Tasted by larrybbaldwin on 4/6/2024 & rated 94 points: Another brilliant bottle. Well integrated, balanced in perfect condition. Is it worth 100$? But I love it (170 views)
Tasted by Rieslingfan on 2/27/2024: I don’t have a ton of experience with Stony Hill Chardonnay, so not sure what to expect, but this was delicious in just about every way possible. Saline, fruity, slightly spicy, rich yet vibrant, and very long, it hit pretty much every note I could want. There’s plenty of freshness and depth for several more years of age, so my other bottle may sit a while just to see what happens with significant time. Glad to have a small stash of Stony Hill.  Tasted by MicklethePickle on 1/2/2022 & rated 89 points: A bit young (for a SH), but still showing well. Color surprisingly darker than I expected, though still only a medium yellow. No real legs in evidence. Light citrus/lemon, with a hint of cream. Excellent palate, with good fruit and full impression of fruit in the mouth. Has an excellent fruit/acid balance, and a nice long finish. 4-11-16-8: 89/100. (1615 views)
Tasted by smoothjazz on 12/7/2021 & rated 95 points: Perfect White Burgundy style Napa Chardonnay from an exceptional vintage. White wine doesn’t get much better than this. Sad to see that Stony Hill has now changed owners twice from original founders. Unfortunately, the big business owners have raised the price so high that the overall value (quality + price) is greatly diminished. (1359 views)
Tasted by sdwineguru on 7/17/2021 & rated 92 points: Napa, Spring Mountain District, 2016 Stony Hill Chardonnay ($54 in 2018). Similar to previous notes. Mid yellow gold; stone fruit, citrus, vanilla, light honey nose; medium-plus acids; medium body, alcohol (13.0); good Chardonnay fruit on the palate; stone fruit; long balanced deep finish. w/halibut. 17 UC Davis scale, 92 other scales.  Tasted by sdwineguru on 3/1/2021 & rated 92 points: Napa Chardonnay, 2016 Stony Hill, Spring Mountain District, $54 in 2018. Sharp mid-dark gold; classic SH nose; honey, peach, pineapple, light oak; mid-body; good acids; deep varietal character; long semi-lush finish (13.0 alc.). w/swordfish. 17 UC Davis scale, 92 other scales. (1604 views)
Tasted by smoothjazz on 12/26/2020 & rated 93 points: Iconic California Chardonnay made in the classic White Burgundy tradition; b one dry expressive minerality refined fruit and long finish. (1598 views)
Tasted by wgmccallum on 6/26/2019 & rated 93 points: Lees, lime, and figs on the nose. Cool depths of lemony fruit on the palate with a saline note and a bitter walnut lift at the back. Lovely summer aperitif wine. (1535 views)
Tasted by oldwines on 6/10/2019 & rated 93 points: Tasted at the winery. No Malo as in all Stony Hill whites. Pale yellow with a tinge of green. Nose has white florals, lemon citrus and what I sensed as light Asian spice like cardamom/turmeric. It has a rich slightly lemon oil texture and very bright acidity. Flavors include citrus, white peach and red apple. Medium long mineral finish. This wine is definitely in need of a good deal of time in the cellar. 5-10 years out in a good cellar and this could be 95pts in my view. (1552 views)
Tasted by wgmccallum on 10/22/2018 & rated 92 points: Characteristic Stony Hill peppery lees on the nose with a lemon top note. Solid core of fruit precisely delineated by crisp acid, well pitched bitter lift at the back moving into a lingering cobweb-clearing acid finish. 50 + 17 + 17 + 8 = 92. (2002 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 12/16/2017 & rated 86 points: Christmas walk around wine store tasting. No careful tasting notes possible.
Minimal to no oak perceived, no malolactic fermentation , minerals, peach pit, wet stones and finishes slightly sweet. (1982 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
