Aromas of dusty cherry, briar, and cinnamon bark. On the palate, this shows creamy cherries, cherry-vanilla liqueur, dust, and some floral notes. Spice and dusty tannins come in on the finish. Medium bodied. Mature and where I like my Ridge zins for primary fruit - still fruity, but integrated. It has a nice creaminess, vanilla influence, but no overt sensation of toasted oak. Rich and delicious. Too bad this is my last bottle. This wine manages to avoid being overtly hot or alcoholic and does not have an unripe greenness that can plague zins. One of Ridge's better efforts in the millenium, the wine is a more of a dark crimson than purple. It has a nose of blueberry, maybe a hint of banana (perhaps a aldehyde, not the most pleasant part of the nose of this wine) and a waft of oak. It smells jut a bit like freshly polished dress shoes. The aldehydes/chemical constituents of the nose do not show on the palate. Fine, well integrated tannins frame berry, cherrry and hint of tar. The wine finish is just a tad short, maybe 15 seconds. Very appealing, especially with a well structured meal such as hamburger, tacos or italian sausage with tomato. Mouth was dominated by bing cherry with a hint of black
pepper and a dash of strawberry. Moderate-to-high
tannins suggest that it will withstand a few years of
cellaring. Good stuff for those of us who eschew the
