Tasted by sean7711 on 4/8/2023 & rated 93 points: Nice bottle at 17 years. Still could go another 5. Tar and olive present. I haven’t had a lot of experience with older Dunn’s but believe the hype now (1289 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 10/11/2022 & rated 93 points: Very dark red/purple color . PNP, drank a couple glasses over 3 hours. Black currants, blackberry, tar, olive tapenade, wild herbs on the nose. The palate is full bodied and has a lovely satiny texture, black currants and blackberry with black raspberry coming into the picture gradually; tart black cherry, olive, spice, graphite, round softening tannins and some graphite. The tar and olive notes stand out. Still a good five years left anyway. 92+ to 93pts. (1293 views)
Tasted by markcic on 12/18/2021 & rated 92 points: Well my friend Harry usual Xmas party of around 70 people coming in and out was reduced to a small dinner party of vaccinated people who have had their booster shot. I supplied two magnums of wine for the festivities. This and a 2007 Saffredi. I opened both three hours before dinner. The Saffredi was served with the first two course and this bottle was served with the main course of duck breasts, roasted pheasant, duck confit and roasted salmon for the two people who did not eat poultry. The nose was dark fruit The palate was dark berries, tobacco, tree bark, earth and a touch of graphite on the finish which was moderately long. (2034 views)
Tasted by WStucker on 9/2/2021: Classic Dunn, but drink over the next few years (2189 views)
Tasted by kkleg on 7/16/2021 & rated 92 points: Dark color. Fragrant cedar and graphite nose after a bit of time in the decanter. The palate shows dark cherries and oak, with firm tannins. Medium-long finish but not as complex as Dunn can be.

This easily could last 5+ years, and likely much longer than that. I like my Dunn Cabs with lots of age, and this isn’t there yet. (2157 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 6/25/2021: Not poorly made but not pleasant either. Though as the wise Dave P rightly comments, I only gave this 10 minutes in the decanter. (2085 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 1/23/2021 & rated 91 points: Drinking great now, but plums and ash, smooth with great length. Will last another 5 years. (1858 views)
Tasted by Pjzlotnik on 12/27/2020 & rated 91 points: bright fuiet and softened tanins. did not require excessive decanter time (1699 views)
Tasted by wconnolly on 12/22/2020 & rated 90 points: Served from a magnum. Notes of lighter, red fruit, dark cherry, plum, cassis some licorice and tobacco on the palate. Tannins were fading a but this was still very good. A medium, jammy finish. (1546 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 10/24/2020 & rated 91 points: As before, more plums and dark cherries, in contrast to the blackcurrants of the 2005. Still excellent. Great now, but still has several years of life ahead. (1451 views)
Tasted by Billiken on 8/22/2020 & rated 92 points: Wonderful cab- refined fruits, licorice and tobacco on the nose (1509 views)
Tasted by winesteward on 3/20/2020 & rated 91 points: Very dark, youthful. Plum, black olive, balsamic note on the nose. Sweet, sweet, ripe plum and black cherry. Black olive. A touch jammy, but not overly so. Sweet spices. Very soft and juicy. Tannins all disappeared, but there's enough acidity to keep it all in balance. Good length. Very attractive now, but has room to develop more I think. (1619 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 3/6/2020 & rated 92 points: Compared to a 2006 Progeny SSR cab, this one was a clear second. But still a solid 92. Tar, tobacco leaf, black cherry, some blackberry. Finishes with moderate tannin. This is old world Napa cab. And in a nice spot. Really good now. I think the Howell can hold longer for sure, but this wine has a traditional sexiness to it that makes it hard to put down, even if it isn't the star on the table. Drink or hold, and I'm usually a fan of 'em a bit over the hill so...I guess it is time to enjoy these! (1695 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 12/8/2019 & rated 93 points: True to Dunn reputation, this was classic styled, elegant and age worthy. The fruit is dark - currant and blackberry - and not shy by any means. Secondary notes of leather, earth and tobacco. This is drinking quite young but it is open for enjoyment. The only question is what further development might occur. (1646 views)
Tasted by JGinMO on 5/17/2019 & rated 94 points: Fantastic. Gave it 39 minutes in the glass, fully integrated, secondary flavors, long finish. Recall thinking the DNV a little flabby compared to HM brother, but this drank like a mature left bank Bordeaux. (1988 views)
Tasted by shutto1992@gmail.com on 5/3/2019 & rated 93 points: Excellent Napa cab. I think this needs more time to mellow out but is excellent now. (1832 views)
Tasted by Redteeth on 4/24/2019: Drank at a restaurant without decanting. It opened up nicely and was very enjoyable; classic Napa. I wish I had more. Oh well, on to newer vintages. (1623 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 3/18/2019 & rated 92 points: At Trou Normand with Peter.
Wonderful deep red color and complex nose - more briar and cherries than blackcurrants. Drinking well now but clearly has a few more years left. (1645 views)
Tasted by Highlander on 12/9/2018: Very good, but not great. I am moving up my drinking window slightly. This still has time. Typical Dunn Cab....dark fruits, perfect clarity. Dryer than the HM cab. (1730 views)
Tasted by levinml on 8/4/2018 & rated 94 points: First time with this vintage and a real home run. Completely ready to go, in balance and tasting good over two nights (under pump). Classic flavor profile, nothing exotic, just what the old favorites used to be before the cults took over. (1709 views)
Tasted by MattB72 on 8/4/2018 & rated 92 points: Good wine. But I agree with some of the other folks here, this one probably doesn’t have that much more time. I would drink up now. (1605 views)
Tasted by HeavyT on 8/2/2018 & rated 89 points: On decline but still worth drinking. Not much structure left. Drink now. (1632 views)
Tasted by mikemboutiquewines on 6/1/2018 & rated 94 points: From magnum direct from winery. Loved it! Plenty of room to run. :) (1884 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 11/24/2017 & rated 91 points: very nice, if simple wine, not a ton of structure (which isn't surprising for an '06), good depth, black and blue fruit, some oak treatment which brings some silkiness, decent acidity but not high acidity, this wine comes from the bass - not tenor - side of the scale and therefore I think should be drunk in the next 5 years for sure, reasonable depth of material on the palate... some might call it boring, even if pleasant (2064 views)
Tasted by Winiac on 9/24/2017 & rated 90 points: Balanced but short and not very focused. On decline. Drink sooner than later. (1989 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
