Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 14 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ziavino on 2/7/2024 & rated 93 points: Off-dry, and much more unctuous than I'd expected. Notes of peach syrup, Gala apple, and honey coalesce throughout, with hints of tropical fruits weaving in. Acidity is also livelier than expected, and there's an almost Briess malt "huskiness" here that I can't quite describe. Loads of minerality too. Interesting and great. (290 views)
Tasted by Daltond333 on 10/2/2023: Pale gold. Yellow apple, peach, blossom, honeysuckle. Dry, medium minus acidity, medium body and alcohol. (357 views)
Tasted by Volleyball on 3/27/2022 & rated 90 points: Pulled this out to enjoy outside with some grilled Arctic char for the first outdoor lunch of the year.

At 14.5% ABV I was expecting a dry wine and was taken aback with the sweetness - it really seems Demi sec. It’s very nice though, with bright acidity, intense honeydew melon flavor, a big mouthfeel and quite a long finish.

I won’t buy it again as I rarely drink that style of wine. (801 views)
Tasted by CondorKhan on 2/9/2022 & rated 92 points: Huge, powerful sweet melon, peach, honey and musky flowers. It tastes pretty much intensely sweet until it somehow manages to snatch dryness from the jaws of sweetness, finishing with some slight phenolic bitterness and the Trimbach acidity you expect. Body is thick like motor oil.

Flirts perilously close to abandoning the Trimbach style.

Still, it's a wine of class and quality. Try it with some aged gouda, the sweetness subsides a bit and lets more complexity shine through. (784 views)
Tasted by Mario17 on 6/27/2021: Joli nez mais la bouche dominée par trop de sucre résiduel, du moins pour mon palais.

Nice nose but the palate is dominated by too much residual sugar for my palate. (1280 views)
Tasted by BouzyRouge on 2/13/2020: Clean and vibrant. Sweetness and smoke in the mid-palate. I like it but the dry finish (even at 15 g RS) doesn’t quite cohere. (1183 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 11/4/2019: Tasting at Maison Trimbach (Ribeauvillé, France): Deep yellow. Honey and crème brulée on the nose. Unctuous compared to the Rieslings, moderate sweetness, Golden Delicious sappy fruit, and an excellent acid core. Rich for the house, but enough balance and restraint to be very enjoyable. Pinot Gris

From Pinot Gris Wikipedia entry:
Wines made from the Pinot gris vary greatly and are dependent on the region and wine making style they are from. Alsatian Pinot gris are medium to full bodied wines with a rich, somewhat floral bouquet. They tend to be spicy in comparisons with other Pinot gris. While most Pinot gris are meant to be consumed early, Alsatian Pinot gris can age well. German Pinot gris are more full-bodied with a balance of acidity and slight sweetness. In Oregon the wines are medium bodied with a yellow to copper-pink color and aromas of pear, apple, and/or melon. In California, the Pinot gris are more light bodied with a crisp, refreshing taste with some pepper and arugula notes. The Pinot grigio style of Italy is a light-bodied, often lean wine that is light in color with sometimes spritzy flavors that can be crisp and acidic. Although this wine can be very sweet, it will begin to lose its acidity when it is nearly ripe.

Pinot gris is considered an "early to market wine" that can be bottled and out on the market within 4–12 weeks after fermentation.
