Community Tasting Notes (average 89.6 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 96 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by bhouk on 11/12/2023: Loads of complexity — green apples, matchstick, flinty minerals, subtle bell peppers; very fresh 12 years from vintage. Served a little cooler than cellar temp, which seems just right. Impressive quality. (269 views)
Tasted by Enfant sauvage on 1/21/2022: Last bottle. Still lovely. (1437 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 12/25/2021: Tasted over 2 hrs
-translucent light gold green
-lees-y wet stone and a bit of reduction
-med acidity gives a gentle lift, med- weight soft mildly tart stony yellow fruit, good length
-still drinking very well (1386 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 12/24/2021 flawed bottle: Slightly corked (1361 views)
Tasted by Enfant sauvage on 10/18/2021: Also said goodbye to my last 2011 Briords. $16 on release and drinks like a wine worth four times as much. Classic: chalk, lemon, and brine. This was drinking a touch cleaner and with more fruit than the 2010 on the night. Showing very nicely, not a bad time to drink one if you still have them. The little wine that could. (1470 views)
Tasted by James Kim on 5/30/2021 & rated 91 points: Decanted. Now 1.5 h after decant. Very shy aromas of granny smith apples, lemon, minerals, and just the slightest hint of honeysuckle and cashews. Palate w tart gala apples, some lemon, mild cashews and a hint of honeysuckle, nice minerals. Light- medium body. Excellent acids. Nice lingering finish. Can't believe this is still fairly closed 10 yrs after the vintage. But there's really good stuffing here. There's some evolution and aged characteristics. But this still tastes fresh and young. I think there's more to come. 90+ Edit: Started to open up more nearly 3h after decant. Now beginning to show more aged notes - more honeysuckle and nutty notes on nose and palate but still with a nice mineral cut. Solid 91 at this point but still believe there's more evolution that can happen with age. Open next bottle in 3-5 yrs. (1439 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 10/31/2020: Tasted over 3 hrs
-translucent light med gold
-some waxy lanolin notes of maturity and apple fruit
-med+ acidity marries with the sappy minerality to give a soft zing wrapped in a lightweight mid-palate of gentle orchard fruit and waxy mature elements, faintly oxidized long finish
-good complexity, clearly evolved from last bottle 3 years ago, sitting pretty on its mature plateau (971 views)
Tasted by gbanks on 3/27/2018: Surprisingly savory, perhaps a touch oxidized, but absolutely killer in its slightly funky secondary stage with still enough minerality to carry it through. Long, long finish of oysters and iodine and grass and grilled flowers. Yes, fucking grilled flowers, CT. Wish I'd bought a case of this. (2163 views)
Tasted by greenblanket on 10/17/2017: Applely. Got better as it warmed and opened. More advanced than I thought it might be. On its way to a better place? Time will tell. (2777 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 5/13/2017: tasted over 3 hrs
-translucent pale light yellow green-grey
-faint wax lees melon
-med acidity provides decent verve but also a certain softness to the texture, bright fresh with faint melon, slight minerally tang on the finish
-drinking well now, has lost a little youthful vigor but miles to go before it tires (2960 views)
Tasted by KidC on 2/14/2017 & rated 87 points: Wooly, shellfish nose, some wax and red apples with a rather strong eco feel. In mouth it has a very nice acidity though. But doubtful. I've always liked this one before. But this particular bottle is slightly oxidated and does not hold together very well. It has the appearance of a very old wine. I've had much older Ollivier wines that held up better. I'll take it on bottle variation or a tunnel phase. Have more bottles in the cellar. Hopefully better. I'll try again in two years. (3142 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 9/26/2015 flawed bottle: Corked (4494 views)
Tasted by James Kim on 9/21/2015 & rated 92 points: Had this with oysters and fried fish last night. Such a great pairing. Citrus, granny smith apples, minerals for days, great acids but still rounded. Great balance for a tough vintage. Best QPR on the planet. (906 views)
Tasted by ashegedyn on 8/7/2015: Flinty, wax, quince nose. Medium intensity with the saline flinty notes coming through. Beautiful acidity, fruit and saline notes on taste with a long finish. Wow, this is in a nice place. (3743 views)
Tasted by Kitura on 7/2/2015 & rated 88 points: Good clean, easy drinking wine. Lemons and minerality. Well made. Missing some complexity. (3464 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 3/29/2015: Light weight, typical muscadet aromatics, stunningly brilliant with ideal balance of acidity and intensity, sublime match for oysters, better showing than a bottle last year, still very fresh and youthful. (3340 views)
Tasted by paulst on 3/6/2015 & rated 89 points: Reaching maturity; rather golden with lighter acidity than a year ago or so; honeyed and layered. (3365 views)
Tasted by paulst on 1/12/2015 & rated 87 points: Light earthy with some stoney lemony fruit. (2554 views)
Tasted by Kitura on 1/11/2015 & rated 90 points: Wow! Clear, pale yellow. Lemons and minerals. Lovely acidity. So clean and well made. Delicious with halibut. (2220 views)
Tasted by SiR on 11/7/2014 & rated 90 points: 12.0% - Clear, pale green lemon / clean, medium intensity - citrus (yuzu), fennel, fresh cucumber, some honey notes / dry, med+ racy acidity, light body, med intensity, mineral. This is ridiculusly so good, reliable and unbeatable on the pleasure/price scale. (2373 views)
Tasted by 14frimaire on 7/22/2014: A point. Lovely now. (2840 views)
Tasted by SiR on 4/12/2014 & rated 90 points: 12.0% - clear, bright lemon with a hint of green / clean, med- intensity - citrus, white flower, cucumber like freshness, dill, good spice note as it warms up a bit / dry, med to high zippy acidity, light body, med intensity, mineral and probably the best thing that could be paired with a bouillabaisse. I think this improved over the few bottles I had last year, and the Clos des Briords stands out more for this vintage in comparison to the 2010's. (3322 views)
Tasted by BillBell73 on 4/8/2014 & rated 91 points: If you're drinking right now, open well in advance and let warm up a bit.
Lemons, limestone, salinity - a perfect match for simply prepared shellfish and will only get better over the next ten years or so. (3102 views)
Tasted by James Kim on 3/23/2014 & rated 91 points: Opened by mistake but never regretted it. Just a lot of rocks, granny smith apples, meyer lemon, a bit of sea salt and rocks. Good depth and beautiful acidity. Not as deep as 2010 but still great mouthfeel and so enjoyable. (889 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 3/21/2014: PopnPour, tasted over 3 hrs
-translucent pale almost colorless light yellow
-saline, minerality, some citrus
-med+ acidity, light weight and concentration but great late mid-palate intensity from the acidity and minerality, just a touch of citrus, decent finish
-excellent, not yet as complex as the '07 was last year (2978 views)

Melon de Bourgogne

Melon de Bourgogne or Melon is a variety of white grape grown primarily in the Loire Valley region of France. It is also grown in North America. It is best known through its use in the white wine Muscadet.

In the U.S., Federal law prevents "Muscadet" from being used for American-produced wine; only the full name of the grape, or the shortened "Melon" can be used.
