| Community Tasting Notes (average 88.3 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 30 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 8/31/2014 & rated 87 points: Medium ruby color, a bit of bricking at the rims. Nose of sweet plum cake, roasted figs, caramel apple, mixed in with some underbrush, wet leaves, pipe tobacco and vanilla. Tart pomegranate and red currant fruit on the palate, with lots of wet leaves, moss and earth accents. Some pipe tobacco and campfire soot as well. Mocha-toast shows itself but doesn’t overwhelm. The fruit tastes a bit baked on the finish, dried out a bit as well. It came together well in the decanter, smoothed out and became more balance. Not the best aged Napa Cab, but good stuff and interesting. (3407 views) | | Tasted by ecola on 6/19/2011 & rated 90 points: Drinking well right now and can probably go another few years. Classic napa cab profile of dark cherry, currant, cedar and vanilla. Dry tannins with a long gripping finish. (4699 views) | | Tasted by JBD on 9/23/2010 & rated 89 points: I would not have believed this. I opened this on Tuesday evening as part of my campaign to drink up bottles well past their windows (2007). It was not good - really tight and on the sour side- I thought it was bad. For whatever reason, I poured another glass on Wednesday evening and found it very good - all of the sour notes were gone and what was left was very good. Drink up! (3774 views) | | Tasted by cpandmg on 6/29/2008 & rated 90 points: Surprisingly tight after all these years. Still a very good wine. (2784 views) | | Tasted by msebor on 12/12/2007 & rated 88 points: Dark purple color with just a hint of barely discernible brownish oxidization. Beautiful currant aromas on the nose. Cassis notes in the mouth, some herbs, nice oak. Tannins well integrated. Medium finish. Very good wine. (2802 views) | | Tasted by GlenD on 7/19/2006 & rated 91 points: Solid and tasty cab. Great fruit, tasty finish, low acid. (2695 views) | | Tasted by jdoakpark on 7/9/2006 & rated 86 points: Decent bottle of wine but lacks the full rounded flavors I expected to find. Nice beginning but lacks the finisc I like in a big Cab. Good but not great. (2811 views) | | Tasted by stevenp22 on 4/5/2006 & rated 91 points: Very good let - gets better after it has been open an hour or so (2980 views) | | Tasted by GlenD on 12/31/2005 & rated 91 points: Classic cassis and plum cabernet profile. Approachable, but not soft. Nice balance with a respectable tasty finish. (2912 views) | | Tasted by JDB4 on 12/28/2005 & rated 90 points: Deep garnet color. Excellent nose--hints of blackberry and chocolate. Fruity, with oak tones. Smooth full bodied wine...rests well on the palate. (1339 views) | | Tasted by GlenD on 12/12/2005 & rated 91 points: Seems to be hitting its stride now. Nice medium mouthfeel, sweet concentrated cassis, low acid, tasty finish that doesn't hurry away. Some sediment on the side of the bottle. (3039 views) | | Tasted by GlenD on 6/29/2005 & rated 90 points: Nice soft tannin and medium cab flavors. Dark red cherry and cassis. (3112 views) | | Tasted by mls on 4/12/2005 & rated 77 points: Subtle nose of pepper, cherry and spice. A little hot with decent tanins, could use more fruit. Long finish. Not much character, a decent but not exceptional cab. Perhaps we could have waited another year or so to open. (3169 views) | | Tasted by GlenD on 3/10/2005 & rated 90 points: Tasty and enjoyable. Sweet tanin and cassis. (3072 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonReserve The Wine News | Wine Country This Week | Wine Lover's PageUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
