Tasted by Junior1961 on 2/10/2024 & rated 95 points: Ready to drink. Elegant and with terciary aromas. Tobacco, smoke, balsamic. (170 views)
Tasted by ne bis in idem on 12/11/2023 & rated 88 points: Tastet after short decant: blueberry, above those herbal notes, later black cherry and licorice, medium tanic and length on the palate. For a wine from a small chateaux and a small year very pleasent, will keep a couple of years like this but no further devolepement. Suited well with lamb, not strong enough for ripe cheese. (184 views)
Tasted by Junior1961 on 9/5/2023 & rated 92 points: Ready to drink. Light Bordeaux color, medium intensity. Earthy aromas, spices, blood and lead pencil. Dried figs and prunes. Dusty. Light toast. The same at the palate. Acidity at good level. No feeling of alcohol. Drink now. (336 views)
Tasted by Lady Chatelaine on 12/6/2022 & rated 88 points: Easy going, versatile enough to be paired with all kind of dishes
Typical Moulis
I think it's time to drink it...beyond 2027 might be too late (724 views)
Tasted by Schönibert on 2/26/2022 & rated 88 points: Diese Flasche wirkt etwas alt, ein kleineres Glas hilft ihm aber auf die Sprünge und die roten Früchte drängen sich wieder in den Vordergrund. (1137 views)
Tasted by Schönibert on 10/31/2021: Absolut solider Medoc, jahrgangsbedingt keine allzugroßen Erwartungen und groß ist hier auch nichts aber sehr erfreulich trinkbar. (1198 views)
Tasted by The Hero on 8/30/2020 & rated 92 points: Quite a lovely balanced wine. Still at it’s peak for another couple of years I expect. (1830 views)
Tasted by MagicMNJ on 8/22/2020 & rated 92 points: pencil in the nose (1862 views)
Tasted by mike410 on 4/21/2020 & rated 89 points: Ok for the vintage. Lacking fruit to give this a higher score, but it was well balanced and at its peak. (1711 views)
Tasted by Krisvandaele on 10/19/2019: Top wijn. Heel goed op dronk (1569 views)
Tasted by bons vinhos on 8/12/2018 & rated 86 points: It shows the difficult vintage...drink it up,let it breathe for at least 2 hours. (2513 views)
Tasted by philippe.troesch on 5/19/2018 & rated 95 points: Kat was very exited about this wine (2066 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 5/21/2017 & rated 90 points: Deep dark center, red rim with some signs of age.
Sweet briar nose, darker fruits - blackberries, black plums, toasty, rubbing tobacco and oily black olives.
Dry and sweet, mixed berries, toasty, creamy, touch of greenness, good length.
Much better than expected, surprising sweetness and fruit given the vintage, drinks very well now but will last a couple more years at least. (3057 views)
Tasted by apmarques on 9/30/2016 & rated 88 points: Great. Right timing (3472 views)
Tasted by OW_SOSPEL on 8/17/2016 & rated 87 points: Brillant, limpide, grenat profond, ocelle aqueuse, assez lourd, larmes fines, rapides et fréquentes.
(3455 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 4/18/2016 & rated 87 points: Weekly tasting group #210; Bordeaux: the lesser gods. (@ WW): Bouquet with creamy dark berries, caramel and some smoke. On the palate creamy red and dark berries, chocolate, a bit dusty, medium plus acidity and slightly sticky tannin. Not a bad wine, but disappointing for Chasse Spleen. Early maturity stage now. Maybe a few more years of bottle ageing will help. (3684 views)
Tasted by EhrlichDY on 3/22/2016 & rated 84 points: Really pretty nose with prominent scents of dark fruit and earthy aromas. Unfortunately, this falls apart a bit on the palate. More dark fruit but this is a bit too rustic and a bit sour or underripe. It just feels like the fruit didn't ripen enough and its lacking density. Perhaps a success for the vintage and an okay wine bit nothing I'd seek out. (3174 views)
Tasted by Stefanos T. on 2/19/2016 & rated 91 points: Nice Bordeaux with an emphasis on the fruity side.
Black forest berry fruit with some cedar notes.
Medium bodied and flavorful with soft tannins and an pronounced bitter finish.
Quite enjoyable. (2459 views)
Tasted by Lilja on 1/11/2015 & rated 90 points: This is a lot better than I expected (due to the awful 2007 vintage). When popped the nose is a bit funky with wet dog and plaster. Given some time in the decanter it turns into quite a lovely wine. Classic nose dominated by the greeness of C. franc but also a bit of earth, burnt tar, slight perfume and red berry yoghurt. Surprisingly low acidity (medium(--)) but with good fruit and balance. Good intensity and length. Slightly bitter finish. Wouldn't call this thin, but it is absolutely a fairly slender wine. Good value for 30$. Would keep for too long, lacking the acidity. (3296 views)
Tasted by OW_SOSPEL on 8/22/2014 & rated 80 points: Jolie teinte grenat, brillant, ocelle légèrement orangée.
Empyreumatique. (2953 views)
Tasted by Stefanos T. on 7/6/2014 & rated 89 points: Nose of medium intensity with aromas of cedar and macerated blackeberry fruit along some oak notes.
Palate of medium intensity, lean with flavors of cedar tart red berry fruit and and a nice bitter finish.
Lacks some concentration while being still young and capable of further development. (3566 views)
Tasted by RobertWinesWeLove on 4/13/2014 & rated 87 points: This is a lovely light-weight, elegant Bordeaux. Good tanninstructure and fresh fruit. Evolve during the night. Should have bought more. 3 NJP

Tasted by Yagil on 1/30/2014 & rated 88 points: Bordeaux Cru Bourgeois tasting (Wine-Route, Tel-Aviv): color: dark red-black
nose: quality mature ripe dark fruits aromas, roasted coffee & tobacco notes
palate: full bodied, firm & round tannins, high acidity level, good harmony, rich dark mature dark fruits flavours, roasted coffee flavours, long finish.
ready to drink and enjoyable. (4643 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/18/2013 & rated 87 points: Creamy and somewhat sweet bouquet with cassis as well. On the palate red as well as dark fruits. Quite much sweetness, some anise and round and soft tannin. Early maturity now. 87-88 (3383 views)
Tasted by rabaudpromis on 5/6/2013: Blind tasted after 2 hours of opening and among other wines from different regions / countries.

This is unbelievable. Have we tasted the same wine ? I think the name makes all the difference but I honestly couldn't find a more over rated wine than Chasse Spleen.

What a lack of structure and balance. If it could be pleasant in the nose, I found it so watery and so fake in the mouth. Didn't express anything, that's really sad.

My opinion. (4037 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman

VdB

The eight precisely defined appellations of the whole of the Médoc (from Blanquefort Brook to the north of the Bordeaux built-up area, almost to the Pointe de Grave) may claim the Médoc appellation. But there is also a specific territory in the north of the peninsula which produces exclusively wines with this appellation. In the great majority, the Médocs come from the north of the peninsula. The great individuality of this region is that the number of vines has increased more recently here than elsewhere, apart from a few isolated spots where vines have grown for many years. Today, the size of the small estate has brought about the development of a powerful co-operative movement. Four co-operatives out of five belong to the group called Unimédoc which ensures aging, bottling and marketing a large proportion of their wines.
