Tasted by kr522 on 11/5/2023 & rated 91 points: Have had this a couple times and it’s never done it for me. A bit simplistic though fruity, with a short finish. Tannins not fully resolved (1815 views)
Tasted by Warren23 on 10/5/2023: Very good. Dinner party with Tim and Tina. (1711 views)
Tasted by Roentgen Ray on 9/21/2023 & rated 93 points: Medium garnet color.
Cork was in great condition.
Moderately aromatic.
Marachino cherry, black raspberry pie, and allspice.
Soft tannins and acidity.
Drinking well today. (1696 views)
Tasted by Old Claret on 7/15/2023 & rated 95 points: lovely! (2088 views)
Tasted by DoubleD1969 on 5/21/2023: See my Feb 2023 note. Simply delicious. PnP. (2185 views)
Tasted by Musinus on 3/28/2023 & rated 93 points: Garnet-purple color to rim. Deep, brooding nose of black cherry, walnut, violets, and a hint of sweet tobacco. Alluring. Lovely balance with a refreshing touch of sweetness embracing cherry, blackberry and plum. Youthful, with a medium finish with a wee bit of bitterness that vanishes with food. A delicious wine at a nice point in its evolution. (1771 views)
Tasted by fizz on 3/22/2023: Holding a deep garnet core of colour.
Perfumed, with florals and red and black fruits. The medium bodied palate is balanced and detailed, with finesse that carries through to the long finish. It’s looking good at this moment, but no rush. The structure and fruit is there for continued cellaring. (1424 views)
Tasted by DoubleD1969 on 2/3/2023: Cork came out in one piece. I’ve had this bottle since release. Very aromatic with initial notes of rose petals and raspberry tart than darker tones - wet earth and black cherries - over the course of the evening. Medium- to full bodied. Sweet red fruit with lively acidity that complemented the rich butternut squash risotto. Terrific bottle. (1693 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 6/3/2022: GGs vs. 1er Cru Burgs (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Cloudy dull ruby with paler rim; expressive nose, wilted floral, spicy, soy, age, mushroom, tomato, exotic, balsamic; at the beginning of the optimal drinking window; really good. (501 views)
Tasted by Milos on 4/26/2022 & rated 92 points: No notes taken. The wine was enjoyable and improved over time. Suggest another 3 to 5 years to reach its potential. (2935 views)
Tasted by Sperls on 4/12/2022 & rated 94 points: Alas, my last of 2 bottles. Pretty amazing wine that still has years ahead of it. Fantastic burgundy nose of cherry, strawberry and musk, mouthful of cherry and some darker fruits, hint of spice, tannins are resolved but silky mouthfeel and great finish. Wow.. (2508 views)
Tasted by kevin h on 2/13/2022 & rated 92 points: Classy, brooding wine. Almost Chambertin in style with loads of liquorice. Red and black fruits. Dense and still sits a little heavy in the glass, needs more time. A little tannin showing but expressive enough to drink well now. Will be special in 5-10 years time. (2833 views)
Tasted by SonOfBarolo on 11/20/2021 flawed bottle: Very earthy but my bottle may have been slightly flawed. After a lot of decanting I was able to appreciate the notes underneath, probably a 92 point wine for me if not flawed. (3033 views)
Tasted by Tavastgatan on 4/24/2021 & rated 93 points: Yeah, this is as god as a red wine form Beaune gets! (4007 views)
Tasted by carl.cornaglia@gmai.com on 3/14/2021: corked (3204 views)
Tasted by kevin h on 3/9/2021 & rated 92 points: First from a six pack take out of store last year. Showing a little amber. Classic Beaune nose with earth, tobacco and red fruits. Mellow red fruits, redcurrant, meaty, touch of mint and more damp, earth. The tannins are light at first but firm up with decanter time suggesting this needs a bit more time yet. Try again in 3 years. (3254 views)
Tasted by DougLee on 2/26/2021 & rated 93 points: Decanted for one hour. Medium ruby color. Nose of hawthorn, pine forest, airy violets, black cherry, raspberry, briar. Deeply centered layers of primary Bing cherry, black raspberry, anise, iron particles, and brambles on the palate. Fine grained tannin and bright acidity. Long finish of rich berry fruit cut with iron and rocky soil. A complete wine sampled early in its adolescence. (2931 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 2/3/2021 & rated 95 points: A Little Burg Study Session: Medium red color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 3.5 hours. This was a stunner tonight - not surprising in the least, but stunning nonetheless. Killer nose - showing a constantly changing melanges of scents. Deeply perfumed, gorgeous deep red fruits, and this is so meaty - it smells like the beef stick I just had before it - then there's the savory wild sauvage character, fine ground tobacco, dried roses, deft wood spice all that beg you to just keep wafting it in. But the palate truly shines too. This is silky, deep and layered, deep cherry, ripe raspberry and there's a streak of black current too; great damp eartheness, pencil, truffle and stunning length. My word, this was excellent years ago and it is markedly better now - clearly of Grand Cru class and stature. 94+ to 95pts. (3381 views)
Tasted by robertgf on 2/3/2021 & rated 94 points: Zoom Bourgogne tasting... Beautiful wine. Nose: earthy, meaty ?, very floral. Palate is medium bodied, deep in red fruit.Splediid as PNP but just hangs together, or improves after 4 hrs.No hurry to drink as plenty of life is promised. (2080 views)
Tasted by Arcturus on 12/28/2020 & rated 94 points: 94. Decanted 3 hours. Mineral, iron and a touch of red raspberry on the nose. Palate, high energy, sweet core of red fruit with a layered, lingering, smooth finish. Seems like it is just getting started. Delicious- Drink or hold. (2198 views)
Tasted by Pinot_Geek on 12/28/2020: "Old wine nose" of leather/tomato, with similar palate plus tart red plum fruit. Interesting and good, but not my style, personally. It may be I am just not made for older Burgs. (2150 views)
Tasted by Teaky on 12/25/2020: Decanted and drank for ~3 hours though it was hard to put my glass down. This was excellent, has nice red fruited nose that evolved into strawberry, raspberry and red cherry and was a bit floral. Flavors were similar with a nice crisp strawberry flavor, nice acidity only mildly tannic, long finish, this was excellent and paired well with soft ripened cows milk cheese. (1880 views)
Tasted by schway on 12/18/2020 & rated 93 points: Singing and (1766 views)
Tasted by alabunka on 11/27/2020 & rated 95 points: light to medium body - soft and elegant - we all loved it and it was a perfect pairing for the turkey and all its trimmings....this burgundy complimented the festive presentation on the table...it did not compete for attention...it made the Thanksgiving celebration complete without overwhelming it.... we just purchased the 2018...and will wait ...for the next appropriate occasion... but will give it an 10 to 15 year wait....just like its predecessor... (2119 views)
Tasted by Claret & CdP Gang on 9/11/2020 & rated 93 points: Could still stand up after the 08 Pontet & 16 Guigal Cdr, cherries, ripe but balanced, really blossomed in the glass over 1.5 hours, very good nose, savoury nuances, in its drinking window, absolutely delicious (2534 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
