Aromas of dark fruit, herbs and spice along with a lovely perfumed floral undertone. Full-bodied, with medium tannins and flavors of mixed red and black fruit and fresh herbs. Drinking very nicely at the moment. (J&J) (353 views) | | Tasted by Border Boss on 3/15/2024 & rated 93 points: Double decanted three hours before service. From an original case bought on release. This is an outstanding wine that is still getting better as it ages. Opaque red with no sign of age. The nose was eucalyptus (although that might have been the scented candle our host was burning somewhere in the house) and leather. Great black fruit. Still very young. Hold for a few more years before opening the next bottle. (231 views) | | Tasted by tomoem on 2/24/2024 & rated 90 points: At 12 years old I must state that this is still a terrific Cabernet. Tasted from a magnum. Thanks to Bob D for bringing this one.
Dark colored in glass it begins with vanilla on the nose and interestingly lacks any forward fruits. On the palette the wine shines. A melancholy cherry fruit is the immediate note with a background of vanilla. Mid palette the wine delivers a tomato leaf flavor and bell pepper. The finish is a little closed and dry on the tongue. (326 views) | | Tasted by biggie on 12/18/2023 & rated 94 points: Flower Day - decanted off virtually no sediment. Some wine to the top of the cork along one seam but otherwise only about 1/2 a centimetre of ingress. Garnet core out to a slightly developed edge - no browning but showing a change in colour. Nose is very dark fruit with some light tobacco, new leather, spice and red flowers. Very soft on the palate with rich dark fruit, spice, leather, and cigar box. The finish is long with warm spice, dark fruit, tobacco and leather. This is perfect tonight. (408 views) | | Tasted by macliii on 9/15/2023 & rated 90 points: A bit muted at first on the nose but opened up nicely. Nice dark fruit and menthol on the palette with a small to medium finish. (538 views) | | Tasted by cgrimes on 4/1/2023 & rated 80 points: Syrupy with an overripe nose. Flabby palate of dark fruits. Very little tannic structure. May have been better if drunk on release but not built to age. (703 views) | | Tasted by smokingelk on 3/3/2023 & rated 83 points: I think we held on to it for too long. It was fine. It hadn't gone bad, but it wasn't anything special. (609 views) | | Tasted by PMJak11 on 2/11/2022 & rated 91 points: 30+ minute decant. Dark purple color. Dark fruit and oak on the nose. Smelled better than it tasted. Fruit forward with blackberries, cherries, and plums. High tannins. Medium depth and finish. (1282 views) | | Tasted by Mikebell9325 on 8/29/2021: Deepak wine tasting. (1480 views) | | Tasted by shellylowen on 3/21/2021 & rated 92 points: Big flowery nose, silky tannins, lots of blackberry and plums, long dry finish (1680 views) | | Tasted by Border Boss on 2/19/2021 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured, which was a mistake because it needed aeration. Very dark red with little color loss. Excellent black fruits coming out, with solid tannins. Still has many years of life left. (1572 views) | | Tasted by AllRed on 2/19/2021 & rated 92 points: Friday Night Brown Bagger (Eagle Brook Country Club): Double blind. Tobacco, black fruit and floral elements. The palate follows the bouquet. Nicely balanced. Excellent. (J&J) (1800 views) | | Tasted by shellylowen on 2/6/2021 & rated 92 points: Lots of dark fruit, tar, plums, long finish (1029 views) | | Tasted by DavidWong168 on 5/13/2020 & rated 90 points: Medium ruby. Opened up nicely after a two hour decant. Blackberry and eucalyptus nose with cocoa nib highlights. Deep black fruits and fresh acidity on the palate. Polished tannins show up on the finish, which is medium length and underscored by plum skins and green grape seeds. (1526 views) | | Tasted by redz on 5/6/2020 & rated 91 points: nice napa cab, hitting it's stride. short decNT OK. (1186 views) | | Tasted by fielding49 on 12/24/2019: all around powerful red wine, just the way I like them. Excellent! (1488 views) | | Tasted by Wine Lover 1964 on 12/13/2019 & rated 89 points: Oak still pretty heavy on this wine. Not much else happening. Ok, not anything exceptional. (1497 views) | | Tasted by JeffNy1 on 7/17/2019: Purchased direct from winery at release. Stored in my cellar since then. When first opened, wine had a wonderful nose - dark fruits etc. First few sips were nice. After about 1/2 hour the wine was declining quickly. Very subdued and muted. Even the nice fruit flavors were gone. Left open for another hour to see if the wine would come back around. No luck however. If you have this wine drink now - I don't see it improving with more time. (1920 views) | | Tasted by timbobwhite on 7/10/2019: Decanted for light sediment. No notes taken. Fruit forward with cherry and black currant, nice Rutherford profile. Drinking well now, will hold for years to come. (1314 views) | | Tasted by Ceo on 4/23/2019 & rated 93 points: Better with age!!! | Honig Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
