Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.9 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 24 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by swade on 7/15/2023: I converted three ladies from California chard to white burgundy with this bottle. Orchard fruit aroma. Light gold color. On the palate a lovely puff of white peach, a squeeze of citrus and a clean finish. Pernot delivers again. 90 (311 views)
Tasted by RichD2 on 10/7/2022 & rated 93 points: Excellent wine. Important to decant and drink 55-60 degrees F as the flavor comes out then. Might have had a higher rating if acidity had been higher. (542 views)
Tasted by acyso on 6/26/2021 & rated 88 points: Although I can be fairly tolerant of some oak in white Burgundy, I've never really come to grips with the oak use at Pernot (and Niellon for that matter). Both are excellent producers with great holdings, but they've always showed too much vanillin oak for me. This strikes me as a very old-school style of white Burgundy -- ripe and full with that intense lactoney oak, but the vintage provides good freshness here. Probably more interesting with time and if the oak fades out. (1668 views)
Tasted by jlm on 3/22/2021: Expressive nose with creamy citrus fruit, a chalky minerality, and a hint of oak spice. The palate is medium bodied and fresh, with mouth filling texture, and very good acidity. But the finish is a bit short, and it doesn't seem to have the depth of stronger vintages. A fine Puligny, but not one I expect to transcend its level. (900 views)
Tasted by Château de Farmer on 12/29/2019 & rated 90 points: Some electricity and great for a village level, but not fully worthy of the price tag. Lemon and apple pie. (1589 views)
Tasted by PMJak11 on 12/9/2019 & rated 93 points: Very nice! Needs age and air, but quite lovely. (1306 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 11/3/2019: Knightsbridge Annual Holiday Burgundy/Champagne Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL): Walk around tasting. Apple, pear, peach brings together good richness with mineral textures. Good now, but certainly better in another year or two. (2196 views)
Tasted by Tim2 on 10/13/2019 & rated 90 points: Nice with bouillabaisse (981 views)
Tasted by Tim2 on 10/6/2019 & rated 89 points: With the right companion to share this bottle, it scores well ahead of its score. (875 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 9/9/2019 & rated 88 points: Fine Vines Fall 2019 Portfolio Tasting (City Winery - Chicago IL): Walk-around tasting, brief note. Apple and baked apple character starts off a s ripe and rich, then gets more texturally interesting and nuanced from its middle forward. Very good Villages level. (1612 views)
Tasted by srh on 8/17/2019: White Burgundies [2-‘16s & 4-‘17s] (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Slightly closed; Minerals, lemons; Intensity lurking?

P: LM body; Very RNDISH entry with very NICE, ALMOST swtish frt very invitingly offset by an acidity which transitions into a LONG, tangy finish with HINTS of swtness to come. NEEDS a yr or so, then drinking through '23. 13.5% ABV; My EXC-. 88-91 pts Vinous (Tanzer) & 16/20 Jancis Robinson. [This vendor's $56.95 puts it in the top of the 2nd 1/2 of wine-searcher's postings.]

Note: Also tasted on 2/16 & 4/13/19 (793 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 7/25/2019: So so pure in its limestone character and taste. (870 views)
Tasted by OaktownRush on 7/20/2019 & rated 91 points: Some earthy mineralirty, subtle baking spice, along with citrus and maybe some stone fruit. The nose and palate are somewhat symphonic in that nothing really comes above the fold -- it's well integrated, but isn't one of my favorite Montrachets I've had. (527 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 6/8/2019: Thats quite. (718 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 5/30/2019: THat is delcious. (812 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 5/23/2019: Such limestoniness on the nose. So elegant. All on the stone savory side but so good. (707 views)
Tasted by srh on 4/13/2019: White Burgundies [1-'15, 3-'16s, & 2-'17s] (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Slightly closed; Pineapple atop toast? Intensity lurking?

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish oak/frt firmed by a tangy acidity which is the face of the wine into & through the LONG, tangy finish with hints of upcoming (honied?) swtness. Tight now, NEEDS through '19, then drinking for 3-4 yrs more. 13.5% ABV; My EXC-/EXC. 88-91 pts Vinous (Tanzer). [This vendor's $56.95 puts it in the top of the 2nd 1/2 of wine-searcher's postings.] (771 views)
Tasted by srh on 2/16/2019: Winebar [4 Whites, 8 Reds, & 3 *shared* bottles] from 02/15/19 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Closed; Lemons, poss pineapple?

P: Med body; RNDISH entry wit NICE frt met by a very, VERY slightly astringent, almost puckerish, acidity which slowly loosens its grip as it morphs into the LONG, ULT "just" tangy/swt (as opposed to puckerish) finish with the barest HINT of honey? NEEDS through '19, poss '20, to unwind, then drinking for 4 yrs more? Everything SEEMS in place, however. 13.5% ABV; My EXC-/EXC. 88-91 pts Vinous (Tanzer). [This vendor's $56.95 puts it in the top of the 2nd 1/2 of wine-searcher's postings.] (742 views)
Tasted by jtsejersen@gmail.com on 2/1/2019 & rated 89 points: Uhmm.... This just taste really good - but also a heavy price tag. And in my opinion too pricy. Second wine I taste from Paul Pernot - and even though his wines are pricy we're also dealing with a winemaker who clearly knows his "shit". Everything about this wine just solid and well-done. Deep and intense nose with tropical fruit, butter, hazzelnut and just a little smokey-action. The taste is somewhat complex with layers of acidity and sweetness all wrapped in a beautiful and creamy mouthfeel. (71 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 1/9/2019 & rated 90 points: Fresh and precise, good fruit, some minerality. Very well balanced, vibrant with good length. 89-90+ (877 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/25/2018: Paul Pernot Cellar Visit, Tasting 2017s (Day 2, Visit 1) (Puligny-Montrachet): Tasting at the domaine. Subtle floral start with ripe apple and pear throughout. Most restrained at the start, then richer middle through finish. Very good Villages. very good now. Being bottled next week. (1155 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 1/24/2018: Very open right now and pure puligny. Lots of power on the nose. A different mix here that the 2016 vintage. More right in the heat of puligny elimabtingnthe northern and Southern vineyard from 2016. Three in the middle. Fresh fruit and good acidity. Lovely and creamy. (878 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
