Tasted by 165Wine on 12/17/2023 & rated 95 points: Fabulous. Drinking beautifully. So smooth and full of life. Deep, candied complex flavors of prunes and dark red fruits. This vintage still has room to develop. (472 views)
Tasted by Harley1199 on 11/23/2023: By the glass. Soft and sweet on the nose with elegant aromas of cherries and luxury pastry. Dense and abundant in the mouth with depth, tasty and an extraordinary length. After tasting this 'vintage single estate' I can not wait to open my tawny bottle of Noval of this extraordinary although initially reviled vintage.

(658 views)
Tasted by havarhar on 12/28/2022 & rated 91 points: Mørk mursteinsrød, mot litt orange. Litt vandig kant.

Mørke søte bær på lukt.

Søtt anslag. Mørke søte bær. Søt, uten å være stikkende søt. Velbalansert, søt men ikke før søt, rød frukt men ikke før ung, alkohol men ikke alkoholstikk. Litt alderspreg, men har mange år igjen.

Litt alkohol, men ikke skjemmende.

Drukket over flere dager. En god portvin, som ble bedre og bedre utover uka. (1002 views)
Tasted by CarpeDiem! on 3/11/2022 & rated 94 points: A long wait since I bought this in Portugal. Remarkably young and fresh, enormously complex, with the typical phenolic sweetness, cooked ref berries, spices and herbs. Perfectly structured and balanced. No hurry for the next bottle, perhaps in a decade. (1503 views)
Tasted by efeldhake@yahoo.com on 1/7/2022 & rated 92 points: Deep garnet in color with slight bricking edge. Nose of dark chocolate, dark cherries, and hint of menthol. Taste of being cherries, dark chocolate, espresso, and hence a vanilla. This is one of the better bottles i had from this vintage. Still young and filled with ripe fruit. Drink over the next 10-20 years. (1397 views)
Tasted by theportguy on 9/30/2021 & rated 93 points: 2021 FTLOP Harvest Tour; 9/19/2021-10/2/2021 (Portgugal): Blueberry, raspberry, and some herbal notes on the nose. Some nice red fruit and some chocolate notes on the palate. Nice balanced acidity and some noticeable sweetness on the very long finish. (1127 views)
Tasted by absimmons on 4/17/2021 & rated 86 points: Very nice for an old port. Cork was crumbled but straining out cork two times was effective. (1662 views)
Tasted by theportguy on 10/17/2020 & rated 94 points: Quinta do Vesuvio Tasting (Sammamish, Washington): The first sniff of the nose revealed some minerality and hints of slate with some blue fruits underneath. The expressive palate shows notes of chocolate and red fruit. There were some dusty tannins on the finish, which falls off just a little shorter than I normally see in this wine. 6 hours decant. (1647 views)
Tasted by theportguy on 10/13/2018 & rated 92 points: Sammamish Port Club - October 2018 (Sammamish, Washington): Very dark purple-red in color. Subtle nose of dark fruit and some floral notes. Rich, lush mouthfeel with a touch of bitterness giving way to expanding pomegranate flavors. Great, long finish with just a touch of alcohol. (1908 views)
Tasted by theportguy on 7/22/2017 & rated 92 points: FTLOP 12th Anniversary; 7/21/2017-7/23/2017 (Seattle, Washington): Cinnamon and some red fruit on the nose. Bright red fruit on the palate with strawberries and some boysenberry. Nice balance finish. (1899 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 7/10/2016 & rated 91 points: Only 3,000 cases declareded (just 10% of the annual production of this 408 ha vineyard), foot-trodden in the lagares at the Quinta, 20% ABV. Pristine bottle, cork extracted without any difficullty. Dark and sombre colour, just starting to brown at the edges; lovely and lifted nose, violets and toasted spices, cherry liqueur, deep minerality; the palate is satiny and elegant, beautifully balanced, medium-bodied, juicy and fresh with light but grippy tannins, cherry and milk chocolate flavours; lovely length. A civilised but hardly a spectacular vintage port, fully mature but should age well on the strength of its immaculate balance, drink now - 2032+. (5084 views)
Tasted by ecnemergut on 9/13/2008 & rated 88 points: A very nice, if not simple, little port. Black fruit nose with some subtle floral notes and trace alcohol. Very smooth on the palate with more fruit. Oerall, very nice; but not complex. (9558 views)
Tasted by ronnieroots on 12/7/2007 & rated 91 points: Concentrated nose with dark fruit, mint and dark chocolate. Very smooth, good concentration, fresh fruit, chocolate and tobacco flavours. Soft tannins and a sweet, yummy finish. Not too complex, but an utter joy to drink. We drank this over two days and it was very constant throughout. (9504 views)
Tasted by Thirstyguy on 6/21/2007 & rated 91 points: Drank a little before optimum maturity but still a wonderful port. (9331 views)
Tasted by ajfeather on 6/7/2006: Very smooth and well integrated. Alcohol doesn't dominate as much as say the 1994. Great length, sweet and lots of fruit. Almost has the wow factor. Very much my style of VP (perhaps too sweet for some?). (10186 views)
Tasted by PortFanatic on 10/26/2005 & rated 91 points: Tasted at the Dow's Port Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia - Awesome nose! Really inviting. Extremely dark color. Extremely young, floral nose. Wonderful, smooth, candied flavor. Fine tannins. 91+ points. (6714 views)
Tasted by TGHaddon on 11/20/2004: Fairly elegant nose but still very fruit laden, blackberry and apple jam character. Sweet in the mouth but with an appealingly savoury edge. Soft character but good fruit intensity and lovely length. Seems more like a nice, if intense wine, than a vintage port. (5095 views)

(VESUVIO Quinta do) Dessert Bargains Dear Friends, Trying to fight jet-lag and it’s getting the best of me. Sometimes I wish you cold snap your fingers to control the sensory controls that dwell within the brain - the place that spearheads the complicated mix of melatonin and other brain chemicals to make you feel awake - would have come in handy during my college exams and certainly right now. Yikes, I’m exhausted....and it’s only 8:00am... We don’t offer dessert wines very often but here are two great bargains that have just been confirmed and both are well under-priced for the market. The Rieussec is a top price/value contender from a vintage that is completely overlooked because it had the misfortune of following one of the greatest vintages in history but, If you are looking for a well-priced split of Sauternes while you wait for your 2001s to fully mature, here you go. The Vesuvio is just a great buy and it is actually drinking really well right now. With a decade of age on the wine, this is a vintage Port you can bring to a special dinner and receive many satisfied stares in your direction. It will continue to age but it’s also a joy to drink at present - especially at this price. Both of these are in perfect condition, cellared under ideal conditions at 55 degrees since release: 2002 Chateau Rieussec (375ml) (WA90 - no tasting note) ...also... 1997 Quinta do Vesuvio (Port) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Bord8420 Port7900

Port Blend

Over a hundred varieties of grapes (castas) are sanctioned for port production, although only five (Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional) are widely cultivated and used.
