Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.7 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 7 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Styrk on 1/15/2024 & rated 91 points: Delicious. Started to really show itself after after 7-8 hours of air. (191 views)
(410 views)
Tasted by AlphaMikeFoxtrot on 5/26/2023 & rated 89 points: Oxidative style Savagnin. Decanted for an hour and drank in Mazatlán at dinner.

Green almonds, walnuts, bitter pears, fresh quince, fresh yellow apple, dry caramel on the nose. The palate is completely consistent with the aromas. A long, lingering nutty finish is probably the best part of this. The intensity of both flavors and aromas is high - almost too high because it really overpowers any kind of food with which you could try to pair this.

Full bodied with medium acid. Feels more alcoholic than 13%. Tried to pair it with a filet of snapper; but probably best to have it with something like nutty cheese...or just by itself. (372 views)
Tasted by PMJak11 on 5/15/2022 & rated 90 points: Unique. Medium gold color. Initially tastes oxidized but after 20 minutes it opens up nicely. Honey, mango, stone fruit, and pineapple. Medium plus depth with decent acid. Not something I would have frequently but a very nice change of pace. (577 views)
Tasted by Elycohn on 2/20/2022 & rated 94 points: Sensational. In both the literal and traditiional senses. And this is all about senses. Cerebral switch flicker. Vin-neutropic. You can let it breathe for a week at room temp and it won't give an inch.

The aromas are beautifully saturated with oxidized notes. Honey butterscotch, beeswax and Kentucky bourbon. Tropical notes. Papaya apricot. Floral stuff. Violets, white jasmine. And the chemical residue of a new leather handbag.

It tastes hot, but its only 12.5%. Finish powerful and long to completely exhaust your neurons. (712 views)
Tasted by james05500 on 10/12/2021 & rated 91 points: Great concentratioj, fresh acidity and these wonderful notes coming from under flor ageing! Wallnuts, dried fruits! Great wine! (540 views)

Jura

A petite and relatively obscure wine region in eastern France, between Burgundy and the Swiss border. Its geographical isolation has helped it to remain a rare bastion of traditional winemaking techniques, and today it produces some of the most distinctive wines in the world. Reds from the Jura are often light-bodied, earthy, berried, and reminiscent of the village wines of Burgundy (though here they are made of local grapes like Poulsard and Trousseau). While Chardonnay features widely, the true specialty of the region is the Vin Jaune (“yellow wine”) made from the white Savagnin grape. Cloudy, difficult Vin Jaune is made only in the best vintages, and must be aged for at least six years before being released. As it ages under a layer of yeast, known locally as “voile,” the wine slowly oxidizes, leading to complex aromas and flavors that range from walnut skin to sultana to spices and truffles. Famously long lived it is always sold in dumpy 62 cl bottle - the wine lost in production having been taken by les anges.
