Community Tasting Notes (average 92.1 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 616 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by stanqwash on 1/14/2024 & rated 95 points: Classic Dom notes but with a yougurty tang. Possibly a flaw but really enhanced the experience for me. Overall a much more unique Dom than I’m used to. Plenty of fizz and no signs of decline. (1477 views)
Tasted by Goldstone on 12/31/2023 & rated 94 points: Drank at friends as the clock struck Midnight and the 12-minute fireworks display began over Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour. Almost identical notes as the bottle we took to share with friends in Seattle over Christmas. Gorgeous mid-range bright jewelled gold colour. Brief mousse followed by persistent streams of micro-bubbles. Nose is still very primary… brioche, lemon skins, crushed limes. Palate is super-fresh, very primary, dilute by any DP standard but still a lovely indulgence. Has a lovely final resonance and reverberance at the back of the head on the finish. Happy New Year! (1490 views)
Tasted by Irish_Wine on 12/31/2023 & rated 94 points: Pure gold. Rich and developed. Tarte tatin and honeyed almonds. Very fine mousse. Great persistence. In a lovely spot to drink now. (1437 views)
Tasted by Goldstone on 12/27/2023 & rated 94 points: Gorgeous mid-range bright jewelled gold colour. Brief mousse followed by persistent streams of micro-bubbles. Nose is still very primary… brioche, lemon skins, crushed limes. Palate is super-fresh, very primary, dilute by any DP standard but still lovely over Christmas holiday eggs Benedict late breakfast. Has a lovely back end resonance and reverberance in the back of the head on the long finish. A nice way to say thank you to our friends who hosted us over a chilled Christmas in Seattle along with Angela cooking the Eggs Bebedict for them. (1427 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 12/20/2023 & rated 93 points: Crisp, tasty, darker color, enjoyable. Last btl (1674 views)
Tasted by dougstewartfcca on 12/14/2023 & rated 95 points: One of the best champagnes I've had; wine is at its peak, but certainly has a few more years. Fine bubbles, apple and pear in the nose; delicate on the palate with a long finish. Highly recommended (951 views)
Tasted by wicozani on 10/13/2023 & rated 94 points: From magnum. Half was decanted 45 minutes before pairing with a mixed cheese and charcuterie board. A medium+ yellow in the Riedel Vinum XL pinot noir glass with flashes of gold. Served a bit too cold, but still striking toasted brioche and nuttiness on the nose, with soft meyer lemon and heaps of slate. Quite structured straight from the bottle, with still very good acidity. The shocker was visiting the decanted portion. Much more obvious nose, this time with a striking note of freshly minced ginger, with all the other notes amped up. Everyone around the table noted these exquisite changes. Beautiful performance on the celebratory occasion. The fourth or fifth time we've had this vintage, and it bested all those previously poured from 750ml bottles. One magnum remaining - when should we open it? (1632 views)
Tasted by Cailles on 7/22/2023 & rated 94 points: Tasted double blind. This DP is in its prime, with a tertiary complexity that compensates for the lack of depth the vintage offered. At its best, after some time in the glass, it scored 95 points. While the wine still has a nice freshness, the bubbles are slowly disappearing. So I don't think it can improve for much more than another 5 years.

TN: Intriguing nose with caramel and burnt sugar notes, citrus freshness and some salty notes. Medium+ expressive and intense. The palate is beautiful with some red fruit notes and even more salty minerality along with the caramel and burnt sugar notes. Not super complex but very enjoyable with very fine, slightly fading bubbles but a good acid backbone to keep it fresh, the texture lacks a bit of softness and the wine remains a bit more angular than I like. It doesn't have the oomph of the best years, but it's well balanced and at its peak.

Decanting: Good from the start, no extensive decanting needed. However, the best sips were the last ones towards the end of the evening. (2888 views)
Tasted by sirpat00 on 7/15/2023 & rated 94 points: Burned sugar, salted caramel and nice minerality. Fruit profile includes pear and raisin-like dark grapes. At the same time lightly built but with good tension and fine perlage. This felt nicely mature without really showing any nutty oxidation notes. This reminded me somewhat of a more mature 2009, more limited in terms of intensity and complexity, but still well made and offering plenty of drinking pleasure. (2253 views)
Tasted by JWS84 on 6/15/2023: This was stunning and seemed to be at full maturity. I assume it still has some years left but I don’t know that there’s reason to wait. (1900 views)
Tasted by AlanM68 on 12/31/2022 & rated 93 points: Last of the bottles, and I’m sad to see them go. This is in beautiful shape - fine bubbles, lightly stewed apples on the nose and the palate and very good length. Opened and decanted and then drank over the course of an hour or so. I have a few P2s left from the same year and look forward to those but, as with the standard wine, I don’t think there’s much of a rush. (3716 views)
Tasted by Goldstone on 12/31/2022 & rated 90 points: Drank over a leisurely afternoon in the run-up to New Year's Eve. Advanced yellow gold colour. Almost no mousse but still plenty of energetic pinprick bubbles. Appealing bready nose with some nice sea breeze salinity and ozone in the background and yellow meadow flowers. Palate is quite vinious and lacking verve or excitement although a nice saline element emerges with extended time in the glass. However, it carries a surprisingly powerful and long resonance inside the head on the finish. Similar to when last drank from the same case at Chinese New Year (Feb 2021) but a lot less fresh. Confirms my view from then that this is not a vintage to keep but a is good way of moderating drinking down the 2002 and 2008 too quickly. 90 at a stretch. (3598 views)
Tasted by vintage_whine on 12/2/2022: Fully nutty bready tones, bubbles still quite exuberant, fruit verging to yellow and a bit bruised, which I mean is lovely not faulty. The acid is a bit low which is the only reason to drink it sooner than later, but otherwise it has the concentration and intensity of flavor to go for many more years (3344 views)
Tasted by weezie on 11/25/2022 & rated 91 points: Nice but frankly disappointing. Corked was “pegged” and wine lacked zip. Bubbles were fine and overall wine was balanced and pleasant. But definitely lacked any “wow” factor. (2944 views)
Tasted by Hanibal on 11/12/2022 & rated 93 points: In a sweet spot here. The bubbles are fine and a slight oxidizing aromas showing up. The wine is complete...memorable. (3584 views)
Tasted by StiGGe on 11/12/2022 & rated 86 points: Light white and green color of the body. Much light nature tastes, light honey, caramel, and white flowers.

The wine lacks complexity and its body its not to good. No dept in its body and very waterish. This might be the least good Dom Perignon of the all the different vintages of 2000s.

Very young wine, should be stored for at least 10-15 years more! I think this vintage will grow and mature very good in the future. (3022 views)
Tasted by swyang on 9/18/2022: A splendid champagne at its peak. Dom Perignon at 22 is about as refined and gorgeous as one could dream of a champagne. Supremely light and refined bubbles, aromas of mature fruits, nuts, honey, flowers and toasted bread in the time frame which shows its age and how beautifully it has taken the years into its body of finest bubbles. Exceptional and certainly memorable. (2757 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 7/17/2022 & rated 93 points: From Jeroboam. This showed beautifully aged with delicate yet robust palate with fine acid, floral and nutty notes, joyous bubbles. What a treat. (3164 views)
Tasted by Rick & Ilsa on 7/16/2022 & rated 93 points: Birthday bottle with friends. Smooth, fresh, crisp still, with apple, citrus, brioche and salinity. Medium bodied with enough acidity to remain fresh, this is starting to show it's age, and that's not a bad thing. Showing a bit of a smoky, tertiary layer that doesn't usually show up in the bigger vintages. Overall a good bottle, good friends, and a good time. (2857 views)
Tasted by srshane on 7/14/2022 & rated 92 points: Possibly past prime. Still delicious. Drink up. (2776 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 6/29/2022: nose- rich, honey, hazlenut
mouth - also honey, seems right in its drinking window. It was commented that the vast majority of Dom gets drunk before being ready. Here we have mature while not being tired. A 'happy' wine per S. (2994 views)
Tasted by chuckos77 on 12/19/2021 & rated 93 points: Light pale color, perfect amount of carbonation, delicate. Paired well with a lobster bisque. (3806 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 12/17/2021 & rated 90 points: Holiday Champagne Gala (Park Ridge Country Club): In Dom Pérignon flight. Very fun and balanced with good weight, just on the simple side amongst the Dom Pérignon in this flight. Time to drink up. P2 tasted next was really shining tonight. (4590 views)
Tasted by SimonPh on 12/14/2021 & rated 94 points: Wonderful (3309 views)
Tasted by E94flu on 12/5/2021 & rated 91 points: Still had bubbles and freshness at opening. Apples at the nose and the longer (and warmer) it was open the broader pallet. Rusted, nuts, caramelized sugar, and a very well rounded experience (3594 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
