Tasted by wynlvr on 4/24/2023 & rated 90 points: Surprised when the fruity nose rushed out upon opening. Last bottle, finished strong. (137 views)
Tasted by wynlvr on 3/9/2023 & rated 88 points: Time to drink (169 views)
Tasted by Caroltje on 12/30/2020: Just average- left it to long before drinking. (949 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 4/16/2016: Zachys Fine & Rare Wines - Apr 2016 & an evening w/friends (Smith & Wollensky (48th & 3rd Ave)): This was a bit of a social experiment as one of the auction folks from Zachys poured glasses blind for a few tables and then came by to see what we thought it was. Individually at each table we came up with late 90's white burgundy. The age was apparent and it really had many of the characteristics of a chardonnay (esp that buttery feel on the end). So really we were wrong across the board. Amazing how fresh it was (given CT drinking window of 2008). Very clean on the palette. Hints of honey (so I should have seen the Roussanne, but once had a Chard from France that mimicked the Northern Rhone approach to wine making and this seemed more like that). Fun experiment. (2682 views)
Tasted by Dan M on 1/8/2011: Pale golden color with some sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Opened it a fridge temp and it was not giving much of a nose with butterscotch on the finish. As it warmed up, it a more classic rhone white blend appeared. It was definitely more restrained than other younger bottles I have had. Nice full mouth feel. Not bad considering I had thought this long gone over the hill. (4430 views)
Tasted by MarkC on 3/15/2010 & rated 80 points: The wines I'm opening tonight are getting better, but this still isn't anything to write home about. My third wine opened in 10 minutes, and it's drinkable at best. Maybe if I had a plate of appetizers and was busy trying to pick up a chick, I'd be able to chug this and ignore its lack of interest. (4675 views)
Tasted by RMundell on 12/13/2009 & rated 88 points: smooth silky wine a little on the sweet side. (4755 views)
Tasted by mwrichter on 11/6/2009 & rated 90 points: Delicious wine at the end of its life but still drinking well. (4305 views)
Tasted by jakearoe on 5/12/2009 & rated 80 points: BLAH (3959 views)
Tasted by A&C on 9/6/2008 & rated 92 points: This can only be described at this stage as smooth, silky, buttered toast. This has vasty improved with time. Very smooth and buttery, but not over the top. (2966 views)
Tasted by rmodak on 1/22/2008 & rated 83 points: Color was a golden yellow. The wine was packed with ripe pineapple, peaches and vanilla bean. On the palate, banana fruit dominated the viscous mouthfeel. Ultimately, the high alcohol emerged victorious and the wine finished hot and bitter. Having had this wine before, I believe it needs to be drunk on release while it has some freshness and acidity to balance the sheer weight. In some vintages, even on release, it is difficult to drink. (3240 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 9/14/2007 & rated 80 points: What happened to this wine? We used to love the fruit, the variety of flavors and the rhome like qualities. This vintage is the 2nd or 3rd in a row where we have not found the apricot, grapefruit or kiwi we have tasted in the earlier years. This was very bland and nuetral tasting, lacking in the above mentioned fruit flavor. We were very disappointed in this wine and I guess we will take it off our go to list. (3572 views)
Tasted by MJTed on 9/10/2007 & rated 88 points: Downed my lone bottle with grilled halibut. Rich and creamy mouthfeel with nice balance. deep yellow color and flavors not all that discernable form a typical mid-rnage Cali Chardonnay. (3495 views)
Tasted by PLB on 9/9/2007 & rated 90 points: Always a favorite (3507 views)
Tasted by A&C on 9/8/2007 & rated 86 points: At the beginning, much more oak than previous bottles. After the wood faded, it settled in just fine. (3685 views)
Tasted by biff_of_burl on 7/1/2007: My last bottle until my upcoming trip to Templeton to reload. Very pleasant and well balanced. Not complex nor deep. Yes, rich like a Chardonnay - California Rhone. My recollection is "mmmmm - and pricey". Without the label, I wonder. (3700 views)
Tasted by A&C on 6/28/2007 & rated 90 points: This was creamy, smooth and wonderful. It met expectations. (3811 views)
Tasted by A&C on 6/3/2007 & rated 80 points: Not as good as some other bottles we've had. More acid than is typical. Less smooth. More like a Chardonnay. Somewhat disappointing. I think there is a great variability between bottles. Odd. (3891 views)
Tasted by A&C on 5/10/2007 & rated 94 points: This is a very nice wine. Smooth, rich and yes, creamy. An amazing texture. Two words descibe it perfectly -- smooth and creamy. No bitterness. (3976 views)
Tasted by A&C on 4/29/2007 & rated 89 points: This was the beginning of the week of Michele. Yummy. Oakey. Rich and yet light. Cheers to the commencement of the week of Michele. (3927 views)
Tasted by Chauncy on 2/4/2007: Good (4046 views)
Tasted by Thralow on 1/25/2007 & rated 93 points: I was extremely happy. My wife said it was better iced down. I liked it at cellar temp and cold. (4428 views)
Tasted by RiedelBeagle on 11/25/2006 & rated 86 points: I've found that past vintages of this wine have exhibited a lot of bottle-to-bottle variability in quality. So it's worth noting that I've had two bottles of the 2004 in the past few days. Both were about the same. Thin mouthfeel. Strong acidity, a lot of alcohol, and a kind of thick, nondescript tartness combined to make a rather burning wine without much personality. No flowers, no lychees... Definitely not worth the price. Will this wine evolve more complexity with additional aging? I doubt it. I love the white Rhone varietals, and I wish I knew of a reliably good California rendition. After drinking a few vintages of The White Coat, I'm coming to the conclusion that this ain't it. (4460 views)
Tasted by M DU VIN on 11/23/2006 & rated 87 points: Somewhat disapponting after having tasted prior vinatages of the White Coat. Nice floral tones, but seemed to lack depth and acidity. (4900 views)
Tasted by amex777n on 9/9/2006 & rated 91 points: Drank this at cellar temperature (58) and enjoyed it greatly with a sushi/sashimi dinner. (4609 views)

Turley The White Coat

The White Coat (named for Larry’s past career as an Emergency Room physician) is composed of white Rhône grapes from three of our Estate vineyards across California. The rich, textured Roussanne from Rattlesnake Ridge on Howell Mountain in Napa is moderated by acidity and structure provided by the Grenache Blanc grown in the calcareous soils of the Pesenti Vineyard in Paso Robles. Finally, the blend is rounded out with a touch of refreshing, mineral Vermentino (also known as Rolle) from the granitic and quartz-laden Cobb Vineyard in Amador. The result is an exceptional, dynamic white wine that is truly California.

Turley's signature white blend of Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, and Roussanne, all white Rhône grapes. Ripe yellow fruits, candied lemon peel, spiced apple, cantaloupe, honeysuckle, and sun-warmed white stone. A quintessential winter white wine; rich and luscious yet fresh and well-proportioned. Would be exquisite with scallops or spiny lobster, drinking well now at 40°-50°F.

White Rhone Blend

A white wine containing two or more Rhône varieties, including: Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
