Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 100 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by NickA on 10/27/2023 & rated 93 points: Burgundy Wimps 2023 - Hôtel Frédéric Carrion table (La Trompette): Deep and ample on the nose, and something tomatoey. A good line of acidity, verging on volatile, lots of energy, and an earthiness. Old school and delicious. (837 views)
Tasted by ThomasOCM on 4/30/2023 & rated 93 points: I'm down to the last two bottles of this and this one is my favorite. A few others before this I thought were leaning out but this wine is singing. Wonderful combination of dark, but still lots of red, fruits. Matched incredibly well with roasted chicken, brown mushroom gravy, duck fat pan roasted mini potatoes cut in quarters, slightly spicy bean salad. I'm fairly sure the food enhanced the wine. Wish I had more in my glass and in my cellar! Aren't we lucky. (881 views)
Tasted by Winemaker51 on 11/26/2022 & rated 93 points: This wine is at it’s peak and really in a good place! Sandalwood, touches of oak; maraschino cherries, slight tertiary. Lots of fruit, good acidity and velvet texture. The 2006 was a good year for the Enfant Jesus; after all. Just needed time. Highly recommended for fans of Premier Cru Cote de Beaune (1327 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 7/12/2022: Light red with a touch of brown. Lovely red fruit and soil. Medium weight. Equal parts of strawberry and black cherry, light earth, excellent acidity, and inner mouth floral tones. Quite a beauty and just about fully resolved. This bottling is almost always worth a look, and this vintage has turned out surprisingly well. (2112 views)
Tasted by TheFoodieTraveler on 5/21/2022 & rated 93 points: Nice minerality , red fruits , very food friendly (1766 views)
Tasted by Zunga on 4/17/2022 & rated 92 points: This always shines. It’s in a wonderful place. Elegant with a pinch of bramble. (1537 views)
Tasted by BurgunDivine on 1/1/2022 & rated 93 points: Tasted blind, it displayed a true "grand cru" level. Finesse, some power, great length, velvety.

A l'aveugle, du niveau d'un vrai grand cru : finesse, puissance retenue, grande longueur, toucher de velours.

A ciegas, del nivel de un verdadero Grand cru : finura, potencia moderada, muy largo, aterciopelado. (1677 views)
Tasted by Montecalvo on 12/11/2021 & rated 91 points: Definitely on the young side. Clean ripe fruit. preserved color at rim. not really complex at this point. good balance. I think this has a lot of potential but it's a long way off like another decade. (1407 views)
Tasted by Oenovice on 11/28/2021: . (1184 views)
Tasted by Burgundynick on 4/12/2021 & rated 92 points: my last bottle of 12.
.
Nose was very pronounced with red fruits of plums, cherries and strawberries. Lots of forest floor and earthiness, some spiced oak and a hint of smoke. Palate was still holding up well, and quite fresh. Beautiful soft silky tannins, lots of red fruits, medium bodied and a finish that went on and on, with some sweet fruits, delicious and certainly worth seeking out to try and #giveanewwineago a true classic #pinotnoir 92 points (1546 views)
Tasted by Genghis88 on 3/14/2021 & rated 90 points: Light red, burnt burgundy in color
Red fruit, dusty, leather, hint of wood
Tannin still present, nice acidity. Fruit waning. A very refined, subtle wine. Everything i in balance but weaker than my last bottle. Some red fruit leather. Medium finish. I feel it's peaked and is heading downhill from here. Drink up. (1702 views)
Tasted by winot on 8/16/2020 & rated 92 points: Medium pale to medium ruby/mahogany.
Rich earthy berry nose which seems very terroir oriented.
Super silky palate, but some power too.
Nice depth and length, this is prime Burgundy, one of the best Jesus we’ve had. Subtle yet powerful. Elegant yet deep. Great balance. (1793 views)
Tasted by Hamozus on 11/7/2019 & rated 93 points: Delicate nose of strawberries and flowers. Likewise, the palate has strawberries and cherries and a delicate flowery undertone, with a nice bright acidity and fine tannins.

Nez délicat de fraises et de fleurs. De même, la bouche est faite de fraises, de cerises, toujours ce côté délicat et fleuri avec une belle acidité et des tanins fins. (2585 views)
Tasted by Genghis88 on 9/13/2019 & rated 91 points: Light ruby colored with bricking rim
Loads of floral notes and red fruit off the nose.
Fruit is fading but still there. Cherries, raspberries, red licorice
Medium finish. Medium body. A very nice wine paired with a salmon dinner. Excellent wine, but I would get into this now as it is now at its peak.

Smoked a Davidoff Late Hour Robusto (2440 views)
Tasted by G.O. on 5/19/2019 & rated 95 points: Light brick color. Perfectly matured wine on its peak. Not enough words to express how much I loved it! 95 pts. at least. (2519 views)
Tasted by Burgundynick on 4/29/2019 & rated 91 points: Just on its way down. The fruit is starting to fade as it has a dry edge to it, but having said that, it's delicious with meaty undertones, red fruit and some herbs. 91 points Drink up soon. (2391 views)
Tasted by SchlaepDog on 4/21/2019 & rated 94 points: Really nice and mature Burgundy. Right in the spot where I like them with still fresh fruit but lots of secondary elements.

Aromatics were mostly earthy underbrush, faint sour cherry, and dried herbs. Lots of red and ripe sour cherry fruit up front under a delicate frame with herb flecked and gravelly nuances fold into the medium long seamless and silky finish. It lingers just so nicely on the tongue where the red cherry fades to cranberry and faint pomegranate.

Perfectly mature, should hold for at least a few more years. Seems like the perfect spot now though. (2101 views)
Tasted by Burgundynick on 2/8/2019 & rated 91 points: Wine tasting with 12 others and a great pinot noir and although it might be a tad past its best it was such a winner with everyone. Typical forest floor, strawberries, red cherries, not as full as a cote de nuits but a lovely drink. I would drink up in the next 2 years. 91 points (1714 views)
Tasted by Irisland on 11/12/2018: 12 years on, this is still almost entirely primary. The sweet fruit is balanced by present but not offensive tannins, and it is very clear that this wine could age for a long time. It’s totally approachable now, but I’m somewhat disappointed that I opened it, if only because I think the development would really be something to see in about 10-15 more years. If I have one minor complaint, for my taste the acidity is just a HINT lower than I like, but it’s by no means out of balance. Just worth mentioning for those who may share that preference, something I find in a fair amount of ‘06 red Burgundy. Enjoyable now, but would hold. (2107 views)
Tasted by Montecalvo on 6/21/2018 & rated 92 points: open and drinking well. good color preservation. still rather primary. (2580 views)
Tasted by Burgundynick on 4/2/2018 & rated 92 points: Very good and this bottle held up better than last year's. Delicate red fruit, good smooth tannins, touch of acidity and all round delicious stuff. 92 points (2634 views)
Tasted by fizz on 3/1/2018: Garnet. Lifted nose, with red and blue fruits, stalks, earth and roses. Tastes of earthy berries, crushed autumn leaves, saline. There's a refreshing acid line here, and it finishes with fine, chalky tannins. Maybe a touch of heat too. Delicious stuff. (2685 views)
Tasted by sdchevs on 8/8/2017 & rated 91 points: Mid-dark garnet, brick edges; stemmy, black cherry, wood and earth nose; similar to other vintages in less than great years; good acid/tannin balance; hints of wood in the aftertaste; long fruity finish. 16.5 91 (3952 views)
Tasted by JMFWC on 6/6/2017 & rated 92 points: Shows well after a double decant but needs 5 more years. (3667 views)
Tasted by Burgundynick on 4/17/2017 & rated 91 points: Showing its age a little bit and a tad different to my last bottle a few months ago, but the nose is so full of red fruit, forest floor and mushroom. The palate is delicate and balanced, with some soft red fruit, smooth tannins and tart cherry. It didn't hold up as long as my last bottle hopefully it's just the bottle as I have 4 more left and as April 06 is when I got married I'd like to taste the wine of Jesus for the next few years. 91 points (3283 views)

Burgundy-Report (4/1/2008)
(Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus) A softer and redder nose. A narrow entry but it bursts across the palate with accessible ripe fruit - structure and complexity follow in the next wave. I think it follows the Bèze much more successfully in 2006 than it did in 2005. Super.

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

Burgundy Report | Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne - na stejné téma od Heleny Baker

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
