Tasted by ParisWino on 4/14/2021: Had a better-than-expected experience with the '06 version of this wine a few days ago, but my anticipations for this bottle were even lower as the bottle's clear glass showed a very deep golden/light-amber colored wine. Although the wine was not irredeemably shot, oxidation has already started. Sure, there's a fair amount of fruit left, but stylistically it seems clear there wasn't much acidity to begin with, and the impression now is like drinking mead -- interesting enough for a few sips, but ultimately too cloying and palate fatiguing to drink even a full glass -- between the sherry notes and the honeyed fruit, it drinks somewhat like a dessert wine. Indeed, the best / only justifiable use for a full bottle at this stage would be as small pours to accompany a cheese plate. (684 views)
Tasted by jpbach13C on 2/10/2019 & rated 92 points: I’ve been dreading opening this bottle as I expected it to be years past it’s good til date. I should not have been concerned. It was great. Dark apricot colour. Balanced. Advanced but not sherry like. Roasted nuts, dried fruit, citrus, secondary, mushroom stock, . Similar to an old Loire chenin blanc. Very satisfying. (1010 views)

Tasted by bablues on 12/6/2014: Well past it's prime. Was very interested in trying it but was not drinkable (1852 views)
Tasted by Samadhi on 2/15/2012: Sadly, this one slipped our notice until it was too late. It was very far gone. Too bad... (3018 views)
Tasted by Samadhi on 5/25/2011 & rated 88 points: Definitely showing its age, but it was well received by my guests. Still beautiful and amazingly complex. (3002 views)
Tasted by kenv on 8/28/2010 & rated 87 points: Dark gold color. Smoky, appealing, slightly maderized nose. Heading OTH. Drink up! Nutty, appealing with food, but showing some signs of oxidation. (3045 views)
Tasted by sayward on 8/21/2010 & rated 86 points: past its prime. (2649 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 10/20/2008 & rated 92 points: Although deep golden color still very fresh with no signs of oxidation. Exotic aromas similar to the 3/11/08 bottle. Same on the palate except more complex and integrated fruit than the prior bottle. (2500 views)
Tasted by monzell on 8/6/2008 & rated 93 points: Still suave. See 2/15/2007. Alcohol seemed less prominent this time. Beautiful wine. (2159 views)
Tasted by gschneider on 5/29/2008 & rated 92 points: Second bottle, almost a year later. Wow! Even better, one of the best US Rhone versions ever tasted. Now has multiple levels of honeysuckle and white flowers. Finishes smooth and not as heavy. Just fabulous. (1941 views)
Tasted by speedmac on 4/9/2008: In reading the last few tn here I agree with everyone- unctious, honeysuckle and evolved white fruit- but this is above all a food wine. I did not notice acidity but maybe it was due to the acidity in our Nicoise salad- the capers and anchovies were the perfect foil. I would have a hard time finding a better white Rhone blend made in the states, and the time in bottle has helped develop the richness. If I had to put a number on this it would be higher than most but it all depends on the pairing. (2383 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 3/11/2008 & rated 90 points: At peak. Deep gold color. Exotic nose of white flowers, orange, butterscotch and quince. Highly extracted, thick fruit in the mouth with good acidity. The finish is long but tempered by the still ample oak. A flamboyant but not very complex big mouthful of wine. (1990 views)
Tasted by JDRFoster on 12/2/2007 & rated 90 points: Golden color with a hint of green apple peel; Unctuous, with honey, candied fruit, oak, and hint of tangerine. Consumed with fabulous sushi. (2240 views)
Tasted by gschneider on 8/19/2007 & rated 90 points: Mature Rhone like White with plenty of character; good balance and syrupy fruit. Literally golden color. Almost dessert quality. Not sweet, just thick. Buttery fruit was dominated by honey, melon, mango and touch of vanilla oakiness. Nice wine, but I would think wont last to many more years. (2110 views)
Tasted by MarkC on 2/18/2007 & rated 88 points: At first this seemed slightly oxidized, but this component went away after some time. Definitely best served a bit colder at this point, and I wouldn't hold onto these for much longer. That said, this is an enjoyable wine - waxy, slightly tropical fruit, with decent acid to balance it. Finish was relatively one-dimensional, but medium length. (2487 views)
Tasted by monzell on 2/15/2007 & rated 91 points: Suave. Ripe melons & apricots, honey, some wild herbaceous undertone. As elegant as the bottle suggests. Served with minted rice meatballs, an egg and lemon broth, and a feta and pine nut spinach salad. Delish. Only minus was the high alcohol. (2646 views)
Tasted by Tejano on 2/4/2007 & rated 88 points: Full rich gold color and a muted nose of minerals and citrus. Interesting...as my wife noted...really buttery and rich...with a smooth grip that wrapped up a medium fruit texture. Last bottle...should not have waited this long...but still a very nice wine. (2377 views)
Tasted by Bardamu on 7/7/2006 & rated 89 points: Big, fat and tasty, what more can I say? (2810 views)
Tasted by trankin on 7/2/2006 & rated 89 points: Well-balanced, nice wine but a bit tart, a touch overly acidic. Some nice flowers at points. Paul thought our ribs brought out the best in this although I thought it really brought out the acids. Past prime, although still pretty nice. (2736 views)
Tasted by trankin on 6/12/2006 & rated 89 points: Trip to Italy 2006 (part 1); 6/10/2006-6/12/2006: Honeysuckle and bananas, manadarine orange. Nice but a little past prime. (3968 views)
Tasted by Tejano on 6/3/2006 & rated 87 points: Nice rich gold color, but a nose that never really opened up to any extent...but the mouthfeel and taste was enjoyable with a simple entry and a medium grip with a fruit texture of citrus, sweet stone fruit and some green apple. Not overbearing, and maybe a bit past its time. Time to drink up. (2744 views)
Tasted by R Grouse on 2/21/2006 & rated 87 points: A gold colored Rhone blend of Roussanne and Viognier showing notes of honey, apricots, apple, vanilla and almond. On the palate, a rich creamy texture with a medium length, spicy, slightly tart finish. (3209 views)

Turley The White Coat

The White Coat (named for Larry’s past career as an Emergency Room physician) is composed of white Rhône grapes from three of our Estate vineyards across California. The rich, textured Roussanne from Rattlesnake Ridge on Howell Mountain in Napa is moderated by acidity and structure provided by the Grenache Blanc grown in the calcareous soils of the Pesenti Vineyard in Paso Robles. Finally, the blend is rounded out with a touch of refreshing, mineral Vermentino (also known as Rolle) from the granitic and quartz-laden Cobb Vineyard in Amador. The result is an exceptional, dynamic white wine that is truly California.

Turley's signature white blend of Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, and Roussanne, all white Rhône grapes. Ripe yellow fruits, candied lemon peel, spiced apple, cantaloupe, honeysuckle, and sun-warmed white stone. A quintessential winter white wine; rich and luscious yet fresh and well-proportioned. Would be exquisite with scallops or spiny lobster, drinking well now at 40°-50°F.

White Rhone Blend

A white wine containing two or more Rhône varieties, including: Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
