Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Sarco on 10/12/2022 & rated 89 points: Still quite young and difficult to rate. Will probably develop to an excellent wine (90-93). Raisins, black pepper, dark fruit (blueberries?) and quite a bit of alcohol. Taste is sweet, and tannic and powerful with raisins, figs, blueberries and spices. Very good right now, probably excellent in 5-10 years and in many years to come. (978 views)
Tasted by henrygjeffreys on 10/19/2019: Tastes incredibly young, masses of dark fruit and still quite a bit of tannin. Keep. (2285 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 2/17/2017 & rated 88 points: Fairly dark red. Figs, cranberry, and black cherry. Delicious black cherry and dried fig flavours . Sweet tannic finish.

More traditional then the 08 Panascal but not as interesting or developed. (3062 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 9/20/2016 & rated 91 points: Portugal; 9/18/2016-9/25/2016 (Portugal): 48 hours to drink once opened. Moderately aromatic nose with black plummy fruit; palate is full bodied, nice youthful red fruit, good density, medium acidity, high alcohol but balanced well, high tannin; medium-plus finish. Nice but very young. 91 (3688 views)
Tasted by Vinophiliac559 on 5/16/2016 & rated 92 points: 92+ sweet over ripe blackberry and black cherry, licorice, a little heat, great balance and great potential. (3275 views)
Tasted by JWSOMMERFELD on 1/10/2016 & rated 92 points: Clear, deep ruby. Nose is youthful but beginning to show some development, medium- intensity: Black cherry, raisin, prune, cinnamon, cedar. Palate is dominated by firm tannin and opulent black fruit, raisin, and brown baking spice. Full bodied, high alcohol, with a long finish. Young, but lots of potential here. Drink 2020+

Edit: Decanted for 3 hours... wow, what a difference! Much more open. Tannins medium+, more aroma and flavor intensity, with a pronounced sweet licorice and cola note. (2827 views)
(2145 views)
Tasted by henrygjeffreys on 10/25/2014: smells dark, liquorice, damsons,

Port Blend

Over a hundred varieties of grapes (castas) are sanctioned for port production, although only five (Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional) are widely cultivated and used.
- Mayson (1999), Port and the Douro, p. 93

Guimaraens Vintage

In years when Fonseca does not ‘declare’ a classic vintage, it selects the finest grapes from its own vineyards to yield a small quantity of this superb wine, which is produced exactly as a declared Fonseca Vintage. Beautifully structured and perfectly balanced, Guimaraens Vintage Ports show Fonseca’s superb marriage of power and breed in a slightly lighter, earlier-maturing style.
