Community Tasting Notes (average 93.2 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 185 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Lord of the Bottles on 4/19/2024 & rated 92 points: Small glass after many bottles. Not quite the complexity of the ‘70 Cockburn’s served alongside but your requisite chocolate, fig and stewed fruit notes. Very good. 91-92 (1043 views)
Tasted by Brent25 on 3/22/2024 & rated 93 points: Delicious and mouth filling; it packs a punch but acid and fruit make it too easy to drink; enjoyable but will get even better with a few more years; from 375ml; not blinded (1829 views)
Tasted by Frank Schneider on 12/27/2023 flawed bottle: Corked (2384 views)
Tasted by ipp on 12/13/2023 & rated 93 points: great balance. delicious (2460 views)
Tasted by rbfleming on 11/3/2023 & rated 94 points: What a delight! Rich but not syrupy. Perfect complement to chocolate souffle. What a lovely end to a lovely evening! (3087 views)
Tasted by jjct on 10/19/2023: Reticent, even after 24 hours. There is a slight mustiness on the nose; possibly slightly corked? (3008 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 9/23/2023 & rated 93 points: Master class "Wines from the Douro and beyond" with Luis Carlos Fernandes of Symington Estates (Hochschule Geisenheim, Germany): Wine 10. The first vintage of Graham's Vintage Port that was produced with mechanical treaders (robotic lagares). Complex aromatics. Good ripe red and black fruit, plum, herbal notes, some eucalyptus, spices, some liquorice, and black tea, with good acidity, round tannin, and superb length. Quite fresh. A great vintage for Graham's! (3073 views)
Tasted by Motz on 6/10/2023 & rated 95 points: Quinta do Bomfim, Pinhão: The most feminine and polished of the flight.

The perfume conveys an essence of balanced sweetness. Red and purple flowers and berries, coco powder, carob, baking spices, berry liqueur, potpourri, and black rock minerality. Probably the prettiest bouquet, if not the most intriguing.

Sensual! The wine graces the entire palate, with seductive textures and intriguing nuance. Quite velvety. The elegant back and finish do not deliver the same intensity and the Dow or the Vesuvio.

This bottle had fifteen or more years of evolution and life. Improvement seems possible. 95-96. (3706 views)
Tasted by Bordeaux_Jon on 3/18/2023 flawed bottle: From a half bottle, coravvined. Tried to do a mini-horizontal with Fonseca 2000 and both were corked. A fun evening for sure. What's up with corked Ports? The last three half bottles all had some degree of TCA. (3878 views)
Tasted by CMN on 3/18/2023 & rated 93 points: Figs and black fruits. Not overly sweet. No real heat; quite smooth on the palate. A nice way to end a meal. (3221 views)
Tasted by ChateauDutremble on 1/21/2023 & rated 95 points: A highlight of the night. (no formal notes taken) 375ml bottle purchased at Graham's Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia in 2014.
Stunningly smooth and rich and dark creamy ripe fruit. Not too sweet...just perfect...and long...wanting more! 95++ (3719 views)
Tasted by Shane B on 1/3/2023 & rated 96 points: Fabulous balance and restraint, lower sugar. Decanted and drank intermittently over 24 hours. Peaked around 8-12 hours but almost as delicious at PnP when there was more menthol heat. Cork was in perfect condition in spite of suboptimal cellar conditions over the 20 years since I purchased the 750ml bottle, occasionally reaching mid 70s F during summer months before I installed cooling. Poured it through a screen to remove the substantial tar-like sediment. Menthol, dark cherry, pomegranate, spicy Vietnamese cinnamon, mace, cocoa, vanilla toffee - and subtle dried mushroom hints as noted by another user. Probably early tertiary flavors due to accelerated aging in suboptimal cellaring. I was surprised at how different our tasting experience was compared to professional review notes that indicated more floral and fruit character. (3725 views)
Tasted by Kinell on 12/24/2022: Drack över tre kvällar. Första kvällen luftad i 12 h. Bra redan första kvällen men växte nog lite till dag två. Jämfört med förra årets Niepoort var denna mer balanserad och inte så eldig redan från start. Nöjd med att jag har ett par flaskor till som kan avnjutas de kommande åren. (2846 views)
Tasted by StefanVB on 11/22/2022: Prachtige begeleiding met donkere chocolade of fudge, maar kan ook alleen worden gedronken bij wijze van dessert. (2964 views)
Tasted by brigcampbell on 10/22/2022: Fairly dark with slight bricking. Bit of heat on the nose with woody notes and dried fig. Mouthcoating. Black fruit, fig jam. Nice. (3532 views)
Tasted by theportguy on 9/23/2022 & rated 94 points: 2022 Port Harvest Tour; 9/22/2022-10/2/2022 (Porto, Portugal): This wine has a purple-garnet hue and impresses with fresh crushed blackberries and floral notes on the nose. Still showcasing primary fruit on the palate, the wine exhibits super-structured and well-balanced tannins, making it a Vintage Port suited for the long haul. An outstanding wine. (1935 views)
Tasted by redhead6971 on 9/2/2022 & rated 96 points: Anton’s Wine Tasting Notes
Winery: Graham’s “Vintage Port”

Area/Appellation: oporto Portugal
Vintage: 2000. Price: $40/ 375 ml. Taken from my Anton’s Vintage Wine and Spirits personal inventory.
Color: burnt ruby. Legs: slow

Tasted by Gruffalius on 6/4/2022: Cork totally crumbled. Pretty light on its feet. Has lightened in color and transparency. Lovely maturing fruit. Great find at $50. (4235 views)
Tasted by Rieslingfan on 4/26/2022 flawed bottle: Corked! (4565 views)
Tasted by rexmerlot on 3/20/2022 & rated 91 points: Great wine. Unfortunately drank at end of night after many bottles. No notes possible. (4621 views)
Tasted by Jayarr on 3/20/2022 & rated 91 points: Still quite dark purple. Seemed well balanced and should have a long life. Quite a lot of dark fruit although it wasnt overly sweet. Not a lot of sediment either. (4004 views)
Tasted by SaltWine on 3/2/2022: Full fruit, some tannins. Spirits beginning to integrate. Still a few years to go if possible. (2851 views)
Tasted by Keith Cooper on 2/21/2022 & rated 93 points: Auriol Wines Portuguese wine dinner, Hartley Wintney, UK. Served from magnum in very generous quantity. Quite a rich style, full bodied. Charcoal and a hint of sweet sloes. At perfect maturity now, but would surely keep much longer if you can resist. Very enjoyable. (3998 views)

Graham Porto Vintage

In the earlier part of the 20th century, this wine was bottled with different labels. Within the same vintage and the same wine, it would be labeled "Vintage" and "Finest Reserve" depending on where it was released and who the distributing agent was.

For consistency's sake, we have opted to use only the "Vintage" name for this wine. That is what Graham has settled on going forward. Searching for "Graham's Finest Reserve" will lead to this entry.

Port Blend

Over a hundred varieties of grapes (castas) are sanctioned for port production, although only five (Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional) are widely cultivated and used.
