Tasted by nzinkgraf on 3/1/2014: Dutton Ranch 05 Chard
Vanilla, whipped cream. Not even any real signs of age. Not nutty. This is some amazing acid for RRV, better acid than my last experience. Tree fruit palate. Not anywhere near the tropics. Floral and some fading oak expression. Lovely complexity. I wasn't expecting this wine to be in such good shape. At Hinterland with Elizabeth and the 'rents. Has an orange zest and sparkly mint oil/ mineral, glitter edge. Drink to 2020 at least. (1049 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 1/4/2010: this drink is making me rethink the last note. let this wine ride it out. fabulous tonight. medium acid and the oak on the palate is slowly fading into dried floral notes, but still provides quite the textural notes across the finish. the acid again shows to be the ringer for cali or australia. such a subtle vanilla note on the palate. pear fruit is so beautiful and the finish just soars tonight. this wine is in serious harmony this evening.  Tasted by andrewnyc on 8/8/2009 & rated 92 points: Terrific bottle of chardonnay. In perfect balance between fruit and acidity/minerality. Not overly-oaked, just enough to add a creamy richness to the overall flavour. Probably the best american chardonnay I have drunk. (2466 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 2/23/2009: Sunday dinner at Van Rite's (Milwaukee): wonderful creamy nose and palate. pineapple all over this one. the acidity seems in just the right spot, but i can't see this one hanging on much past the next two years. so easy to consume. (2819 views)
Tasted by Jack on 2/18/2009 & rated 91 points: Again, big time crowd pleaser. Very light oak shows up barely on the finish. East to drink. Not very complex. (2600 views)
Tasted by aof on 9/14/2008 & rated 92 points: lovely, complex. (1912 views)
Tasted by Winetree on 10/27/2007: In the nose the classic lemon cream pie jumps out, with overtones of caraway seed, ginger and a touch of tangerine. In the mouth its core of citrus fruit and bright acid is nestled in a setting of creamy ginger spice that provides a beautiful balance and lingering finish. This is a wine of great versatility: enjoy it as an aperitif, or with rich and creamy foods that benefit from a focused, refreshing counterpoint. (1693 views)
Tasted by Jack on 10/21/2007 & rated 93 points: Taste of the Vine 10/21 (Kierland): Wow- what a great way to end the tasting. This is a big time crowd pleaser and I'm not much of a chard drinker. It may be a little simple but it sure makes up for that with some sweet fruit. (2957 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
