| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.2 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 191 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by klezman on 3/16/2024: 16% alcohol! This was in a pretty nice teenage phase. Tons of fruit, but getting the complexities I'd hope for in a wine approaching 15 years old. The alcohol was a bit distracting but not entirely over the top. (228 views) | | Tasted by rmalloy on 7/20/2021 & rated 93 points: Delicious. Peaches, chocolate covered raisins, black cherries, and gaminess. Great balance; love the acidity here. Drink now. (1724 views) | | Tasted by rmalloy on 6/21/2021 & rated 92 points: This is a little juicier and less heavy than most vintages of the Pesenti, though it is still packed with flavor. I taste peaches, prunes, game, and spices. This doesn’t strike me as the most age-worthy Pesenti, so I suggest drinking now. (1606 views) | | Tasted by penguin3546 on 12/10/2020 & rated 91 points: Opened // No decant // Waited 90 minutes // Wine was very balanced and gentle from start (light raspberry and vanilla) to the finish (mild pepper, roses and cherry // Sometimes, waiting is rewarded // A wonderful drinking wine // (1673 views) | | Tasted by whudock on 7/10/2019 & rated 92 points: still at the top of its game. Needs some air to present fully. Strong dark cherry fruit, some earth and a touch of leather complement the spice notes. Complex and well-balanced. (2056 views) | | Tasted by Ed B on 4/30/2019 & rated 92 points: PnP at a restaurant. No detailed notes. Smooth, mellow, with nice spice. Well received. (1978 views) | | Tasted by Rbird on 4/7/2019 & rated 90 points: Mellow but still drinking well over three nights (1287 views) | | Tasted by jsioris on 2/21/2019: Over the hill. Unbalanced. I know better than to age a Turley this long. (1428 views) | | Tasted by kreuter on 8/22/2018: Excellent (1124 views) | | Tasted by Bil on 2/14/2018 & rated 90 points: Fruit has faded some but still rich and delicious (1454 views) | | Tasted by PinotPaul on 11/23/2017 & rated 90 points: Very nice Zin. (1380 views) | | Tasted by tomlee on 11/16/2017 & rated 96 points: Crimson in color. 16% ABV. Stunning nose of brambly red fruits, wet stones and white pepper. Medium to full body with juicy acidity. Rich, lush and impeccably balanced. Cherry liqueur, raspberry compote, licorice and pepper on the palate. The finish is long and sweet. The best Zin I have had this year and also the best Zin I have had from Turley. Drink over the next 1-2 years. (1560 views) | | Tasted by Bil on 3/21/2017 & rated 91 points: A bit past its prime but still drinking well. Loads of fruit and glycerine (1917 views) | | Tasted by Dionysusx on 11/24/2016 & rated 95 points: Rustic and robust. Immensely complex, bursting with blackberry, currant, vanilla, cinnamon and sage. Been and crushed stone notes lead to a smooth but dry finish that lasts an eternity. (2026 views) | | Tasted by JOJ on 11/2/2016 & rated 88 points: Opens a bit overdone on the nose -- blackberry, smoke, roasted meat and black pepper. On the palate, raspberry and blackberry with a flinty mineral note. Better at cellar temperature. Showed heat and a roasted quality when warmed a bit. (2044 views) | | Tasted by wculpepper on 9/4/2016 & rated 93 points: Decanted for two hours; no sediment. Deep crimson color. Briery nose of blackberry and raspberry, along with cracked white pepper. Medium-to-full bodied, slightly jammy, mouth-coating red and black fruits on the palate with ample acids and tannins giving a great structure. A long and delightful finish carries on the complex blend of flavors. A good QPR at $36. Wish I had more. (1840 views) | | Tasted by guitarguy on 4/30/2016 & rated 90 points: A good wine, lightish for Turley with loads if cracked pepper, zinberry, molasses and a bit of a dry finish. Not cloying, light on its feet. (2111 views) | | Tasted by ravbik on 3/13/2016 & rated 91 points: Fruity ripe zin. Moderate acid balances the sweet red fruits . Still going strong (1938 views) | | Tasted by Salute on 12/27/2015 & rated 89 points: The wine has medium acidity. It smells like cranberry, blackberry, tobacco, tea, cherry and stoniness. The body is medium. The wine finishes medium. The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. The wine has bright texture. (1767 views) | | Tasted by Ridgerunner on 12/9/2015 & rated 93 points: Excellent zin (1760 views) | | Tasted by dlduchon on 9/9/2015 & rated 88 points: Pesenti to me seems like a more fruity style, and my taste has been leaning toward the leaner style, but I enjoyed this for what it is. Initially a touch of oak and then the Zin fruit pushed through. Perhaps better as an aperitif. (2011 views) | | Tasted by Winedog1 on 8/9/2015 & rated 96 points: Excellent. Sweet aged taste. Balanced. (1904 views) | | Tasted by Ex-Ray on 5/26/2015 & rated 96 points: The best zin I've had in the last several years! I've been consistently disappointed with Turley zins recently, too tannic and austere, not the upfront fruit they once had. But this was different. Very dark, completely opaque. Wonderful pronounced red and black raspberry aromas mixed with toasty oak, a bit of prunes, quite complex. The flavors are bright, sweet, very concentrated and mouth-coating, a bit hot but beautifully balanced. Again, flavors of raspberries and plums, just a hint of raisins and prunes. Very long aftertaste, just kept going. Perfectly ready, wouldn't age this any longer for fear of losing what it now has. Pop any remaining corks! Ric (2162 views) | | Tasted by czarnik on 5/10/2015 & rated 89 points: A little vegetal taste to start. Never really opened up . (1805 views) | | Tasted by ACR16719 on 4/22/2015 & rated 85 points: really just OK - acidic and very high alcohol (1535 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
| Turley Producer website2009 Turley Zinfandel Pesenti VineyardWinemaker: Ehren Jordan
Winemaker's Notes: These flavors and aromas can only come from the Pesenti Vineyard: flowers, pepper, mouthwatering raspberry, and mineral notes are all present. In the mouth, we find red fruit character and spice with a firm tannin backbone. This wine provides a great contrast to the vineyards in the North Coast - its structure is defined by acidity not tannin.Turley Zinfandel Pesenti Vineyard Discussion of Pesenti Vineyards, Paso Robles on Turley websiteZinfandel ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-ZinfandelUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
