Tasted by Charlie C on 3/11/2023 & rated 90 points: Dark cherry red at core, translucent as it moves to the rim. Bright cherry aromas. Soft fruit, black cherries, blackberries. Quite lovely. Fine tannins, great acidity and balance. Finishes long and spicy. gains weight with air. Lovely. Perhaps a bit on the downside but still a lot of years ahead of it. Drink next 4 to 5 years. (433 views)
Tasted by Charlie C on 8/9/2022 & rated 91 points: Bright red color. Violets, lavender, plums on the nose. Plush on the palate, red-fruited, raspberry, plums. Smooth tannins, beautiful acidity, fine balance. Finishes long, bright, rich with bramble fruits. Throwing a heavy sediment. Gorgeous Zin. Mike's appellation wines are a fantastic bargain and this one has held up beautifully. It did fade noticeably on the second day. Drink next 3 years. (795 views)
Tasted by brigcampbell on 4/4/2022: No much movement over the last seven or eight years. Holding up beautiful. There's a hit more on the saddle note but that could have been because of cork issue, had a leaker. My last bottle. (961 views)
Tasted by Ed B on 1/22/2022 & rated 91 points: PnP. No detailed notes. My previous note must have been a bad bottle. This one was very good. (810 views)
Tasted by tgkswine on 12/6/2021 & rated 91 points: Still very enjoyable Great QPR but think it has just peaked. Time to drink up. (922 views)
Tasted by SineQuaNon on 7/13/2021 & rated 91 points: Such a winner bottle! I hadn’t seen the last notes, I guess my luck was much better. Could be my rather cold Danish cellar? Or bottle variation. Either way, this is at peak drinking, but no signs of fading, so this particular bottle would have probably had at least five more good years of drinking ahead of it. Closer to 92 than 90. (1001 views)
Tasted by Ed B on 5/28/2021 & rated 86 points: PnP. No detailed notes. I drink a lot of Carlisle Zin (20-25/yr?) This is probably my least favorite. Gone bad? Thin, tart. I’ve got a few more, so we will see. (803 views)
Tasted by Senso-beak on 12/10/2020 & rated 85 points: Opened and enjoyed....somewhat simplistic and straightforward, but there are some zin qualities here. Solid, not spectacular. Needs more zin bramble and spice. Dark, full bodied....a little hot. Blacks, grapes, a little muted, a little ethanol. This is a good party zin, for mass consumption. Decent QPR. (875 views)
Tasted by VinoDiver on 4/22/2019 & rated 92 points: Nice expression of Zin. Well balanced, great fruit, good finish. Give about 30 min of air to open up. (1516 views)
Tasted by Castle Peak on 1/31/2019 & rated 90 points: Nice wed night pizza sipper. (1436 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 1/28/2019 & rated 91 points: Regret. I wish I had waited to open this one. It is so promising. But alas we have no more. If you are craving a youthful Zin that drinks well. Go now. If you can hold please do. I wish you no regrets (1469 views)
Tasted by David_T on 1/12/2019: I hung on to my last bottle longer than planned. Notes unchanged from 2015, drink now. (1473 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 12/1/2018: This wine was certainly drinkable but I am just not a fan of this cooler 2011 vintage. I know that many, including my wife, love this more austere wine. (1529 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 10/7/2018: Wierd bottle could not seem to open up. Just stayed tight. Drank over three nights and it pened slowly over the three nights. Unlike our previous bottle two weeks before that was amazing. No score given too odd (1235 views)
Tasted by Castle Peak on 10/5/2018 & rated 90 points: Solid offering from Carlisle. (1079 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 9/15/2018 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured. Really in a great spot. (1196 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 9/8/2017: Not resdy. Will check in next year (2013 views)
Tasted by Bob in NC on 5/21/2017 & rated 92 points: Awesome Zinfandel, nuff said. (2409 views)

Tasted by joet626 on 1/22/2017 & rated 90 points: Good. Smooth with lots of dark fruit flavor. Liked it! (2400 views)
Tasted by dougie on 12/25/2016 & rated 90 points: Aging beautifully! (1766 views)
Tasted by pakabear on 11/3/2016 & rated 90 points: Really nice Zin as usual from Mike, extremely good QPR, medium to dark red fruits, pepper, spices and very good balance. (1910 views)
Tasted by The Wine Write on 8/29/2016 & rated 89 points: Popped and poured. Plenty of life left. Rich, spicy nose (enjoyed aromas more than taste). Good fruit. Somewhat thin in texture. Finish is a bit tart. Solid Zin, though, and a nice QPR. (2095 views)
Tasted by Bellissimo on 8/28/2016: Always such a strong QPR bottling I especially enjoyed the '11s that were a little cooler and less hot. Mix of red berries, pepper and some herbs. Medium length, rocking good mouthfeel. Held up over 2 days. (1975 views)

2011 Carlisle Zinfandel Sonoma County

From the winery:
2011 Sonoma County Zinfandel
To date, we have produced many wonderful Sonoma County Zinfandels. Each has represented incredible quality for the money. But in 2011, we have taken QPR to a whole new level. In fact, most wineries would be thrilled to have this as their top-end Zinfandel. What makes this particular vintage so good? Consider the vineyards that compose over 90% of this wine – Fanucchi (planted in 1906), Carlisle (planted in 1927), Rowe (planted in 1906), Rossi (planted in 1910), and Bedrock (planted in 1888). All of these vineyards are designates in their own right. With the exception of Rossi, all contain significant mixed blacks. If you’re a fan of high quality, old-vine Zinfandel at a bargain price, back the truck up. Serious folks, take advantage of my lack of sanity. No one should be selling a wine this good for so cheap.
Tasting Note: Medium-dark ruby-garnet. A classic “zin-berry” (raspberry, cherry) aroma is highlighted by notes of briary spice and black pepper. Smooth and full-bodied on entry, a wave of red fruits envelops the palate while refined tannins build through the finish. The texture and precision of this wine is simply amazing! Drink now. Drink next year. Drink all the way until 2018! No matter what you do, you can’t go wrong!

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
