Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.7 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 11 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by pford on 5/9/2020: 27 years old. Half bottle. Regrettably, but unsurprisingly, undrinkable. Heavily oxidized. Headed for the vinegar vat. (1260 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 5/18/2019 & rated 93 points: From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a deep yellow/ light gold center and clear rims. The medium intensity nose featured white stone, pear, lemon, apple, and some petroleum jelly notes in the background.

In the mouth, this had a bit of a hole in the center for the first hour or two of air. Afterward, it developed a great ripeness and acidity. It was not rich but gorgeously balanced for food.

This needed 4+ hours of air to show its best. The nose was more dramatic than the mouth which was fairly serious. This will easily last 10+ years. (1473 views)
Tasted by pford on 3/23/2013: 1/2 bottle. Sherry/oxidation notes. Darkening. Past prime. But still quite drinkable. (Cork in fantastic shape by the way.) (4247 views)
Tasted by Vini Ciclismo on 12/6/2012 & rated 90 points: Honeyed, fruity, light-med wt, shows some age in softness and development, but still crisp and nicely balanced. Good despite the years, a lovely old riesling.

Tasted by pjaines on 4/28/2012: Now this was an interesting bottle of booze. The nose was incredible - restrained Riesling notes that were semi-sweet and semi-tarte. The palate was a touch funky - I wouldn't say spoiled but definately not at its peak. Nevertheless I managed to knock back 3 glasses - minerals, terroir, earth and loamy. (4623 views)
Tasted by salil on 8/19/2011 & rated 88 points: Comes across a little shrill and austere at first but gains weight and depth with air; fresh pear and lemony fruit tinged by herbal and smoky elements over a vivid stony minerality and a spine of bright acidity, very enjoyable though for me suffered being poured alongside the Hirtzberger. (3891 views)
Tasted by salil on 12/20/2009 & rated 93 points: From magnum. Fantastic stuff with beautiful mature smoky, honeyed and truffle flavours combining seamlessly with ripe citrus and pear. Amazing balance with plenty of richness and depth and a spine of bright acidity keeping it very fresh and lively. (4205 views)
Tasted by InVinjeVeritas on 3/15/2009 & rated 90 points: Very good. Aged. Bone dry. (2315 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 6/22/2008 & rated 90 points: EWG Yu Jean Kang’s: Very dark, earthy, hi alc. after Germans, can feel and taste it; some old sock; Good, but where’s the beef? Not swt al ALL; Not blown away. (1418 views)
Tasted by RiojaGuru on 12/29/2006: Peaking right on target as of 12/06. Excellent mineral notes, some petrol, great acid balance and weight. The perfect example of a lesser vintage wine peaking very well and outshining the better, unresolved vintages. (2694 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 8/22/2000: Crisp and refined limey riesling nose with faint whiffs of kerosine. Palatte well structurede and focused with great depth and nuances of flavour. Not a full blown kerosene riesling, far more subtle and refined. Lovely. (2831 views)
