High alcohol, but not hot. (1171 views) | | Tasted by MJMorris55 on 7/4/2018 & rated 90 points: First bottle from this vineyard. Color was dark, clear. Nose was muted on opening but bloomed on decant...dried herbs, cedar, tobacco and strawberry. Nice Zinfandel character, a bit spicy, cigar box, more dried herbs, raspberry and ripe plum. Very nice. (1503 views) | | Tasted by bobvictor on 6/5/2018 & rated 91 points: Dark purple with a menthol alcohol spray nose. A lot of pepper, spice and black cherry to taste. Long finish in the lower palate / chin. It held up well and probably better than anything else I have against crushed hot red pepper flakes! (1534 views) | | Tasted by jonahfactor on 5/27/2018: From a bottle signed by LT and poured to break H’s wine fast. Beautiful, pure bouquet. Plums, apricots and blackberries wrapped in Asian spices. The complete package. Lusty fruit-driven finish. Drinking beautifully right now. (= Worth Seeking Out) (1532 views) | | Tasted by guitarguy on 7/4/2017 & rated 89 points: Zinberry nose and fruit with a very spicy, peppery finish that almost overpowers the wine. Demands attention. (1830 views) | | Tasted by silbakor on 3/30/2017 & rated 89 points: Lovely, bright and peppery the first night. Much less so night two. Don't over decant. But quite nice when popped and poured, up to a few hours of air. (1184 views) | | Tasted by cstir on 11/4/2016 & rated 90 points: Fairly powerful with nice structure and balance; firm tannins that open after 30 minutes; dark red fruit with nice depth; slight spice; moderate finish (885 views) | | Tasted by Rbird on 3/4/2016 & rated 91 points: Drinking nicely now. Well balanced (1247 views) | | Tasted by jonahfactor on 2/14/2016: Delicious -- but most importantly on this V-Day it was loved by the valentine herself. Dark purple with an amazing necklace. Dark pit fruits with that crazy Turley apricot finish. Very spicy and begs for sip after sip. Medium bodied; tannins resolved. I believe this is from one of winemaker Tegan's vineyards that is head pruned and dry farmed. Drink now. (=Worth seeking out) (1237 views) | | Tasted by unc0rked on 7/11/2015 & rated 91 points: Excellent zin and IMHO at peak maturity. I am sure it can go longer but the zin was nicely balanced with great fruit and good finish. (1309 views) | | Tasted by Sklein01 on 2/17/2014 & rated 90 points: With FP and Deb. Very good. (2230 views) | | Tasted by WDSteers on 8/29/2013 & rated 90 points: more red berry fruit flavor than most Zin esp Turley, Not too tannic , silky and cocoa hints. Especially finessed for 1896 root stock. Paired with vegan cassoulet. (2313 views) | | Tasted by gossba on 3/14/2013 & rated 90 points: Pepper and tannic upfront with a sweet finish. Not my favorite 2010 turley. (2537 views) | | Tasted by jaxpaj on 2/25/2013 & rated 91 points: VERY Unique!! This is like a late harvest Zin. Smooth, thick, touch sweet, peppery notes on the back end. This will be a polarizing wine where some will love and others will say this is what I hate about CA wines. (2718 views) | | Tasted by Griffin5416 on 2/3/2013 & rated 90 points: Not as rich as some of the other Turleys but certainly has the turley character. Prefer some of the others but this is very solid. (2162 views) | | Tasted by BigSchmove on 2/1/2013 & rated 91 points: Very nice bottle of grapes. This is traditional Turley. I really enjoyed very balanced and full body. Grab it an go.... (1344 views) | | Tasted by Mootsie on 1/19/2013 & rated 91 points: Enjoyable, young Turley. Fruit forward, medium body, not really as intense as others I've had from them. Cranberry, raspberry nose. Anise, raspberry, a little heat, some oak, very balanced tannins. In summary, smooth, easy drinking, relatively sweeter wine with a little spice pop. (1200 views) | | Tasted by Fred44 on 12/10/2012 & rated 91 points: Dense, fruit forward, balanced tannins. (1245 views) | | Tasted by Mike Dildine on 12/9/2012 & rated 91 points: An excellent Turley Contra Costa Old Vine Zin!! | Turley Producer website2010 Turley Zinfandel Salvador VineyardWinemaker's Notes: If there were such a thing as a classic Contra Costa County Zinfandel (and we’re slowly but surely working towards that!) the Salvador would be it. The vineyard was planted in 1896 on its own roots in Delhi blow sand, which prevented phylloxera from rearing its ugly head. Soils are over 40 feet deep which allows the roots to extend deep into underground water tables. What sets the Salvador apart from other Zinfandels is the white fruit and floral aromatics – nectarine, orange blossom and peach pit. The wine is focused by firm acidity and stable, supple tannins that will help it age gracefully as well.Zinfandel ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-ZinfandelUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson |
