| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 23 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Jmb4263 on 11/16/2014 & rated 90 points: Tasted with a '08 and '13. Fruit is beginning to fall off but still some acidity. Very interesting to see how this wine is evolved. 91!pts (2900 views) | | Tasted by Life At Your Leisure 🍷 on 6/21/2012 & rated 94 points: Tasted this with Spottswoode CEO, Beth Novak, during a wine tasting event. This has taken on substantial weight and concentration compared to the 2011. The density makes it harder to break down the flavors, but from the onset you could trace flavors of grapefruit, apricot, honeydew melon, lemongrass and lime. Quite heavier and lengthier compared to the 2011. Just beautiful. Drink now through 2016. Grass poked through a nose of fuel, woodpile and moss. Palate: Relieved when this was so nice in the mouth. Great mouthfeel with Meyer Lemon, Melon, Grass and Stone notes coming through. Round with a hint of vanilla and acid still showing. Finish: Nice finish not long, but full of lemon oil and stone/mineral. (3604 views) | | Tasted by Bakek on 7/7/2010 & rated 89 points: Nice sauvignon blanc. Didn't knock my socks off for a Spottswoode. More grassy than citrusy. (3622 views) | | Tasted by buckeye76 on 12/6/2009 & rated 92 points: CITRUS, APPLES, AND STRAW IN THE NOSE WITH CITRUS FLAVORS, NICE COMPLEXITY AND A MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH. (2188 views) | | Tasted by davidspieker on 8/18/2008 & rated 89 points: Pale, light color. Grapefruit, lemon, and melon flavors with full body. (2387 views) | | Tasted by scottj on 7/19/2008 & rated 90 points: Very nice, but probably served a bit too warm (cellar termperature). Great aroma and fruit on the palate, showing a bit of the citrus and grassiness, but much less than the typical CA Sauvignon Blanc. Rich and medium bodied, but lacking some of the crispness I'd expect, thus my comment about serving temperature. I think it would show better served a little chilled. Still a delightful wine ... (2214 views) | | Tasted by rmalloy on 6/27/2008 & rated 91 points: Many sauvignon blancs--particularly those of New Zealand--are prized for their biting acidity and sharp vegetal notes. This Spottswoode wine is in between those sharp New Zealand sauvignon blancs and a chardonnay. The grassy and green-apple undertones are present, but nicely balanced by round melon and creamy oak, and a moderate minerality. There is a small amount of semillon in this wine, which I think adds noticeable body. Very good. (2350 views) | | Tasted by Ki Punwar on 6/16/2008 & rated 91 points: Very light in color, I tend to like this wine every vintage-think this is better that the past few that Spottswoode has made. Aromas of melon, lemon zest and a very pleaasant aftertaste...it was perfect on a hot day by the pool. (2245 views) | | Tasted by rsepulve on 5/1/2008 & rated 88 points: Pale golden color. Lychee, grapefruit, pineapple and subtle mineral notes. Good zingy acidity. Everything was in the right place with this wine but I just couldn't get excited. Not sure why. (2346 views) | | Tasted by sevo on 4/15/2008 & rated 92 points: I have purchased the Spottswoode white for several years, this is definitely my favorite thus far. Upon opening this bottle, I detected a quite familiar note. Finally, I realized the wonderful aroma. This reminds me of lychee gel candy I use to purchase at the Vietnamese grocer. The tremendous smell is quite a treat. In addition to the lychee, there is grapefruit, so common to this varietal. Also , I detect a faint white pineapple aroma. The acidity in this sauvignon blanc is not overwhelming. This is a great effort. (2543 views) | | Tasted by BlakeWarnerWine on 4/5/2008 & rated 92 points: Very crisp and not too much grapefruit. (2687 views) | | Tasted by rothdog on 12/5/2007 & rated 93 points: Crisp and tropical. Straw colored with hints of grapefruit, melons, honeysuckle, peaches and vanilla. Nice weight for a Sauvignon Blanc, but still balanced with underlying minerality and acidity. Finshes long. Maturing very nicely. If you like SB you will love this wine. Spottswoode is really one of the best SB's from the Napa Valley.(93+ pts.) (2866 views) |

| Spottswoode Producer websiteSauvignon Blanc Varietal CharacterUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson North CoastThe North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California, covering more than three million acres, includes Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, and portions of Marin and Solano counties.
