(1106 views) | | Tasted by guitarguy on 9/6/2016 & rated 87 points: Nice zinberry and a bit of baked note in the back oh the tongue/throat. Some heat and pepper on the finish. Drink now before the prune takes over. (1117 views) | | Tasted by NickP on 8/26/2016 & rated 90 points: Definitely at peak or slightly beyond for age of drinking. Lighter color than many Turley zins but surprisingly lush and flavorful. Great spice and fruit still evident with tannins totally softened. Very nice. Last one for me (1183 views) | | Tasted by MystMrQ on 7/23/2016 & rated 92 points: Opened up beautifully, with full, spicy, fruit-driven attack but with a surprisingly softness from fine-grained tannins. Drinking beautifully now, quite likely at its peak. Enjoy. (1266 views) | | Tasted by EvanRose on 12/25/2015 & rated 92 points: First bottle served with Christmas dinner of turkey and all the trimmings. An all American wine with good balance, soft tannins and a strong full fruit punch that accentuated the food flavors. Smooth and delicious. (1481 views) | | Tasted by JOJ on 11/1/2015 & rated 93 points: A fascinating contrast to an '09 Cedarman opened a night before. Blind, I never would have guessed the two wines came from the same variety. The Salvador was much lighter in color, and much brighter. Lovely nose of baking spice, brown sugar, underbrush, black cherry and smoke. Leads to black cherry and raspberry on the palate, interlaced with baking spice and a mineral/flint note. Peppery, spicy finish. Racy acidity. Almost like a full bodied RRV pinot. Great! (874 views) | | Tasted by dlduchon on 8/19/2015 & rated 93 points: Fantastic Zin and drinking great at the moment. Nice tannin/acid finish to keep the fruit in balance. A more restrained style for Turley that I enjoy far more than the big blockbusters. Tasted over two days and just as good the second day. On the lighter side for a Turley Zin. Smooth tannins. (895 views) | | Tasted by EvanRose on 4/5/2015 & rated 90 points: i served this with easter dinner, and it wasike a fruit punch righ in the face. incredible flavor, medium finish, but went well with highly herb seasoned turkey and stuffing. (875 views) | | Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 11/3/2014 & rated 87 points: Black cherry liqueur dominates both the aroma spectrum and flavor profile of this deep ruby/red wine. Full-bodied and with low-to-medium acidity, it adds tar, licorice, smoke and sous bois as a supporting cast, but these elements do not even remotely threaten the black cherry "star" of the show. Ripe and extracted, it is supple with respect to its fine-grained tannins, but the wine's substantial alcohol (listed as 15.4%) flexes some muscle even when served at 55-60°F. The black cherry fruit builds in the middle, accompanied by a bit of a medicinal component which makes it reminiscent of cough syrup. The finish is long but signs off with a whiff of heat. While this wine will undoubtedly have many fans, for my palate it is a bit over-the-top. Drink now-2016. (1150 views) | | Tasted by EvanRose on 5/11/2014 & rated 89 points: very rich and full bodied. good acidity, strong flavor of black fruit and a little hot on the palate (1141 views) | | Tasted by EvanRose on 4/14/2014 & rated 90 points: light, soft sweet fruit with good balance. went well with grilled stuffed turkey breast and traditionl thanksgiving fixings (1088 views) | | Tasted by patwjr on 3/30/2014 & rated 89 points: A lighter weight Zin. 1st sip was like grape juice (not bad), just a light, slightly sweet, with a white pepper finish. A Pinot Noir-like, elegant Zin. A glass 4 hours later was same. (1120 views) | | Tasted by whudock on 11/3/2013 & rated 93 points: bright and strong fruit coupled with a complex set of undertones including bacon fat, mushrooms, a hint of oak and earth. A wonderful bottle of wine! (1241 views) | | Tasted by cstir on 9/1/2013 & rated 90 points: Good fruit with balance and complexity; modest finish. (1140 views) | | Tasted by NickP on 5/28/2013 & rated 89 points: Can't give specifics as I drank this a while ago but I do recall this was a bit on the lighter side of Turley zins, but very pleasant. Will pay more attention to the next one. (1017 views) | | Tasted by Vinsboro on 4/28/2013 & rated 93 points: Garnet color, no fading. Medium color. Clear, not inky or extracted. Looks like Pinot. Aromas of red raspberry and graham cracker - Linzer tort. Balanced and bright in the mouth. Lots of finesse. Cocoa aromas and flavors developed after about an hour. Very Pinot-like in its elegance and overall presentation. Not brutish or burly like some of its siblings. Sourced from the winery. (1080 views) | | Tasted by chefpete on 3/22/2013 & rated 93 points: Drank so well - love Turley (1133 views) | | Tasted by gmglass on 2/9/2013 & rated 91 points: Perfectly balanced between spice and smooth...you can drink it solo, but goes perfectly with some robust cheese. (1034 views) | | Tasted by gwkozar on 1/6/2013 & rated 90 points: Bright, dark ruby. Lighter on palate than others, cherry and red fruit, some acid, tannins in background, good tang in mid-mouth. Medium finish. (874 views) | | Tasted by mattyboy76 on 11/24/2012 & rated 91 points: Really nice SV Turley. Lighter in the glass than most bottlings and plenty of red fruit on the nose and a hint of cedar. Agree with other notes that there wasn't as much spice as you get with others. Nice balance and a medium finish. (1230 views) | | Tasted by Mike Dildine on 1/14/2012 & rated 92 points: Very nice. Salvador has always been a personal favorite. (1708 views) | | Tasted by MotoMannequin on 12/31/2011: Smooth with jammy red and black fruits, not much structure or spice. Heat on the finish. Enough cherry-and-alcohol to put this close to cough syrup for me. The wife liked it though. (1733 views) | | Tasted by Matt T on 12/22/2011 & rated 90 points: Another nice effort by Turley. This features round, soft blackberry fruit, vanilla, and oak. A lot less spice and acid than the 09 Cedarman, Tofanelli, and Duarte, this a mellower wine that pairs nicely with meat. A tad less minerality and complexity than some other 09 Turleys, but a nice drinking wine nonetheless. Like most Turleys, this is ready to drink now.
My personal 2009 Turley rankings: Cedarman (92); Tofanelli (91); Old Vines (91); Salvador (90); Pesenti (90); Duarte (88); Juvenile (87). (1773 views) | | Tasted by markydecker on 11/24/2011 & rated 93 points: A little heat, but otherwise balanced and delicious, Turley standard well maintained. | Turley Producer website2009 Turley Zinfandel Salvador VineyardWinemaker's Notes: Another one of those rare, own-rooted vineyards from the late 1800’s – unbelievably unique – this special wine exudes a sense of place. Deep ruby red color to the rim, fruity, roasted, herbal, and earthy. The finish is clean and bright with sweet red fruits, well integrated French oak and spice. The sandy soils help the finished wine to remain fresh with low pH and bright acidity.Zinfandel ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-ZinfandelUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson |
