Community Tasting Notes (average 94 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 376 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by acyso on 4/27/2024 & rated 95 points: SangioFest, Volume III "It's my favourite spot" (Chicago, IL): Mature, and readily drinkable and approachable Krug. For my palate, this is in a really sweet spot, where there's just enough maturity to render this wine far more expressive. Given that this was before the Cavil transition, there's more of an outright opulence here that modern Krug doesn't quite have. Still plenty of white fruit here, but I love the intense, chewy mineral profile that this has. (276 views)
Tasted by burg_gram_Jason on 4/27/2024 & rated 95 points: Out of magnum, consistently smashing showing, out of 750, about 50% hit rate. Beware of buying a 750 off list - a bottle i had was not flawed enough to send back but hollow enough to give displeasure. (126 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 4/20/2024 & rated 94 points: 10 years after Riesling tasting - 2014 (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein): Glass: Gabriel Universal
Not as fresh and racy as my last bottle, but nevertheless a beautiful Krug! Nose with fine brioche and caramel, deep and dense. On the palate classic fine and long mousseux, nice tension, classic elegance, long! Danke Robert!!! (377 views)
Tasted by drjb on 4/7/2024 & rated 96 points: At Home Dinner. This was a deliciously mature wine with a developed straw colour and a fresh complex nose of white peach, Nashi pear, white cherries, wild strawberries, honey and nougat. The palate is quite rich with fruit and nougat flavours leading into a developed line of caramel and honeyed cashew flavours. There was still plenty of grip and minerality providing great length to this beautiful Champagne. (544 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 1/19/2024 & rated 94 points: not blind
Great to drink now. Some exotic fruits. Not for the long aging. Some roasted aromas. Less acidity than usually. 94 (1414 views)
Tasted by BooBooBret on 1/1/2024 & rated 100 points: Has a few more years at least. Great now, but could unfold a little more (938 views)
Tasted by The Vines That Bind on 12/31/2023 & rated 94 points: [Magnum] Brilliant. Superior to a magnum of 2002 a week ago. Completely fresh and bright, wonderful toast. Complete, harmonious, open knit. Delicious, crunchy orchard fruit and citrus spritz. (1132 views)
Tasted by enoconsultant on 12/29/2023: Third bottle from a case. Conistent notes. Good rather than great. While it dispalys the signature Krug richness, it lacks the elegance one expects from vintage Krug, perhaps becasue 2000 was such a hot year. (1011 views)
Tasted by godx on 12/15/2023 & rated 94 points: This was brilliant and showing extremely well. Classic Krug notes, biscuits and nutty nose with fresh apple and citrus on the palate. Doesn’t have the structure and firmness of the 95/96/98 etc, but is elegant, classy and rich all at once. Well balanced and in a great spot for drinking right now. (1111 views)
Tasted by Zunga on 12/8/2023 & rated 91 points: I think I was expecting more, but certainly liked it. Maybe it was the lack of freshness that hit me. Lemon and apple on the palate with an effervescence that disappeared quickly. (814 views)
Tasted by RobinTeo on 11/3/2023 & rated 95 points: Pardon the brevity, I don't drink enough champagne!

Single blind but bottles pulled at random.

Apple soda, grapefruit, popcorn and sudachi. Lush and ripe on the palate with a rounded mouthfeel. I do not drink champagne often enough but I know this tasted excellent! (217 views)
Tasted by etyc on 11/3/2023: Krug-vertical (blinded) session. This was served (2nd-wine) in the 2nd-flight (of 3) amongst the '02 & '88 (Collection). Compared to the 1st-flight, these 3 wines had much more uniformity across. However, amongst the 3, this felt that it came from a riper vintage, with some "roundness" (plushness) texturally. Ripe apples, lemons, chalk with just enough freshness to carry the finish through. Had thought this was the '03... (1184 views)
Tasted by palfr2 on 11/3/2023: Liz's B-Day Dinner at Singapore Swimming Club - Krug Vintage Vertical (Singapore Swimming Club): Krug Vintage vertical spanning Collection 1988/1996/1998/2000/2002/2003/2004/2006. Blind tasting. Both this and the 2002 were overshadowed by following the first flight which feature wines having aged and outgrown their shell to display great singularity. The 2000 is very fine drink not showing outright youthful but rather discreet and therefore warranting a few more years of aging (1052 views)
Tasted by dkwins on 10/25/2023 & rated 96 points: Better than ever; great classic Krug, with a nice caramel note on the pleasing finish. (853 views)
Tasted by PJT on 10/14/2023 & rated 95 points: This wine was singing. Great fruit, acidity and some yeast on the finish. A delicious wine with many years ahead of it. (1032 views)
Tasted by johhenrik on 6/24/2023 & rated 98 points: Otroligt bra. Hade man druckit den blind hade man inte sagt att den var 20+ år. Fortfarande en hög syra. EN del stenfrukter och brioche. Grymt bra var den. (1859 views)
Tasted by pointsnfigures on 5/29/2023: Earthy. Gen and Tom's wedding (1729 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 5/19/2023 & rated 97 points: Commanderie de Bordeaux MN: First Growths at Demi (Demi, Mpls): Light gold color. Drank a glass from magnum over 45 minutes. This was amazing tonight, it just totally pops out of the glass and on the palate - wow!. Apple, apricot, saline, beeswax, with the palate showing more lemon, lemon peel, and pear; lovely and precise, stones and saline. Super bottle, getting a little mag bump too. Thanks Brad! 96+ to 97pts. (2037 views)
Tasted by BradE on 5/19/2023: From mag (x2). A beautiful Krug, and both mags were in perfect form. (1843 views)
Tasted by shifter on 4/21/2023 & rated 92 points: Atlanta Musigny & Chevy Dinner: Good fruit from the vintage, but this bottle was a bit tired and lacking energy. It was classic Krug richness. (2022 views)
Tasted by BradE on 4/21/2023: April 21: A vintage I’ve always liked. This bottle started nicely, showing a reserved sophistication, but quickly went south and didn’t deliver. Hopefully the bottle, as the vintage normally pleases. (1517 views)
Tasted by acyso on 4/6/2023 & rated 95 points: BYOK with Olivier Krug at Next (Chicago, IL): Another one of the vintages of this era that I neglected to backfill (I guess my Krug obsession didn't really start in earnest until around the 2004 or 2002 release). But at least this one should still be relatively obtainable. This is drinking very nicely right now; it's not as stern and structural as the 1995, but there's a very pleasant plushness to the fruit that helps buffer all those structural elements. Distinct note of pastry cream on the nose too. I don't think this has the stuffing to be a legendary Krug, but for getting a mix of freshness and maturity, this is the ticket right now. (2105 views)
Tasted by Shrewsram on 3/23/2023 & rated 94 points: Mid gold appearance. Tons of tiny bubbles apparent on pouring.

Distinctly toasty nose (toasted fresh bread), sort of cereals and grains too, super fresh with some neatly defined lemon citrus (comments of preserved lemon among the group), I kept getting an almost tangerine note… a roquefort canape brought out more toast in the wine.

Voluminous but weightless attack, powder-light, open and lacy. Lots of chalk, very clean cut and crisp, very fine and stony. Still plenty tense and young but it really dances. Tried to take our time to let it open up but it was hard to resist! (1332 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 3/16/2023 & rated 93 points: blind
It feels riper than the last time, less exotic fruits. We had later Cristal 2000. That was much fresher. Still good acidity but not that precise at the finish. Didn't detect as a Krug. 93 (1831 views)
Tasted by Francophile1 on 3/12/2023: March Madness Wine Tasting: Unblinded Intermezzo Flight - '00 vs. '02 Krug
The '00 is much more approachable, rich, mature, round and opulent
The '02 has higher acidity, spot on in every sense, and laser focused
Bottom line... drink the '00 now and hold the '02 and let it age. (1400 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
