Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 109 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Paul Lin on 5/13/2020 & rated 91 points: Plush aromas of blueberry, violets, and cocoa. Silky palate with notes of blueberry and boysenberry, followed by a hint of graphite and wood. Really fresh for its age, but not syrupy at all. Impressive. (1182 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 7/28/2019 & rated 91 points: Enjoyed by all. Perhaps a bit pricy but a very nice Shiraz. (1345 views)
Tasted by mhellyer65 on 4/10/2019 & rated 85 points: Very smooth full flavoured red. No sign of degradation. Perfect with blue cheese! (1502 views)
Tasted by mhudes on 8/18/2018 & rated 93 points: With Estie at Martino's in Ashland Oregon. PnP. Dark red in color. Nose of violets and blackberies. More dark berries on the palate along with cassis. Smooth, tannin seems completely resolved, with some herb, mineral complexity in the background. Excellent finish. I've had different vintages of this over the past few years (all pretty good), but I believe this may be the best bottle yet. Food was just okay, but the wine was superb. (1659 views)
Tasted by Mossrose on 1/14/2018 & rated 94 points: The best this 2006 has every been. Pitch black, intensely fruity, rich, lush, delicious, wonderfully integrated and seamless, and well structured by refreshing acidity and firm tannin. Kept open and retasted over 6 days with no deterioration. . The darkest wine on the table and supremely good with meat dishes. (99 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 5/30/2017 & rated 91 points: Keeps getting better. Worth the price and above. (1718 views)
Tasted by Cikgoo on 5/13/2017 & rated 93 points: Very jammy with fruits and spice. Drinking at its peak (1570 views)
Tasted by cawineaux on 3/26/2017 & rated 92 points: Unlike the last bottle in 2015, no jam here. 11 year old screw top is doing just fine. (1655 views)
Tasted by bdeblank on 3/12/2017 & rated 93 points: 10 years in and still very big and primary. Strong fruit up front, alcohol has receded. Lingering finish but nothing secondary. Seems like it could effortlessly go another 10 years. (1587 views)
Tasted by starrynight on 1/24/2017 & rated 89 points: We had 3 magnums - all were still a bit tannic, so a few more years would probably be in order (1455 views)
Tasted by John McCabe on 3/15/2016 & rated 93 points: Great shiraz, bold, dramatic, but also a little relaxed after a few years of bottle age. At its prime now. More of a food wine. (1807 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 2/12/2016 & rated 91 points: Another good performance. (1507 views)
Tasted by Mossrose on 12/25/2015 & rated 95 points: Opened this 2006 Jimmy Section to taste against the 2012 Jimmy. The 2006 was made by the previous owner of Oliverhill and the 2012 by the new owners. The 2006 exceeds even the high expectations we had, blew away the very good 2012, and is a strong candidate for the best wine made Oliverhill in the last 15 years. Black colored liquid silk. Deep, complex, and delicious fruit accented by smoked meat. Perfectly integrated tannin, acidity, and French oak. By far the tastiest food match of 8 wines sipped with a dinner featuring oxtail soup and grape leaves stuffed with ground lamb. (51 views)
Tasted by John McCabe on 4/16/2015 & rated 93 points: Full-bodied, lively, excellent fruit, a little spice. This is a fun Shiraz that's now firing on all cylinders. (2191 views)
Tasted by cawineaux on 1/11/2015: Decant for at least two hours. Appearance shows no sign of age. Inky purple, deep red. The nose, however, shows a bit of tar, then after some time the tar disappears and plum, baked cherries, and the slightest amount of alcohol appear. The palate was not overly complex, but it was awesome to think an 8 year old $25 screwtop was this amazing. (2088 views)
Tasted by vinodolphin on 9/19/2014 & rated 90 points: Drinking well but I think that this will be better in a year or so. (1797 views)
Tasted by mchiew on 7/10/2014 & rated 90 points: pop and breathed for a shortwhile. it is in good drinking window now, red fruits, fine tannin and good balanced. (2095 views)
Tasted by urban_dk on 6/8/2014 & rated 90 points: Compared with last bottle, this appears to be in a bit of a dumb phase right now. Predominant blueberry flavor with a bit of baking spice. Needs way more time in the cellar to show its true potential. (1931 views)
Tasted by bdeblank on 4/25/2014 & rated 92 points: Pop and pour. At a very nice spot. Still plenty of fruit. Dark color, but lighter at rim. Good mouthfeel. Coats the palate. Probably could wait a couple more years but why? (1763 views)
Tasted by pkatz on 12/22/2013 & rated 92 points: Showing a bit of age but quite delicious. Consistent with previous notes. (1724 views)
Tasted by ICaWineGuy on 9/25/2013 & rated 90 points: Ok, this one is more like my first bottle. Notes on day 2. Blueberry, toasty oak, black pepper, black cherry. Also see notes from a year ago. (1629 views)
Tasted by Peter DK on 6/11/2013 & rated 93 points: Smell: Ripe red fruits (red currant/raspberries). Pepper and flowers with a hint of licorice as the wine emerges in the glass. Taste: Solid structure but straight, slightly dry dark and complex taste of shiraz grapes. (1710 views)
Tasted by ICaWineGuy on 5/12/2013 & rated 86 points: I rember really liking a previous bottle, but this one did not live up to those expectations. Not sure if it was cooked before I got it, but with a screw top here was no cork to inspect. Anyway, it was flat and most of the shiraz berry that I like so much was gone. I'll pop one of my other two bottles soon and check it out. (1611 views)
Tasted by kietkopelli on 5/11/2013 & rated 91 points: An additional 4 years in the bottle really did this wine a lot of good. The fruit is still pure and dense but the alcohol on the nose subsided a whole lot. Peppers also toned done in the mid palate leaving this wine to go up against the $60-90 Ausie Shiraz. Finishes mid and moderately long but I don't drink these types of wines for the finish.

Well worth the $27 I paid for this 5 years ago. (1577 views)
Tasted by redz on 4/27/2013 & rated 91 points: Deep purple, dark berry nose, smooth long finish. Couple hours decant recommended (1405 views)
