| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.6 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 134 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by rwpalmer on 12/27/2023 & rated 89 points: Pale-mid gold. Expansive nose of lychee, quince and baked apples. Lovely weight and hint of sweetness on the palate. Gourmand but enough of a good thing, so probably time to drink up. (686 views) | | Tasted by BobMcK on 12/9/2023: Deep gold in colour. Honeyes, almost botyrised nose. Tropical fruit, mango and peach, demi sec. Worked astonishly well with cod in madera suace. (630 views) | | Tasted by AudunG on 1/28/2023 & rated 88 points: Typical Chenin Blanc on the nose, with notes of honey. Rich, but a bit bland, and not as good as earlier bottles. (1520 views) | | Tasted by AudunG on 12/3/2022 & rated 91 points: Rich Chenin Blanc aromas with honey and sea shore. Rich and quite dry on the palate, still with the Clos de Bourg elegance. (1427 views) | | Tasted by MattHo on 3/14/2022 & rated 92 points: Fresh as a daisy, very spirited. Tempting aromas of apples, pears, quince. Not too sweet, fair acidity - good balance and a great food wine.
No rush to drink this, still very young - settling into teenage years nicely but not yet fully mature by any means! (2088 views) | | Tasted by AudunG on 2/4/2022 & rated 91 points: Citrus, honey, nuts and minerals on the nose. Feels dry on the nose, which it did not some years ago. Light weighted, subtle and elegant, and typical Bourg. (2048 views) | | Tasted by jreynolds3 on 12/18/2021 & rated 93 points: Drinking very nicely. Paired well with fettuccini alfredo. (2124 views) | | Tasted by cephomer on 10/28/2021 & rated 93 points: Had with dessert at Panetiere last nite at our farewell dinner. Fascinating wine. We just had a Huet 2019 sec version a few nites earlier so this was an interesting comparison. Nose is very fresh, with some citrus and honey notes. Very clean, youthful and fresh on the palate, with plenty of white fruit, definitive minerality and notes of nuttiness, and crisp acidity. The subtle touch of sweetness, in combination with the other elements described, I found to be very interesting and made for a very enjoyable tasting experience--somewhat reminiscent of a riesling. Chenin blanc very often impresses me and this wine did not disappoint. (2125 views) | | Tasted by ssouth on 10/7/2021 & rated 94 points: Lemon Chicken with Green Harissa. From a Marcus Samuelson cookbook called Red Rooster. We skipped the eggplant and used premade harissa
2005 Domaine SA Huet Clos du Bourg Vouvray Demi-Sec. alc 12% Clear moderate pale yellow. Intense slightly sweet lemon curd with a brisk/crisp palate attack. Hint of nuttiness Very much alive
Excellent with the lemon sauce and harissa chicken (1936 views) | | Tasted by glou.sf on 9/28/2021 flawed bottle: This tasted a bit oxidized and nothing like the last bottle we’ve had :( (1804 views) | | Tasted by GAET on 8/25/2021 & rated 93 points: Sucre résiduel : 17.6 g, acidité 4.3 g et 13.5°
J'adore Excellent (1744 views) | | Tasted by Rieslingfan on 9/20/2020: I am definitely a Chenin Blanc skeptic. I have had a few that amazed, but they were usually 50 year old versions. After the disaster that was 2002 Huet premox, I was not willing to take the chance on investing money in potential time bombs. Thankfully this 2005 did not suffer the fate of its 2002 brethren, and was in fact quite youthful and fresh. It had started to develop some interesting layers of complexity, and showed some aromatic/flavor nuances I was not expecting, and in fact could not even really pin down. As a drinker of German Riesling I was not at all put off by the demi-sec level of sweetness, and it actually worked very well alongside the black bean & chipotle soup I served for dinner. Left a glass or so to check on tonight. If this bottle was any indication there could be years and years of profitable development, but I don't have any more to validate that premise. (2746 views) | | Tasted by rwpalmer on 5/28/2020 & rated 91 points: This a perfect, and perfectly mature, bottle of this wine. Honey and nuts. Any sugar now scarcely detectable. Quite weighty and concentrated. Acidity actually slightly on the low side. (2024 views) | | Tasted by drwine2001 on 5/12/2020 flawed bottle: Sound color. Honey and a fistful of TCA. (2519 views) | | Tasted by drwine2001 on 2/18/2020 flawed bottle: Corked. Undignified for my last bottle of this terrific wine to go out this way. Oh well. (2666 views) | | Tasted by winot on 11/23/2019 & rated 93 points: Medium to medium deep gold, citrus butter and lanolin nose, broad and integrated - palate same, with a suggestion of sweetness that never fully takes hold before the minerality arrives and whisks it off to a dry finish - as always, everything in balance, a cerebral treat, a window to time and terroir, with a long and satisfying finish. So good. (2389 views) | | Tasted by Keith Levenberg on 7/17/2019: Fruit profile is still youthful, flavors and color are yellow-toned so no premox here thankfully. It's round and soft on account of a sweetness that's honestly beyond the parameters that I can deal with as a wine to drink with dinner (and not enough acid to enliven) - better to serve this with a cheese course or something. (4900 views) | | Tasted by GAET on 5/10/2019 & rated 93 points: Sucre résiduel : 17.6 g, acidité 4.3 g et 13.5°
J'adore Excelllent (2238 views) | | Tasted by redknife on 4/18/2019 & rated 92 points: Took to Phils bistro with Felipe and Mike It’s been months but my recollection is that this wine is always good. Paired well with escargot (1900 views) | | Tasted by Mr T on 12/9/2018: Maybe just not a good night for me, but this came off as a bit flabby to me with honey flavors but not enough cut or acid....some left corked in fridge...I will revisit (2523 views) | | Tasted by AudunG on 12/1/2018 & rated 90 points: Typical Chenin Blanc on the nose, with waxy citrus and honey. Full bodied for a Bourg. Some sweetness, which is balanced by a very good acidity. (2119 views) | | Tasted by drwine2001 on 8/28/2018: Welcome Back, Michelle! (San Francisco): Medium yellow. Very honeyed. Excellent Chenin texture, relatively dry, outstanding acidity for the year. After a chemically flawed bottle earlier this year, this showed terrific purity and youthfulness, the sort of bottle that could easily see its 25th year in good shape. Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about two hours.
Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of honeysuckle, lychee and lemon curd. Flavors of lemon curd, lime, lychee and a drop of honey. Bright acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold. (2714 views) | | Tasted by cephomer on 6/27/2018 & rated 91 points: Drank last nite vs the 05 Moellieux version (which was far more enjoyable). Pale amber color, nose of honey and perhaps orange marmalade. Off dry, medium bodied, some orange, some quince, a bit on the nutty side. Nice wine (2830 views) | | Tasted by rmalloy on 6/15/2018 & rated 93 points: Great wine. Very smooth and seamless. I loved the mature note of what my fiancée called black Sharpie or overripe banana. Something similar to petrol in Riesling. It gave this wine a sense of nobleness. (2752 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
