Tasted by Anders Danielsen Lie on 3/12/2024 & rated 89 points: Fortsatt ekspressiv nese, men frukten mangler dybde både på lukt og smak. Trenger mat. (359 views)
Tasted by Anders Danielsen Lie on 2/4/2022 & rated 90 points: Meget pen flaske med tennis ekspressiv CS frukt, tobakk og edelt tre. Til å begynne med flott frukt, deretter litt grønn og stilkete snerp. Frukten er helt magisk, strukturen trenger mat (1299 views)
Tasted by engelwein on 5/20/2019 & rated 88 points: Schöner, typischer Bordeaux in Geruch und Geschmack im alten Stil. Wenig Tannin. Sicher noch gut bis 2022 (2081 views)
Tasted by camposartu on 8/15/2018 & rated 82 points: Was not impressed. I might have aged it way to much. Fruit had almost disappeared completely and all that was left was dry and unappealing wine. (2058 views)
Tasted by Sean Tay on 8/19/2017: The wine looks garnet colored. It smells like blackberry, blueberry, red currant, forest floor and toast. (463 views)
Tasted by mary k on 3/10/2014 & rated 88 points: Great with steak. (5392 views)
Tasted by Cbartel on 12/3/2011: - Garnet color with medium forming legs - Definitely old but not over the hill. Decanted for about an hour and then drank over a couple of nights. (6224 views)
Tasted by Keith Levenberg on 7/12/2010: Old-school claret. Starting to develop some mature flavors but the tannin is still thick and furry. Smooths out a little in the decanter, but not enough. At least another 5 years away from readiness. (7319 views)
Tasted by espesqpa@gmail.com on 8/3/2009 & rated 83 points: In its end stage of life. drink now (6039 views)
Tasted by ed-d on 5/22/2009 & rated 89 points: Getting brickish. Classic older Bordeaux nose of sandalwood, old leather, tobacco & the Graves element of earth & stone. Tart red currant fruit wrapped in a mineral cloak. A very metallic, tart finish. Nice, not great. (5742 views)
Tasted by doppioexpresso on 2/3/2009 & rated 82 points: not going to buy it again (3288 views)
Tasted by grobstein on 1/20/2008 & rated 88 points: on its last leg probably, but drank ok. earthy nose, light red fruit on the palate. drink up. (2759 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 10/24/2007 & rated 82 points: Seems a bit tired. Almost no fruit, firm tannins with earth notes. Boring. (2775 views)
Tasted by winefool on 10/8/2006 & rated 87 points: Decent Graves, opened up after an hour -medium body, light tannin (3128 views)
Tasted by DFC on 3/24/2005 & rated 88 points: Purchased on vacation at a wine shop in Paris in 1999. Served with quiche. Decanted for 45 minutes. Medium bodied and medium red, with very slight bricking at the edge. Fairly muted note initially with aromas of earthiness and perhaps mushroom...later, the nose opens and reveals tobacco. On the palate, red fruits, raspberries, and a nice tartness. Well balanced after 60-90 minutes in the decanter allowed it to relax from its initial tightness. Drinking quite nicely right now...seems to be hitting its peak and should stay there for 2-3 more years. Was a great match with food! (3974 views)
Tasted by PBaird on 6/19/2004 & rated 88 points: like the last bottle I had, drinking really well. I scored it a point higher, mostly for it's wonderfully aromatic and tobacco/red fruit tinged nose. Medium/dark red, still young looking, only slightest lightening at edge. Very aromatic, with sweet cherries, red fruits, tobacco, minerals Medium bodied, balanced, silky texture. It has sweet red fruits, rasberries, cherries, cassis, a little mid-palate dilution. Overall an elegant, balanced wine. Light tannins and decent persistence on the finish. (3372 views)
Tasted by PBaird on 3/13/2004 & rated 87 points: Medium/dark red, still young looking, only slightest lightening at edge. Very aromatic, with sweet cherries, red fruits, tobacco, minerals-- If it wasn't for the tobacco aromas, I would have guessed it was Pinot. Medium bodied, balanced, silky texture. It has sweet red fruits, rasberries, cherries, cassis, a little mid-palate dilution. Overall an elegant, balanced wine that is more akin to Burgundy than Bordeaux but enjoyable and interesting. Very light tannins, decent persistence on the tangy finish. (3401 views)

It is said that in the 18th century this wine was introduced to the Sultan of Constantinople’s palace because of its clarity and was called “mineral water from Carbonnieux”, thus defying the Islamic law.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
