Tasted by keepitreal on 3/25/2008 & rated 88 points: Delicious black fruit still showing through briar and earth. Hints of spice and vanilla. Easy drinking and great with food. (3244 views)
Tasted by caboychuck on 7/26/2007 & rated 92 points: Very dark deep purple in color. Nose is complex with black cherry being predominant with a talcom powder following. After a while some pencil lead or shavings shows up. Day 2 nose shows big black cherry with some vanallan maybe a little oak. Palate is just beautiful. Black cherry, pencil shaving. Lots of life for an 02. Day 2: little more open, still black cherry, some dark chocolate, silky mouthfeel. (3247 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 7/19/2007: My oldest Carlisle, and teary eyed, the last of my 2002s. The listed alcohol here of 15.9% feels a little understated, and if you get this wine to room temp, you can smell a bit of the heat. Thus, I put a little chill on it. The nose is all about florals, which is a cool note for Zin. There is also a creamy, talc note that seems to pop on the bouquet. Black cherry, black currant and a wine that sticks to my bones. Great texture and weight and for being 5 years old, shows no sign of lightening up. Great texture and full mouthfeel--it's why I buy my max order each and every time. Slamming good and this wine can go another 5 years, easy. Great stuff. (3360 views)
Tasted by Ekoostik on 1/22/2007 & rated 91 points: Very balanced right now. Good solid Zin at a great price. (3514 views)
Tasted by lpollack on 11/28/2006 & rated 92 points: Deep red color. Fragrant red fruit nose. Tastes of raspberries, cinnamon, pepper and other spices. Alcohol is well hidden. This wine is driinking beautifully. (3701 views)
Tasted by GlenD on 1/27/2006 & rated 91 points: Nice dark red fruit and spice flavors. Not huge, but had concentration that was balanced. Drink up. (2236 views)
Tasted by Slipknot on 10/16/2005 & rated 90 points: Very fruit forward with raspberry and black fruit flavors. Some spicy notes as well with a good finish. Alchohol is definitely masked by the fruit. (2272 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 7/1/2005 & rated 92 points: Opened w/ BBQ chicken w/o decanting. Deep purple color and sweet, fragrant nose. Tastes of very pure rasberry liqueur. All I could think was rasberry, rasberry. Slightly alcoholic, but drunk straight from the bottle mid meal when the other red ran out. I'm sure it would quickly dissipate w/ a little bit of air. As noted elsewhere, the purity of perfetly ripe fruit seems to cloak the alcohol. Delightful wine. Nothing heavy or ponderous. (2537 views)
Tasted by JP on 9/4/2004 & rated 90 points: Deep purple in color with some pink at the edges. Great zin aromas of raspberry jam, wild berries, woodshop, and plenty of brambley character. Sweet, ripe fruit dominates the attack, followed by raspberry liquoer, vanilla, and woodshop. The finish is quite lengthy with wild berry and vanilla notes. Besides all that, it's just plain delicious zin. (3303 views)
Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 5/14/2004 & rated 87 points: Tasted unblinded at the Vintage Wines, Ltd. wine bar. Bright disc. Opaque black robe with purple rim. Clean but somewhat muted nose of smokey black fruit. Full-bodied on the palate, with low acidity and big ripe tannins. The flavors mirror the nose and the finish is marred by a whiff of alcohol-induced heat. (1694 views)
Tasted by JP on 4/17/2004 & rated 90 points: This is the first of the Carlisle spring wines I cracked open. This was bottled in February and shipped earlier in the week, so I gave it a few hours in the decanter. After about 3.5 hours, it was really singing. Deep purple in color, this has a huge nose of strawberry jam, raspberry liquoer, vanilla, a bit of woodshop. On the palate, this is a monster zin, with tart strawberry jam flavors dominating. Despite almost 16% alcohol, this is very much in balance, albeit huge and fruit-driven in style. This basic offering from Carlisle suggests great things to come from the single vineyard and more high-end offerings. (3071 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
