Tasted by pyrat40 on 7/16/2022 & rated 92 points: A delicious classic Turley zin that held up well. Lots of dark fruit -cherry, blackberry. Age has smoothed any rough edges; not hot despite the 15.7% ABV. (882 views)
Tasted by Steve & Merri on 10/22/2020 & rated 90 points: Drink now. Still good with dark fruit coming through, but finish has hints of starting to turn (1645 views)
Tasted by goldgarf on 12/21/2019 & rated 83 points: Decent flavor, but very one note and surprising alcohol (1883 views)
Tasted by Senso-beak on 9/9/2018 & rated 86 points: Opened with chicken fried rice. A bit tart and sour....a little tired. Lacking the classic zin brambleberry elements we look for in every zin. OK, but meh. Can you tone down the ABV and amp up the classic zin flavors and brambleberries??? Think mid-90s zins...the best had that.....where did they go? (2269 views)
Tasted by whudock on 3/6/2018 & rated 92 points: age has transformed this wine. Every rough and powerful edge now is smooth. There is a hint of fig to moderate the strong cherry. Lots of depth and smoothness. (2529 views)
Tasted by Ecb1456 on 1/4/2018 & rated 91 points: PnP with it strolling out of its window. Spicy blackberry leather nose. Thick mouth. Overripe berries, mint, and minerals all over the palate. Wonderfully cool on the tongue yet red hot finish. The 15.7% alcohol hangs on the tongue like a groupie at a rock concert. (2191 views)
Tasted by ocfriday on 11/20/2017 & rated 92 points: Fully agree with:

6/10/2017 - tomherer Likes this wine: 92 Points

So very zin-y -- big red fruit and bramble. Raspberry, cherry, and delicious, tangy blood orange that really defines the wine. Black licorice, tobacco, and pepper too. Generous finish with zippy fruit and caramel.

Drinking great now (1971 views)
Tasted by Ecb1456 on 7/27/2017 & rated 88 points: Did not age well. Thin with a little too much acid to it. Opened up after an hour or so of air but not very complex anymore. (1909 views)
Tasted by tomherer on 6/10/2017 & rated 92 points: So very zin-y -- big red fruit and bramble. Raspberry, cherry, and delicious, tangy blood orange that really defines the wine. Black licorice, tobacco, and pepper too. Generous finish with zippy fruit and caramel. Drink now through ~2023. (1768 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 4/27/2017 & rated 90 points: Lively nose of zinberry and sweat, this had flavors of lean slightly underripe blueberry, black pepper and a hint of buurt sugar or molasses. (1600 views)
Tasted by Salute on 2/27/2017 & rated 92 points: Ditto to my previous tasting note.
Decant, some sediment.
Drinking wonderfully now - no hurry but no need to wait either. (1611 views)
Tasted by sbern on 2/7/2017 & rated 90 points: In a good place right now. After decanting for over an hour, it was smooth and delicious. (1608 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 1/1/2017 & rated 91 points: I was quite satisfied with this bottle. Nice dark berry lift in the nose. Really balanced blueberry, pepper and acid with finishing notes of oak and vanilla. Drank well even sitting open (vacuvined) for four days. Some heat to finish but still a nicely made zin (1300 views)
Tasted by Birorganic on 10/14/2016 & rated 92 points: Delicious. Much better than the last bottle. Really opened up with air. Ready now. Drink up. (1370 views)
Tasted by Kahnru12 on 10/2/2016 & rated 91 points: Smooth & well-rounded tannins. Has aged well. Not too hot at all, like many Turley zins. Enjoy it now! (1215 views)
Tasted by Salute on 8/3/2016 & rated 92 points: Delicious - deep, rich fruit, but not too sweet. Drinking very well now. Sediment in bottle - decant. Also opens up nicely after 30 minutes (1312 views)
Tasted by Birorganic on 7/26/2016 & rated 90 points: Faded. Past its prime. Still very drinkable. Big faded fruit. Fully resolved. Younger Duarte's much better. Oops. (1311 views)
Tasted by jwalker1140 on 5/30/2016 & rated 92 points: Bright cherry. Drinking nicely. (1595 views)
Tasted by silbakor on 4/3/2016 & rated 92 points: Dark. Earthy. Spice box. Bright fruit. Subtle leather and barnyard. Big acidic fruit on the palate. Bramble. Tea. Wonderful complex nose. Medium finish. Very soft tannins at this point. Quite nice.
Popped & poured; better the longer it's open. Excellent after 3-4 hours. (1483 views)
Tasted by dlduchon on 2/26/2016: Wonderful aromatics, fall short on the finish, with low acid and tannins smoothed out. Menthol and blue fruits developing into cherry/red fruits with air. Alcohol/heat well hidden in thes wine with 15.7% alcohol. A touch out of balance at this stage, perhaps better in its youth. (1514 views)
Tasted by mreitsma on 11/18/2015 & rated 95 points: Incredible red berries with subtle sweetness. Intense dark red body. Very smooth. Ripper! (1682 views)
Tasted by M2quared on 11/14/2015: Good, well balanced wine. Rolls across the palate from front to back with nice mouth feel and good finish (1595 views)
Tasted by hoops92 on 11/2/2015 & rated 92 points: Rich, chewy, full bodied zin (1559 views)
Tasted by bluedog on 9/5/2015 & rated 91 points: Sweet cherry. (1556 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 7/12/2015 & rated 91 points: Medium density purple color. Soap box berry on the nose. Palate shows stringent red berry and cherry notes, with a touch of lingonberry and cranberry note followed by some dome stem, Christmas tree and root stock notes indicative of dry soil. Lighter in body than I expected. Well made. (1782 views)

2010 Turley Zinfandel Duarte

Winemaker's Tasting Notes: A perfect example of why Contra Costa should be included in the list of great Zinfandel terroirs. All the great Zinfandel characteristics are present—red & blue fruits, sweet spice, balanced tannin—rounded out by a powerful concentration and richness. In fact, the Duarte is so ideally indicative of what Zinfandel is capable of in Contra Costa that Janis Robinson requested vineyard information & images to be included in her new book about domestic wine, out later this year.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
