Tasted by Winance Tom on 9/26/2023 & rated 93 points: Very impressive wine even after 22 years of cellaring I expect it would’ve been better a few years ago when there would be more of the fruit left, perhaps after 10 to 12 years of cellar time. However, there were still remnants of some red cherry, and a very smooth flavour full of tertiary mysteries. (737 views)
Tasted by Rob_Sutherland on 9/27/2022 & rated 92 points: Fully tertiary, loads of leather, bramble. Quite a good amount of acid and tannin with fading fruit. (1748 views)
Atesora mucha finura. (2034 views)
Tasted by FEDEVIDAL on 2/7/2022 & rated 93 points: Decantado unas dos horas.
(2132 views)
Tasted by Papies on 10/31/2021 & rated 91 points: Probably the softest and roundest of the 6pack we had and easily the most welcoming of all the bottles. That been said it was also the simplest and thus not the best of the bottles . A range of 90-93 over a year and a half and this was a 91 (2588 views)
Tasted by Papies on 8/26/2021 & rated 91 points: PNP and frankly no need we felt. A wine with lots of variability and we have had from undrinkable to 93. This was in the middle like a 91 with just a touch of burnt fruit to spoil the fun. Previous TN more representative. 91 (2502 views)
Tasted by mxpbuy on 6/19/2021 & rated 94 points: Pop 'n Pour but still going strong 2nd day with only a Vin-Vac. 1 tablespoon of sediment. Candied (not jammy) red fruits dominate. Some touches of spice, sweet Oak and herbs. Long finish. Very smooth. Still gorgeous. (2227 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 3/3/2021: Still youthful and primary while showing elegance and refinement. Full nose of candied red cherry with some toast and lots of spice. Silky and concentrated fruit shows pristine balance and delivers a powerful finish that hints at some earthy complexity to come with more age. I don’t drink enough Ribera but sure feels like this has another decade before it starts showing more secondary notes. (1797 views)
Tasted by Papies on 1/22/2021 & rated 90 points: Lots of variability in this wine even among bottles of the same case. We had a poor one so far , one 93 one 92 ( Both wonderful) and in the case of this one a very ok but nowhere near the two good ones.
The nose was off putting to start and thankfully decanting helped but this was nowhere near the wine we have seen on good bottles. A risky wine reminiscent of the variability of old Barolo. 90 at best this time (1947 views)
Tasted by Papies on 12/5/2020 & rated 93 points: The best bottle of the 3 we have had so far ( one flawed and one Papies 92) and we feel the long decant of a good 3 hours definitely helped this wine.
It made it shed the power and showed an elegant, earthy , leathery side , softer and rounder with almost a silky feel. Very solid 93 and please do decant this or at least let it rest a few hours post opening. (1740 views)
Tasted by BordeauxNut on 11/15/2020 & rated 96 points: Last bottle from a case. It was really irresistible in its youth. This may have been the best bottle and notes suggesting this is deteriorating are misleading based on this bottle. This bottle had several years left. 3h decant. Beautifully aromatic with pipe tobacco, a smokiness, some clove, roasted plums and dried fruits. Rich, deeply fruited with a long finish. This is why you age wine. Terrific. (1678 views)
Tasted by Papies on 11/1/2020 & rated 92 points: Ah finally a good bottle! A worthy bottle to test if 2001 in the end was a worthy vintage.
Requires a good hour of decanting and one needs to be careful of the sediment here which can really ruin the experience. Well evolved but still bright and energetic with a juicy dark fruit, well assimilated oak . Savoury wine with a touch of soy and balsamic . Rich fruit but a lot more balanced than the off bottle we had a week ago and really this shows that bottle variation is an issue for these old Spaniards as it is for old Italian reds. We fell this has a t least another 10yrs of good life in it but not sure this will improve. 92 (1510 views)
Tasted by Papies on 10/28/2020: To be determined on second tasting as we are not sure if this just a bad vintage ( Everyone said 2001 was great but Vega didn't make a Unico..). We will not rate on this occasion but will do once we try our other bottles.
The wine felt sweet and like its now paying the price of an overdone and pushed winemaker to make it approachable in its youth. Not burnt but definitely a lot of extraction and there is still almost 20yrs later a lot of american oak feel. Lets see the next bottle but this one was definitely no better than an 88-89 (1317 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 10/2/2020 & rated 92 points: Like the nose better (more detailed and elegant) than the heavyhanded and slightly hot finish...
Quite a nice surprise for me, though... (1166 views)
Tasted by Sigurdur on 4/9/2020 & rated 93 points: Eftir að hafa lesið umsagnir um þennan árgang þá bjóst ég ekki við miklu. (1498 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 6/24/2019 & rated 90 points: these bottles were pretty soft... def'ly time to drink these up... enjoyable but pretty darn elegant so would drink at summer dinner, not at winter ski trip (2737 views)
Tasted by maxima on 5/22/2019 & rated 90 points: Vraiment très beau et suave, assez prêt
et approchable. Pas mal à point. (2579 views)
Tasted by maxima on 2/21/2019 & rated 90 points: Pas mal à point, beau fruit, tannins fins et finale
tout en douceur. Très bon. (3090 views)
Tasted by wurzel68 on 2/9/2019 & rated 91 points: Mittleres rubinrot mit 2 mm Wasserrand; Bouquet von verblassender feiner Beeren- und Kirschfrucht, Tabak, ausgeprägte erdige Noten; am Gaumen abgeschmolzenes Tannin, Lakritznote, feiner, gut ausbalancierter Wein mit langem, komplexen Abgang; trotzdem bereits etwas über die Zeit. Trinken! (2497 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 2/8/2019: A little bit of va now. And not as powerful. Savory sweet tomato and with grip still out of balance (2185 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 12/25/2018 & rated 92 points: just beautiful... this wine immediately impressed with its savory palate, felt like drinking some really good French bistro food, but also had a crystalline mouthfeel and nice fruit on the finish... wow -- what a wine experience, I also felt this had low (and/or declining?) structure so I think it is time to drink this up... a tiny bit soft if I was going to be picky, but lovely / unique wine experience (1631 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 12/13/2018: Nose - perfumed nose, seductive red fruit, savory
Mouth - savory, soy sauce, ripe fruit, elegant and complex. (1609 views)
Tasted by maxima on 12/2/2018 & rated 90 points: Très bon mais pas au niveau du 2004, semble un peu plus
fané et sur le tertiaire...se boit super bien cependant,
suave et bien épicé, rien n`accroche. (1919 views)
Tasted by WineGuyX on 3/28/2018 flawed bottle: Unfortunately, the cork was crumbly and required the use of a Durand to extract. The bottle I had last year was fantastic, but this one is definitely oxidized. Still an opaque color with plenty of body, but the nose in undeniably marred by a stewy oxidation. Still have 2 left! NR (2648 views)
Tasted by DougLee on 3/11/2018 & rated 92 points: Dark garnet. Nose of dried fruit, red berry, and stone. Brooding and concentrated on the palate with layers of blackberry, leather, licorice, balsamic, and beef blood. Freshening acidity and still-firm tannin. Long finish with echoing waves of earthy red berry. stone, and moca. Powerful, excellent wine with years of evolution to go. (2421 views)

Tinto Fino

Tinto Fino or Tinta del País is the local name in Ribera del Duero for Tempranillo, probably Spain’s most famous grape. The name relates to the early fruit ripening, ideal for the harsh continental climate and short growing season of the region.

In Ribera del Duero Tempranillo yields smaller berries, loose clusters and tougher skin, which encourages more skin-to-juice contact and promotes full-bodied, powerful wines that still retain the grape’s renowned elegance. It’s a vibrant, aromatic variety that offers spicy, red fruit aromas and flavors.

The combination of power and elegance represents Tempranillo’s signature in Ribera del Duero, and the region’s singular contribution to winemaking today.

Spain

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
