Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.7 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 31 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by kim@meko.ru on 3/28/2024: Not amusing))
Austere nose, bare trace of yellow fruits, some kind of reduction note (gunpowder), low acidity. Didn’t develop even after 1 hour in decanter.
Very strange, maybe off bottle. (345 views)
Tasted by shifter on 7/17/2023: Double decant. Incredibly tight and unyielding. Needs lots of air. After an hour decant it really blossomed. Still tense but with a great balance. Nice mouthfeel for a village. So good for $60. (961 views)
Tasted by tonyhuang on 2/14/2023 & rated 88 points: high heat, slightly disjoint body and not enough fruit. Sub par compared to what I had from his other offering. Can be an off bottle. (733 views)
Tasted by BCJ99 on 1/28/2023 flawed bottle: Something weird going on, not corked, showing notes of premature oxidation, but changes a lot while tasting over time (1174 views)
Tasted by d'Artagnan on 12/24/2022 & rated 89 points: Un vin souple et bien équilibré, pas très tendu. C’est fin, digeste, mais il manque de profondeur. 89 pts (1398 views)
Tasted by jhw425 on 5/8/2022 & rated 92 points: Really good. Singing after 1 hour. Perfect wine with the Mallman BreadCrumb Tuna dish (1610 views)
Tasted by SoundinBetween on 3/10/2022: From half bottle. Showed best with 2 hour decant ahead of dinner, classic somewhat-lush Chassagne with fresh lime zest, white flowers, white peach, and broad mouthfeel. More richness than expected for a village wine, and a lengthy finish. Overperforming as usual! (1480 views)
Tasted by steinersing on 10/16/2021 & rated 90 points: Good village wine. A little reduction. Great acidity, clean. Opening up a little with time. (2000 views)
Tasted by B Paul on 9/20/2021: A little reduction. Lots of body and intensity for a village wine. Needed some air to really get going but very good. (1803 views)
Tasted by rc@ughey on 9/8/2021 & rated 93 points: Same as prior note. Reference-quality Chassagne AOC. Particularly encouraging after my disappointment with '16 chez Ramonet. (1939 views)
Tasted by jhw425 on 9/6/2021 & rated 90 points: Subtle but very enjoyable. May be peaking into a more closed period (1319 views)
Tasted by rc@ughey on 1/22/2021 & rated 93 points: This is a sensational Chassagne AOC, with concentrated fruit and impeccable balance. I've recently been disappointed with '15 and '16 Ramonets, but if this is an indication, '17 is dynamite (like '14 was). (2257 views)
Tasted by jhw425 on 11/14/2020 & rated 90 points: Wait till 2022 for next bottle (1726 views)
Tasted by jamescho on 10/8/2020 & rated 91 points: 10/8/2020 9:31:00 PM - Preferred Bourgogne Blanc as a Ramonet Chassagne Montrachet.
I like it's feel, complexity, finish.
It's usually good to drink any time, any place.
Very easy, acceptable and good harmony with any plates.
Thanks to this characters, I recommend this on any situations.
Specially with Ramen is great marriage. (1739 views)
Tasted by torsteinbjoergen on 9/26/2020: Jean Claude Ramonet Chassagne Montrachet 2017
Medium straw, thin watery rim. Clear

On the nose medium intense and medium complexity. Aromas of browned butter, toast, nutts, some distant greens like ruccola. Lemon peel

Palate is dry with medium acidity. Medium length, medium body. Aromas are somehow dissapointing. Some apples but mostly driven by lemon and some bitterness with almost an alcoholic sting. This wine clearly lacks complexity to fit my taste. Considering the price is the wine a little dissapointing.

This is a very good wine, but a tiny little unbalanced. The length and intensity is medium. The concentration is medium and the complexity aint low, but i would have wanted some more out of this wine.

Tasted by jhw425 on 5/30/2020 & rated 91 points: ElPaninaro’s note below is spot on. Powerful wine but basically clear as water (2127 views)
Tasted by Elpaninaro on 5/25/2020: bright pale lemon color, beautiful broad nose with cream already in full cry, melon, mint, sweet limes, almost the full tropical array of a very ripe vintage yet still with the sleek cut that is a hallmark of Ramonet, on the palate much the same- rich medium bodied fruit with opulent notes of melon and mango but also wonderfully tense underlying lemon and lime fruits, crisp green apple note, fine depth and creamy textures already partially developed, fine long fragrant finish with lively lime-coated acids, with time a bit of honeysuckle as well, 2014 was a benchmark year for Ramonet IMHO and this first experience with the 2017 Chassagne A.C. suggests 2017 may be a vintage of at least equal quality but also a rare example of a vintage where you get a nice display of the best of both worlds- meaning lean vs fat vintages. Sadly- between international demand and now the 25% tariffs, there is going to be some serious sticker shock for US buyers. But most of that pain is coming at the top end of the range- and given the sheer quality of this Chassagne A.C. it seems likely that the premier crus will be sufficiently outstanding to ease the pain for those of us who will be cutting back significantly on the grand crus this year. I have been enjoying Ramonet since the 1993 vintage and this is about as fine a Chassagne A.C. as I have ever had from this deservedly famous Domaine. I look forward to opening a premier cru or two in the coming months.

**(*)+, now to 2032. (2128 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 2/14/2020: Plenty of struck match to the aroma along with green melon and white peach. It is generous and full with perfumed orchard fruits. It has elegance and a gentleness in the mouth yet lacks no presence or depth. It finishes fresh and has excellent length for its level. (2013 views)
Tasted by Sleepy Dave on 11/6/2019: - A bit tight on the nose but with high maturity on the palate, a little shy.

- With air the ripe yellow fruits and flower note emerged. A bit sweet on the entry, nice weight on the palate, could have mistaken this as an entry 1er Cru. Energetic, saline with good length. Youthful and will benefit with bottle aging. (1714 views)
Tasted by dvansteenderen on 9/18/2019 & rated 90 points: Pre-tasting to bring to the Weinversteigerung in Trier tomorrow. The nose gives the classic Ramonet spearmint, but also roasted nuts and oak. The palate is very "fatty" for just a village wine while retaining balance and freshness. Should provide great drinking pleasure for all! (1931 views)
Tasted by Barry Rothof on 4/15/2019 & rated 91 points: Nutty, smokey and savoury with delicious citrus flavours! (1499 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 4/15/2019: Les Gobeloteurs Tasting (Domaine Stéphane Ogier - Ampuis): Tasting, brief note.Fleshy and rich apple and pear with wonderful weight and length for its level. Subtle background spice hints. Great balance, this will drink wonderfully right out of the gate. 88-90 point potential. (2584 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
