Day 7: Open knit compared to classic vintage, but still has a serious quality to the wine. Loads of dark fruit, cherry cordial, mint, a whiff of booze, vanilla, and Peychauds. In the mouth, the wine is full, silty tannins up front, modest acidity, modest booz heat in the fore and back of the mouth- a bit medicinal. Flavors are much more interesting than the nose- more mint, pastis, on top of the already present scents as flavors. It clings to the glass upon swirling; actually a rather pretty nose, sweet, plums, chocolate, spearmint and liquorice. Very drinkable as well- a kind of oily acidity balances well with the tannins, which are very fine, and layer the mouth; modestly sweet. It seems a little closed but the finish opens out nicely. And I’ve got sticky sweet lips (1218 views) | | Tasted by Neras on 1/8/2022 & rated 91 points: Decanted for 2 hours. Very intense. Good stuffing but too early now. (1158 views) |

Port BlendOver a hundred varieties of grapes (castas) are sanctioned for port production, although only five (Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional) are widely cultivated and used. - Mayson (1999), Port and the Douro, p. 93
Guimaraens VintageIn years when Fonseca does not ‘declare’ a classic vintage, it selects the finest grapes from its own vineyards to yield a small quantity of this superb wine, which is produced exactly as a declared Fonseca Vintage. Beautifully structured and perfectly balanced, Guimaraens Vintage Ports show Fonseca’s superb marriage of power and breed in a slightly lighter, earlier-maturing style.Portugal ViniPortugal (Associação Interprofissional para a Promoção dos Vinhos Portugueses/Portuguese Wine Trade Association)Douro Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e PortoPorto For The Love of Port is an essential site on the wines of Porto and Madeira.
