth. Seemed to close up about two hours after it was opened. Needs another year to fully come together. Another great offering from Bedrock. (2784 views)

2010 Bedrock Wine Co. Papa's All-Blacks

It is very exciting to feature the first blend put together by my father and me. The idea is to make a wine that will last for decades from those varieties first grown in California. The wine is composed of Zinfandel from the ancient Stellwagen and Monte Rosso Vineyards, along with Petite Sirah and Alicante Bouschet from my family’s Bedrock Vineyard. After native-yeast fermentation the wine was put down to 50% new French oak. This is a massively endowed wine, full of fruit and tannin with still prominent oak. I, personally, would stash this one in the back of the cellar and check it out in 4-5 years when the intricacies of its personality can be better seen. 90 cases made.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Sonoma County

Mendocino County

Sonoma Valley

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
