Tasted by Roentgen Ray on 5/23/2023 & rated 89 points: Perfect cork.
Dark brick red color.
Aromatics are somewhat reserved.
Oyster-shell and a little red raspberry with some wild strawberry (almost no fruit, might be in a dumb phase)
Tannins are plush.

Tasted by mschauber on 5/19/2023 & rated 95 points: I was worried this was past its prime... Not at all. A little aeration and this full bodied smooth and tasty specimen is still going strong. Opened this 2008 when I couldn't locate my last bottle of 2005. I was pleasantly surprised, as was my guest. I hope I can locate my last 2008 bottle.. maybe it's in hiding with the 2005 ;) (577 views)
Tasted by Labrador on 9/24/2022 & rated 91 points: This bottle was hitting on all cylinders - rich and elegant, balanced and smooth, and lovely on the palate. (907 views)
Tasted by winelover1808 on 12/23/2021 & rated 90 points: Lots of tart plum. Finish is a bit clipped. Very good but a bit one dimensional, so very good but not amazing. (1418 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 12/8/2021 & rated 91 points: Gang of 4 in Covid19 times; Some random wines.: Beautiful, slightly smoky bouquet with dark berries and garrigue. On the palate a full bodied, yet elegant and concentrated wine with herbs and spices, mocha, beautiful acidity and a touch of sweetness. (1649 views)
Tasted by JB12 on 11/26/2021 & rated 92 points: Decanted 4 hr. Went well with turkey thanksgiving. Wine is choosy with the meal combinations. Some chocolate flavors. One of these left. Thinking it should sit for a long time. Maybe those 22,5 years from CT Erics recent email on another CDP. (1072 views)
Tasted by anonymoose12345 on 6/22/2021 & rated 90 points: Half of the bottle decanted for 3 hours and drank over a few hours. Other half slow oxed and drank over a few hours.

Decanted:
Rusty light red in the glass. Nose of alcohol, dried sweet red fruit, savory spice, cigar box, menthol cigarettes, soy sauce (?). On the palate, light to medium weight, ripe tart fruit, alcohol, initially silky. Short tart finish with tannins.

Slow oxed:
Nose of ripe red fruit, dried red fruit, hint of funk. On the palate, dried fruit, alcohol, mint. More mid palate weight. Short tannic finish.

I wanted to like this more than I actually did. Not sure if this is over the hill or too young...it's just disjointed. I'll hold my last bottle for a couple years and see what happens. (1301 views)
Tasted by Labrador on 1/14/2021 & rated 87 points: No formal notes, but this was a nice bottle of CNDP. (1377 views)
Tasted by awever on 1/3/2021 & rated 91 points: Schöner eleganter CDP, aber ohne die Wucht und Würze besserer Jahrgänge, trotzdem ein sehr schöner Essensbegleiter (1148 views)
Tasted by JB12 on 9/25/2020 & rated 92 points: Needs to breathe to take the edge off. Coravined a glass and started sipping. Needed more time, so I let it sit for another hour. Suggest 3 hr decant to smooth out. (1224 views)
Tasted by Labrador on 3/17/2020 & rated 89 points: No formal notes but a very enjoyable CNDP. (1399 views)
Tasted by kostaslonis on 10/2/2019: Krotida Wine Trip to Priorat & Barcelona; 9/29/2019-10/2/2019: The wine shows high intensity, alcohol heat from the 15%, ripe red fruit, cherry, spicy and earthy notes, medium body, nice tannins, thick oak frame, medium finish.
This was the last stop of the 4-day havoc in Catalonia but I rather expected more of this (1191 views)
Tasted by JB12 on 9/3/2019 & rated 92 points: Getting better. Decanted for 90 min. Seemed to do the trick. Berry flavors are subtle and even. The wine is smooth with no sticks. Still a little alcohol on the pallet. (1569 views)
Tasted by JB12 on 3/20/2019 & rated 92 points: Dry nice after it opened up. Has alcohol on the nose at the beginning. After an hour or so that disappears and the even fruit flavor comes out. (1780 views)
Tasted by mgreitzer on 12/26/2018 & rated 93 points: Delightful right out of the bottle. Vibrant, slightly tannic, black cherry and spice with gravel and earth undertones. (1892 views)
Tasted by JB12 on 12/10/2018 & rated 91 points: - It's somewhat balanced with a medium body. Bright texture with a medium finish - Even flavored with a little bite at the end. Some alcohol on the tongue. Opened coravined bottle for an hour of so before drinking. (1920 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 11/21/2018 & rated 92 points: This is very tasty. For a weak vintage this is really good. Nice fruit and complexity. (1761 views)
Tasted by broadband013 on 10/6/2018 & rated 91 points: Vraiment très bien ! (1595 views)
Tasted by CarpeVinum on 10/6/2018 & rated 89 points: This was well downslope and past it’s prime. Purchased in secondary market, maybe wasn’t stored well. Was a struggle to drink. (1425 views)
Tasted by asteff on 7/23/2018 & rated 91 points: Nice. Title. Hints of raisins on top of nice Grenache fruits. Drank a touch hot but most well composed. (1780 views)
Tasted by David Meddings on 3/18/2018 & rated 86 points: Decanted 1 hour. Clear dark garnet with some suspended sediment. Relatively closed nose, some whiffs of garrigue. Brisk attack with an acidic, prickly spine that dominates most of the sensation. There is fruit here but the alcohol overwhelms it - this was like drinking a tawny port without the sweetness, heft or complexity. Trying to discern what was behind the wall of alcohol one finds some fine drying tannins, some cough syrup style kirsch notes and a suggestion of sandalwood. But this is simply far too extracted and alcoholic for my palate. Clearly others here see it differently but I am increasingly finding the signature Janasse style to be not to my liking. (2038 views)
Tasted by MJMorris55 on 12/26/2017 & rated 91 points: Terrific CdP, beautiful color tending to a reddish-purple, nose of violets, grapes, with hints of cedar, smoke and grassy earth. Full on Grenache here in all it’s tasty glory. Great with food. Last of my 2008 vintage, wish I had a few more bottle to track the future development...but not sorry for drinking this wine now...so good. (1951 views)
Tasted by jreynolds3 on 8/4/2017 & rated 92 points: One of the best '08 CdPs I've enjoyed. (2602 views)
Tasted by broadband013 on 7/22/2017 & rated 91 points: Très typique de ce vin. En moins fruité ce qui n'est pas pour me déplaire.

Prêt à être bu, mais pas de signe de vieillesse. (2519 views)
Tasted by bengti on 12/31/2016 & rated 96 points: New Year's Eve. From magnum, this was a beast still in youth but nonetheless enjoyable. Double decanted 6 hours ahead. Once popped, this alluring rich scent of ripe fruit, tar, chocolate waffed into the room. Then in to the decanter it was a tight and HUGELY OAKED wine. It took about 4 hours for the oak to subside, multiple pourings between decanters. In the evening, it was a muscular meaty wine with powerful red fruits, leather, rich spices, game and underbrush. Fine structure and no trace of heat but some tightness lingered. It would be better in 2-3 years but was very enjoyable nonetheless right now. (2859 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
