Tasted by BradE on 2/23/2024: Jon's 50th Friday Night Dinner: For me a variable vintage of DP. This bottle was in the very good camp. (1269 views)
Tasted by shifter on 2/16/2024 & rated 93 points: Jon's 50th Birthday Dinner: PnP. Good color for the age. Honeyed nose and full palate. Very little bubbles remaining. (1213 views)
Tasted by jgreco on 2/2/2024 & rated 86 points: DM Wine Dinner (Canary Club, New York, NY): Well past its prime. Very oxidized. (1384 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 1/18/2024 & rated 96 points: not blind
Great to drink at the moment. Lush, not too aged but with deepness giving aging signs. 96 (1800 views)
Tasted by breadSheeran on 12/4/2023 & rated 97 points: Quite possibly the best wine I’ve ever had. Balance of flavors was dead-on. Light cream and richness but the acidity and clarity still rings through. Bubbles are nice and tight still. (2170 views)
Tasted by The Vines That Bind on 11/26/2023 & rated 95 points: Two terrific bottles this trip. Open knit, warm, round, toasty, but still crisp and clean. Developed spice, light caramel and butterscotch, but mostly youthful and bright. Good bottles like these are still drinking with plenty of energy and verve. Tension and good bubbles. Light gold in the glass. Reference 1990 champagne. This has everything. Classic DP. (1461 views)
Tasted by PourMeSomeMore on 11/24/2023 & rated 97 points: From a magnum stored forever in a friends parents veggie crisper in a fridge not opened for 6 months each year. We had no idea what to expect.
Super tight straight cork that still had a bit of bounce to it. Light golden color, fresh and bright with a fantastic subtle richness & complexity. Incredible 5 inches of fine mousse in the first flute so had to pour the others very slowly followed by lots of long-lasting super fine bubbles. An absolute joy to drink with friends at Thanksgiving! This bottle was still a youngster at 33 years! (1510 views)
Tasted by jviz on 10/22/2023 & rated 97 points: Houston Northern Rhone Blowout: This bottle is showing fabulously. Very fresh, with aromas, suggestive of birthday cake and cream cheese icing, however, not at all fatigued on the palate. This was an especially rich vintage it seems. Thanks to JHNGO! (2276 views)
Tasted by jhngo on 10/22/2023 & rated 95 points: fresh with brioche sweet cream (1606 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 10/18/2023 & rated 93 points: There was surprising amount of yeast here, with insistent acidity. A good wine with lovely deep fruit and pleasant oxidation. (1252 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 10/11/2023 & rated 93 points: Mini 90 horizontal of DP/Cristal/CdC. Youngest here, white fruit, fine mousse, barely any hint of age. 93-94 (1468 views)
Tasted by mpalestini on 10/11/2023 & rated 91 points: If you like mature champagne then this was a success. Dried apple/pears, good acidity up front, hints of lime and minerality. Very little mousse, small bubble faded fast, golden hew. Was a delight to enjoy but i think 5-10yrs off it's prime. Drink up! (1144 views)
Tasted by toppcats@aol.com on 8/10/2023 & rated 92 points: This was the best of the bottles, so far, of the 1990 vintage of DP from my cellar (still one to go). I was met with a good strong 'pop' with cork removal (which was not the case with earlier bottles. Pale yellow to golden color with a slight orangish tint. Lots of small bubbles which faded after about 5 minutes (carbonation though, was still present in mouth), along with a nice mousse noted on each pour. Limited nose (mild apple). On palate - Definite note of apple, hint of honey, butter, and toast, and with presence of mild oxidation note. NOT getting oyster shell or yeastiness notes. Mature DP, a bit past its prime, but still excellent. After several hours, very enjoyable additional notes of caramel and butterscotch on the nose. (1486 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 7/4/2023 & rated 90 points: Not the best of btls. Minimal bubbles, most tasters took a pass. I liked the age and the development of the wine. Drink (1924 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 5/17/2023: Chef's Night (Craig & Nita's Place): Medium gold color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. Mature, deep, baked apricot, honey, oxidative, lemon confit, orange peel, spiced, white pepper. This was mature and showing more oxidation than I care for, but fans of old Champagne may really go for this. Unfortunately, I've never had the pleasure of a '90 Dom that has rocked me But I keep hoping. No official score, gut feeling 88-89pts. (2790 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 5/17/2023 flawed bottle: Shared cooking duties with 5 close buddies each doing a course at our place. Thankfully, Nita helped keep me on track. CV,DM,LI,KB,LS & BB. Super relaxing fun night! Well surely was looking forward to this and it started out semi ok but the oxidation had almost fully blossomed within 45 minutes. I'll admit I'm really sensitive to any sherry notes on my champagnes. Another note will follow from my buddy Kevin and he may have enjoyed this more. That said about 5" remained in a btl at the end of the night that usually would have been drained rather quickly :). Lonny, was excited to share it as he had another btl from the same source recently that was outstanding. So a huge thanks to Lonny for sharing what could have been, WOTN! Dang it! (2479 views)
Tasted by kastrom on 3/23/2023 & rated 95 points: A Magnum bottle at it´s peak, a truely great wine. celerbrating my birthday (3113 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 3/22/2023 & rated 93 points: blind
Not a perfect bottle. I had it a few month ago lushier and more voluptous. Still some toasted toast, no oyster shell. 93 (2994 views)
Tasted by Rob Kelly on 3/21/2023: Drank 80-90 flight. Oldest tasting of them (2359 views)
Tasted by Cailles on 3/18/2023 flawed bottle: Dom Perignon 1959-2012: Ten wines, eight DPs plus a 2002 P2 vs Moet Collection match-up. A superb tasting. All five 40+ years old DPs showed lively, complex, balanced and intellectually as well as hedonistically appealing. Best wine was the 1976 (97pts) which needed air to blow of some faulty/oxidation notes and reveal all its glorious complexity and freshness. Just a step behind (all 96pts) the hyper complex 1959, an almost young-ish 1975, and the still tight but incredibly fine and promising P2. An odd-ball 1980 (95pts), likely a special bottling with higher dosage, showed like a Piper Heidsieck Rare on steroids. The only disappointments were the very slightly corked 2003 (but showed superb substance underneath) and a badly corked 1990.

TN: Too bad, this was badly corked. (2726 views)
Tasted by sirpat00 on 3/12/2023 flawed bottle: Dom Pérignon through Decades: Matter of Taste Masterclass “Dom Pérignon through Decades”. Impressive demonstration of the longevity of Dom Pérignon 1959-2012 with most still decent if not great shape. However, I did prefer the linearity of more recent vintages (2012, 2003) and consequently the wine of the tasting was also the straightest of them all which was the 2002 P2. Of the older vintages 1980 and 1975 were drinking best in my view. More snippets on history, fun facts and wine list included in the tasting story.

Tasting note:
Unfortunately corked and hard to discern details. Probably a nicely aged nose and seemed like there was a plentiful structure behind the palate. (2175 views)
Tasted by ash_then_chase on 2/4/2023 & rated 94 points: Much more advanced than the last Dom 1990. That was purely bruised apple. This kicks off with butterscotch, hints of burnt caramel as well (BQ note, on point). Transitioning after 60 mins in the glass to cold butter. Dare I mention the Land O’ Lakes note… finish of bruised apple, just a hint, totally in balance. @ Chambers (1742 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 2/3/2023 & rated 91 points: 1990 Bordeaux plus X (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein): Medium amber color, fine Mousseux. At first seemed to be completely past peak, but with time and air it developed fine, dense mineral notes and a nice creaminess. Noticeable sweetness. Medium finish. Yes, it is past its prime, but still drinks nicely. 90-91 (1931 views)
Tasted by Crom06032 on 1/26/2023 & rated 85 points: Faded evervesense but still holding its shape well. Hints of nuts with a toasty overtone. Stone fruit still evident. A fine wine no matter the age. (1923 views)
Tasted by Denny the Drinker on 1/23/2023 & rated 97 points: While it has been a while since I have had 1990, so I can not give a flavor profile or a nose, I can tell you my wife and I adored this champagne so much, we bought a case of it when the vintage was released, and drank all of it within 5 years. We have never found another champagne or sparkling wine that we have liked better than 1990 Dom Perignon! (1969 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
