Tasted by Rossodio on 8/15/2009 & rated 84 points: California Wines (Ross's Condo, New Orleans): This bottle was put in the tasting to act as a contrast to the unoaked Napa chard presented at the same event. This chardonnay is the typical older school Napa Valley chardonnay, with toasty, spicy, and vanilla laden oak notes on the nose which predicted the round, in your face, oaky palate which did carry with it a wonderful (though upstaged) bit of green apple and citrus. The finish was off balance, oaky, and a tad hot. I see why Caliphiles would love this wine, but it's just not me. (3158 views)
Tasted by scott davis on 8/2/2009 & rated 89 points: Full, darkening golden color. Subtle lemon-lime, citrus, and vanilla scents pick up honey, lemon oil, fresh herbs, and butter on the palate. Big in body and mouth feel, gaining richness on the finish. (2691 views)
Tasted by DB Lawton on 6/13/2009 & rated 91 points: Very nice and round chardonnay displaying pear and some slightly tart notes, with buttery finish (2723 views)
Tasted by vinole on 11/10/2007 & rated 90 points: Crown Fall 07 Upscale Tasting (Boca Raton, FL): Controlled use of oak in a nicely balanced package with good fruit and medium body. (5243 views)
Tasted by snipes on 5/24/2007 & rated 86 points: Beautiful golden color with an initial nose of melon and possible graham cracker. There is a slight tartness in the mouth accompanies the hint of oak. A nice wine. I scored this one slightly lower than my previous bottle. (3325 views)
Tasted by snipes on 1/7/2007 & rated 88 points: Lots of pear flavors. Nice. (1975 views)
Tasted by Colima74 on 11/1/2006 & rated 89 points: Big mouthfeel, little oily, good fruit, touch of oak but very well integrated. We finished the whole bottle in one sitting, which is a good thing...4.0 (1890 views)

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
