Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.7 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 12 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by bjbu on 4/6/2024 & rated 90 points: Intensity medium(+). Chamomile, orange peel, yellow apple, brown rock sugar, herbal. Acidity high. Finish medium(+) with a sharp edge. (83 views)
Tasted by oxwombat on 1/12/2024 & rated 91 points: Opened at Caprice in HK for the Jean Trimbach x Egon Muller Celebration Dinner by the winemakers themselves. Slow-oxed since 3pm and poured at around 10:20pm

Served from magnum and with the Duck - an example where the food definitely paired well with the wine and elevated it. Quite sweet on the nose, smelling somewhere between a Kabinett and a Spatlese, but closer to Kabinett on the palate. Fresh and lively with good acidity that helped to cut through the fat too. Better than the other wine served alongside this (Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre '15).

Probably slight upside, and good for a Pinot Gris. Interesting but unsure I'd seek out specifically. Again, props to Jean for pairing this with Duck, that worked really well. (487 views)
Tasted by skurtz on 11/23/2023 & rated 92 points: Full bodied white opened for Thanksgiving, great with turkey and all the fixings. Lots of citrus, melon on the nose and palate. Balanced acidity. 91/92 (423 views)
Tasted by Emil Oliver on 12/1/2022 & rated 91 points: Trying to understand the deal with PG, why it's central in the WSET2 syllabus etc. It's different from the other stuff I drink, I'll give it that, but it may be the least hip wine I've had.

Somewhat complex, but quite closed on the nose, some stone fruit and floral notes, hint of allspice. Mid minus acidity, med plus body, somewhat fatty mouthfeel. Touch of bitterness, then a long exit with a palette of yellow fruits and some spice.

There's definitely quality, I just don't particularly enjoy the style. It's probably the low acidity turns me off, gimme that GG or extra brut instead. Went well with Norwegian "rakfisk" (fermented fish), though. (993 views)
Tasted by bear on 7/30/2022 & rated 87 points: I was a bit disappointed. We drank this over 3 days - day 1 seemed like the wine was awkward and didn’t know what her her it was supposed to be a bracing wine or a more gentle, supple win. The result was only okay. On Day 2, the bracing taste was mellowed out and I thought I could understand what the wine was supposed to be, if only it had a little more time. Day 3 a meh, it was drinkable but over the hill. Maybe some more time in my cellar will resolve the issues. I hope so! (1058 views)
Tasted by skurtz on 11/27/2021 & rated 92 points: Lovely flowers on the nose, herbs. Intense stone fruit, asian pear on the palate, great heft, intensity, and mouthfeel, juicy but stone dry. Long clean finish. Paired with Thanksgiving leftovers. Still tasty on Day 2, with (more) leftover turkey and mashed potatoes. 91/92 (1254 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 10/31/2021 & rated 93 points: Light yellow towards white (slightly more colour than Trimbach Pinot Gris Reserve same year also tasted); rich sweet nose with some pineapple, a bit of sweetness; rounded rich creamy taste - quite different from the “normal” Trimbach PG (1042 views)
Tasted by beatles on 10/3/2021 & rated 91 points: Quite deep, smoky, intesting with some power and fine typicity. A food wine, certainly. (1654 views)
Tasted by Port & Cheese on 2/20/2021 & rated 91 points: Part of Yorkshire Wine School aromatics tasting.
Quiet floral, with stone fruit, slightly tropical. Went well with the pork and grinder dumplings, better with the food (816 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 9/4/2020 & rated 90 points: Floral, creamy, herbal, spicy on the nose. There is good freshness, a bit of residual sweetness, a little heavy. Nice length. 89-91 (1133 views)
Tasted by Andre Brattland on 4/8/2020 & rated 89 points: 100% Pinot Gris. 14% alcohol. The grapes come from Grand Cru Osterberg, one of the best vineyards in Alsace. The soil here is rocky with lime and clay over a sandy base. The vines are 25-30 years old. Réserve Personnelle is only produced this year with top grape quality. Grapes are harvested as late as possible to achieve maximum flavor and complexity.

Rich and quite masculine aroma of stone fruit, pear and deep salt minerality. Good full bodied wine with concentrated yellow fruits, flower, exotic spices and stems. Nice depth in the fruit. Quite powerful wine that will fit well with light meat dishes. 89 points. (1100 views)
Tasted by skurtz on 2/20/2020 & rated 91 points: Tasted at the winery. Intense aromas of honeysuckle, white stone fruit, some herbs and minerality too, nicely balanced with acid. Lingering finish. For me, this was one notch above the Pinot Gris Reserve, served before this in the tasting. Karen did not appreciate the difference. Hard to go wrong with either of these pinot gris reserves! Will benefit from some cellaring. (622 views)

Pinot Gris

From Pinot Gris Wikipedia entry:
Wines made from the Pinot gris vary greatly and are dependent on the region and wine making style they are from. Alsatian Pinot gris are medium to full bodied wines with a rich, somewhat floral bouquet. They tend to be spicy in comparisons with other Pinot gris. While most Pinot gris are meant to be consumed early, Alsatian Pinot gris can age well. German Pinot gris are more full-bodied with a balance of acidity and slight sweetness. In Oregon the wines are medium bodied with a yellow to copper-pink color and aromas of pear, apple, and/or melon. In California, the Pinot gris are more light bodied with a crisp, refreshing taste with some pepper and arugula notes. The Pinot grigio style of Italy is a light-bodied, often lean wine that is light in color with sometimes spritzy flavors that can be crisp and acidic. Although this wine can be very sweet, it will begin to lose its acidity when it is nearly ripe.

Pinot gris is considered an "early to market wine" that can be bottled and out on the market within 4–12 weeks after fermentation.
