Tasted by Cuellar's Cellar on 5/1/2024 & rated 92 points: Love this wine. A nice classic sauv blanc. Just a bright, crisp wine that opens up your pallet. Cheers (355 views)
Tasted by SWHighlander on 4/26/2024 & rated 94 points: I don't drink a lot of New World whites, especially sauv blanc, but this is the best I've had in years. No grassiness or cat pee, which is a positive for me. It has a mineral forward presentation with a touch of oiliness and body from the 2% semillion that gives it an Old World-meets-New character. Medium bodied. The fruit is grapefruit and melon maybe subtle stone fruit -- not really any tropicals. It has a steeliness to it from the stainless steel aging.

Paired amazingly with a scallop sashimi served with a touch of thin sliced kumquat, fresno chile, asian pear granita, and avocado cream. (254 views)
Tasted by RJWallis on 4/23/2024 & rated 93 points: Notes of freshly cut grass and pineapple, PnP, very tasty. (305 views)
Tasted by BettyBuzz on 4/11/2024 & rated 92 points: Tried the 2022 Spottswoode at a dinner party along with the new Vinum Dei SB. Overall preferred the Vinum Dei, but always love the Spottswoode.
This '22 Spottswoode is a zesty little number that makes my taste buds do a happy dance! Vibrant, with great aromas of grapefruit zest, freshly mowed lawn, and lemongrass. On the palate, it's a fruit salad of lime, green apple, and passionfruit flavors, backed by a brilliant zinginess. Plenty of racy concentration, while still being an elegant, lifted style. Fermented in a mix of stainless and neutral oak, there's no buttery or oaky business here. One of the best Napa SB's. (416 views)
Tasted by Thomas D on 4/7/2024 & rated 92 points: enjoyed it again with findings same as per previous note. (498 views)
Tasted by streethawk on 12/9/2023: What a delight, and so consistent in quality from vintage to vintage. Peach and stone fruit aromas, and a herbal element. The palate is beautifully textured with refreshing acidity. Restrained and balanced. I would gladly drink this on its own. It’s easy to see why the whites were Mary Weber Novak’s favourite Spottswoode wines. (1197 views)
Tasted by Thomas D on 11/22/2023 & rated 92 points: clean light yellow golden color; pleasant powerful nose of lime, juniper and grass; well balanced with acidity restrained for a sauvignon blanc ; nice mouth feel; delicious citrus fruit and grassy flavors. Very engaging. (807 views)
Tasted by grub94 on 11/22/2023 & rated 91 points: Classic SB, plenty of lemon, stone fruit, grass. A little more weight on the palate than I expect from an SB. Plenty of fresh acidity and longish finish. Nice to see this acidity after the 2019 was showing less than usual. (719 views)
Tasted by Lord of the Bottles on 9/15/2023 & rated 91 points: Spottswoode Tasting in London: This was suprisingly good, light and refreshing but with decent lime and stone fruit and a soft, velvety texture. Drinks more like Loire than waxy BDX Blanc. 91-92 (1279 views)
Tasted by Philip67 on 9/14/2023 & rated 90 points: Fresh, good texture, some oak. Overall this has some complexity and is an interesting wine. (871 views)
Tasted by mklasing on 8/8/2023 & rated 93 points: Absolutely excellent! When considering price and citrus flavor, acidity and nose, probably rating it too low. (832 views)
Tasted by michael47 on 7/26/2023 & rated 92 points: Crisp and delicious. Melons, apple, citrus with a hint of fresh cut grass. Juicy with lovely mouthfeel. (707 views)
Tasted by Cuellar's Cellar on 7/25/2023 & rated 92 points: Really good wine. Great starter wine. :) (814 views)

Varietal Character

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

North Coast

The North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California, covering more than three million acres, includes Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, and portions of Marin and Solano counties. (see The Wine Institute for more information)
