Tasted by Doctor Vyd on 8/4/2021 & rated 88 points: Nice nose Smooth and strong finish of a Syrah Drink now (1067 views)
Tasted by Invest on 2/12/2021 & rated 94 points: Opened about 2h before consumption, may be even 2h decanting is helpful. Just 12,5% Alc., deep cherry red with violett reflexes, cloudy. A fine subtle buffered Syrah bouquet. On the palate soft mouthfeel, good balance, very subtle spicy aromas, subtle fruit of cherry and (sweet) raspberry, complex and multilayered, lots of hidden depth, cool and at the same time with a radiating warmth, fine and subtle good length at the finish.

Not a blockbuster but a quiet, elegant and even concentrated wine you have to listen to in order to experience its class. (1280 views)
(1281 views)
Tasted by THT on 11/6/2020 & rated 92 points: PNP, ouvert à l'arrache sans préparation.
(1348 views)
Tasted by Fausto_Coppi on 10/25/2019 & rated 90 points: Well balanced, slightly over mature, full bodied red with red fruit, vine leaf and green tomato flavours. This bottle infinitely better than last one I drank. (1583 views)
Tasted by Fausto_Coppi on 8/10/2019 & rated 84 points: Starting it's demise with evidence of VA, diminishing fruit and sharp finish. (982 views)
Tasted by Fausto_Coppi on 10/22/2018 & rated 85 points: Still quite fruity but showing obvious VA and needs drinking before it goes off. (1066 views)
Tasted by Fausto_Coppi on 6/28/2017 & rated 95 points: A stunning wine in all respects. Lovely bouquet of red fruit, herbs and sun dried tomatoes. The palate is fresh, vibrant with stacks of raspberry and red cherry fruit, vibrant acidity and fresh finish. Despite it near 20 year age this wine is elegant, fruity and extremely well balanced. Amazing!!! (1877 views)
Tasted by d'Artagnan on 3/25/2017: Nez oxydatif, plant de tomate, bouche acide et mince. Over the hill. (2144 views)
(2072 views)
Tasted by Shiaxonna on 9/13/2016 & rated 87 points: Dark red, dense and unclear color. Old with brown edge and sediments. Wonderful nose. Tertiary and developed with bonfire, dust and leather. Moss, forest floor and hints of mushroom. The palate is over the top. No tannins left. Mostly acidity from the fruit. Almost a bit simple, but has still got enough "oomph" to work nicely paired to braised lambs thigh.

Tasted by Fausto_Coppi on 4/1/2016 & rated 94 points: Cherry red with clear rim. Red cherry and green tomato bouquet. Palate is lively and fresh with lots of raspberry, red cherry and fresh damson flavours ending with a green, leafy finish. Unique flavour but well balanced and very drinkable. (2144 views)
Tasted by Hodby on 2/13/2016 & rated 87 points: Medium light-garnet-red. Garrigue and pepper beef jerky dominate the nose, with allspice, dried cherry. On arrival, low tannin and medium acidity. A touch of blood in the mouth (iron ?), polite and mellow - even thin - with the cherries and jerky again. Finishes very vividly aromatically, big garrigue and violets and meat heaving from the empty glass. Smells better than it drinks. Bottle #2 of two. (1910 views)
Tasted by Fausto_Coppi on 7/8/2015 & rated 96 points: Brick red colour with clear/orange rim. Bouquet exudes tobacco, cinnamon and mature fruit. The palate has a ripe, rich edge showing style, maturity and balance. Fruit flavours are predominantly red current, green tomato and black current leaf. This is a complex, mature and intriguing wine. (1732 views)
Tasted by Tuvan on 1/9/2015 & rated 93 points: Wonderful! (2034 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 12/3/2014: Dmitri night at Vecchia Roma. Nice nose, still plenty of fruit, but too much acid. Not egregiously but too much to want to drink it with so many great wines around. (1903 views)
Tasted by EMichels on 2/14/2014 & rated 92 points: Great meaty/fruity nose; Great interest; Medium iodine; Nice brightness; Pop and pour - falls off after 90 minutes (2156 views)
Tasted by Christion on 1/23/2013: This should have been drunk 3 or 4 years earlier. Still there are intense aromas of black pepper, black currant and tar on the nose. On the palate, the wine seems livelier on day one with a pointy acidity, but a hollow mid-palate (almost no fruit left) and dried-out and somewhat saggy tannins. On day two, the acidity appears to be even spikier and the remaining elements of the wine seem to be on the ropes. Too bad i left it in the cellar for too long! (2678 views)
Tasted by JOsgood on 1/18/2013: Great nose. Grapey on the palate. Very lively and tastes young. (2350 views)
Tasted by EMichels on 1/17/2013 & rated 90 points: Beautiful nose - slight funk on first pour but immediately dissipated and released wonderful fruit and floral with a swirl; Pickle juice on the palate; Fruit has receded but plenty of acid to keep it very lively (2135 views)
Tasted by Finare Vinare on 12/14/2011 & rated 89 points: Tasted blind. Expressive and typical nose, very northern rhône syrah, with smoked sausage, bayleaf, black pepper, beef stock and slightly cooked plummy fruit. Smooth taste with mellow tannins and marked acidity, bit like cranberries/lingonberries. Medium length. Fully mature, and a very enjoyable wine even if doesn't really live up to previous bottles. Better drink up before the fruit fades any more. (2918 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 9/19/2011: Decanted and aerated 1 hr. Served side-by-side with the '98 Cayron, this stood in the latter's shadow the entire time. There are still some enjoyable years left, but the best days are already behind it. 12,5% abv, a nice medium-bodied treat with a few last captivating efforts from what fruit remains. 12,5% abv, drink thru 2014, B (2402 views)
Tasted by rSyver on 3/19/2011 & rated 86 points: Dark red colour, brick rim. Spicy, pepper nose; well hung game together with a medicinal touch. Lacks some complexity on the palate, mostly in the direction of spices and a medicinal tone. OK fruit, lacks some acidity - however the balance is not far off. Nice long finish. Could easily misjudge this on age.

Consistent with previous note. And again, no rush on these - but why wait? (2274 views)
Tasted by rSyver on 12/3/2010 & rated 86 points: Deep red colour, hints of brick.

The nose reminds me how this was when being young, about 10 years ago. The nose hits you once you open the bottle; a medicinal tone, well hung meat, hints of oak and spices - mainly in the direction of pepper. The medicinal tones might be a touch too much, my opinion is that this smells very nice.

The taste mirrors the nose, with a clear picture of spices on the finish. Time has had some impact, however the structure is still present and performing. Nice fruit all the way, a finish with hints of pepper. Nice long finish, but not enormous in any way. Medium to full bodied.

A crozes as I like it, however a bit surprised over how time has handled the wine - not that much has changed over time. I guess one can argue that this is to be drunk young - or enjoyed as "old". No need to save the remaining bottles - but no immediate rush either. (2558 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

Northern Rhône

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.

### 2017 vintage ###
