Community Tasting Notes (average 94.9 pts. and median of 95 pts. in 20 notes) - hiding notes with no text

(2620 views)
Tasted by KPB on 10/24/2021 & rated 95 points: At this stage the port is still extremely young, yet delicious. On the slightly dusty nose, cassis and crushed mint, with deep, savory overtones. Somewhat sweet yet with a tart complexity and a way of evolving in the mouth, ends on a rich, long, mineral note that carries it out endlessly. (3112 views)
Tasted by Chainthroer on 4/1/2019 & rated 95 points: Viscous and chewey. Has lots of blackberry, blackcurrant, blueberry, nutty, herbs and vanillian. Big, powerful, with structure for longivity. But, open enough at this stage for appreciation now. Intense fruit concentration. Nice finish. (5376 views)
Tasted by Rickytoc on 1/4/2018 & rated 95 points: Great balance, love the freshness and balance, less opulent than most. primary fruit right now and will benefit from 20 years of cellaring. (6282 views)
Tasted by alr6767 on 9/26/2016 & rated 94 points: Consumed over 7 days, this is a heck of a port. It was just starting to unfurl on the last day, but was never difficult to enjoy due to heat or tannin. The future is bright for this one. How much better can the Nacional be? (7978 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 7/11/2016: Nose - big berry fruit, 'tutti bosco'
Mouth - rich , sweet, superb boysenberry, blackberry, lovely lush and scarily easy to drink. (6957 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 11/22/2015 & rated 96 points: Opaque black red violet color; aromatic, walnut, toast, savory, dried herb, anise nose; delicious, tight, complex, dried berry, berry cordial, black currant, anise palate; needs 10+ years; long finish (1384 views)
Tasted by theportguy on 10/2/2015 & rated 94 points: 2015 Port Harvest Tour; 9/26/2015-10/3/2015 (Portugal): Impenetrable dark purple in color. Tar and intense licorice nose. Very intense black fruit and some underlying tannins on the palate. Intense mouthfeel. Huge tannins and a very long finish. (2849 views)
Tasted by kmacSF on 12/20/2014 & rated 97 points: Smooth throughout. Luscious blackberry with rising sugar to a small peak then gradual fade leaving the cherry taste and juicy texture on the palette. (3421 views)
Tasted by HonorAmerica on 11/14/2014 & rated 95 points: Barbara at Babette's in Crystal Cove, California was kind enough to give me a taste. Just like Barbara, what an elegant port. Dark purple color, soft tannins, taste of fruit but with the right amount of restraint. Drinking very nicely now, and t will only get better with time. (6974 views)
Tasted by euroyup on 4/6/2014: Colour: very dark purple, almost black. Nose: very fine. In the taste hidden fruit, liquorice and cinnamon with a very nice and refined spiciness. Very soft tannins. It was warm, very concentrated – by far the most concentrated wine I’ve ever tasted so far -, with amazing freshness and purity, very precise. A very stylish wine, however a baby still. Like a flower in the bud, but probably with a very good future. For now 93, with potential for some more points, I guess. (5628 views)
Tasted by yofog on 11/4/2013 & rated 95 points: An elegant and very vinous expression, nose of dense fruit and spirit. Extremely looong. Not that inferior to the Nacional poured alongside. (6094 views)
Tasted by henrygjeffreys on 10/1/2013: n - raw fruit, plums, floral, some coffee
