Community Tasting Notes (average 88.4 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by JDRFoster on 5/10/2014 & rated 91 points: Full gold, with an amber tinge, candied dried fruit, citrus pith, and a bit of cut straw, this beauty is mature but belies its age, drinking like a 5-7 year-old. From a pristine bottle and a cold cellar. Lovely. (3333 views)
Tasted by JDRFoster on 3/27/2013 & rated 84 points: Faded. Carmelized and nutty. (3687 views)
Tasted by Mark on 2/21/2008 & rated 86 points: No tasting not recorded. Impressive was, it's old. (5590 views)
Tasted by Red White on 1/16/2008 & rated 82 points: NOSE: Citrus and honeysuckle with a hint of vanilla
PALATE: crisp flavors of Lemon, white oak
FINISH: Moderate lemon lingers as oak fades into the background, resurfacing later.

Acohol: 14.4% (5338 views)
Tasted by dtirsell on 4/6/2007 & rated 85 points: Let this one slip by, most of the fruit was gone, oaky, thin remaining finish..... (5759 views)
Tasted by dabovino on 11/24/2006 & rated 91 points: Yummy. Still drinking well. (3302 views)
Tasted by Mark on 4/12/2006 & rated 87 points: Tasting notes from memory. I recall that the bottle tool considerable time to open up, but even after a few hours, it still retained a burnt butterscotch element indicating that it was on the decline. Some fruit and citrus remain but I think it’s done. (3364 views)
Tasted by Pool Boy on 4/12/2005 & rated 89 points: No formal notes taken. HAd this at the Glen Ellen Inn restaurant while in wine county.

Nice chardonnay with very good acidity and balance. Nice balance of good mouthfeel and cispness makes this a great overall wine, what I like in a white, especially for easy drinking. I seem to remember good apple flavors. (3337 views)
Tasted by pinotwinelover on 2/18/2005 & rated 90 points: With lobster and shrimp the acidity went well. After dinner this almost reminded me of a chablis with a bit more maolatic butter. Nice. (3550 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 3/4/2004: ($24) Dad's 55th Birthday: This was a bit of a surprise. Restrained, elegant French oak treatment on the nose with white fruit that seemed dominated by pears. Rich flavors, balanced with a lovely, modest, sweetness. (2034 views)
Tasted by Eric on 8/1/2003 & rated 89 points: I brought this blind to McCarthy & Schiering, and Dan again showed that blinding him with Chardonnay will be close to impossible. Nice toast and some ash on the nose. On the palate this has excellent minerality, some green apple, and that classic Dehlinger acidity. This has a long, mouth-watering finish. (3342 views)
Tasted by Eric on 3/30/2003 & rated 90 points: Seattle Tasting Group does Tuscan reds (Seattle, WA, USA): When I saw the deep gold color in the glass I thought, oh no, not another California Chardonnay. A year ago I used to love these, but lately the wood is really getting to me. Sure enough, I stick my nose in the glass, and this is oozing toast and butter. Reluctantly I take a taste and there is the toast, but oh what a luscious body to this wine. And then the zingy acidity kicks in and this thing is alive in my mouth with a really powerful finish. Wow, this is a CA-Chard that I like. And so against everything in me I rated this as a 90 point wine and was even more pleased when I realize I have my own bottle of this down in the cellar. As an aside, I have to say that I have loved every bottle of wine I have ever tasted from Dehlinger (Pinot, Chard and Syrah) (5214 views)
Tasted by Tracy on 3/30/2003 & rated 88 points: STG-Aromas of freshly baked sugar cookies and lemon custard. Great toasted oak taste with a hint of fruit. (5743 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
