Tasted by ducster72 on 12/31/2023 & rated 93 points: For New Years with porchetta, for which it's a fine pairing. On opening, very delicate. That disassembled old wine character. Over the next two hours it picked up weight...color...flavor and made for a very nice glass of wine. Yellow fruit and honey, but dry with a little bit of petrol. Fine acidity. Probably won't get better, but I imagine these will provide pleasure for at least another decade. (296 views)
Tasted by acyso on 10/21/2023 & rated 93 points: Dinners at Tiny Pine Bistro; 10/21/2023-10/22/2023 (Carbondale, CO): Very botrytis-heavy, with a slight petrol note but far more honeyed floral tones on the nose. The palate is dense and oily but fully dry, and shows mature spice notes as well as more of the aforementioned botrytis qualities. (1017 views)
Tasted by cortoncharlie on 6/18/2023 & rated 95 points: Gorgeous nose. More honey than petrol now. Lovely balance and elegance. At peak. Maybe it may not reach the scale and power of a CSH, but it was so charming and drinkable. (681 views)
Tasted by PC99 on 9/5/2022 & rated 94 points: Muscat, japanese grape, Caramel, Petrol, orange peel, mint, oyster, creamy
Balance, excellent, but sharp, with acidity (1478 views)
Tasted by vetty on 7/21/2021 & rated 93 points: very fresh, this bottle is in good condition.
Pronounced aroma of Bubble gum, peach, lime, lemon, lots of flower and fruits.
it's getting more and more creamy after aeration. medium- finish. (2519 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 7/21/2021 & rated 92 points: Honey, peach, petro, apricot, classic aged Riesling flavors, with superb acidity and freshness. Almost zesty on the palate, sharp, mineral, good flavors. Slightly simple but a very good bottle. 92-93 (2373 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 6/19/2021: Light golden. Petrol and slight mustiness blew off to reveal light botrytis, smoke, and stone fruit. Medium to full bodied, great feel, gloriously dry. As before, an ageless marvel that is full of stone and great acidity. Monumental wine. (2608 views)
Tasted by pepmi on 11/26/2020 & rated 92 points: One of two remaining bottles of a case purchased upon release. I can't think of a better opportunity to open this than on Thanksgiving Day within such a challenging year coming to a close. Much to be grateful for when so many have faced hardship.

An amber treasure lying dormant except for the disruption of a housing move here and there. Tonight we are drinking the bottle in two flights -- as an aperitif before dinner and then with dessert.

Still a bit closed even with decanting. A nectarine nose is most prominent with hints of bitter orange rind, especially once the wine enters the mouth. White hibiscus and apple blossom flowers. Quite round and full. I keep coming back to the orange rind, which in the zen of things is either distracting... or attracting my attention. Such is the art and beauty of an aged wine.

Further notes following dinner and an hour or so in the decanter. (2472 views)
Tasted by ducster72 on 2/28/2020 & rated 96 points: Grabbed one of my remaining bottles that looked like hell. The cork split in half even while gently using an ah so to try to wriggle it out.

Needn't have been concerned. 30 years young. Sort of a glowing mouthful of yellow fruit and flowers around a core of mineral and acid. Just fantastic. The aging curve on a great vintage of CFE really is remarkable. (2472 views)
Tasted by Greatold1980 on 2/2/2020 & rated 96 points: This aged graciously! Amazing flamboyant nose of exotic fruit, mango, pineappel, lime and a whiff of petrol. Lively acidity, slight impression of sweetness. Endless finish, just absolutely stunning!! (1698 views)
Tasted by bhouk on 2/1/2020: Rich ambered hue. Shows the merits of aging Riesling. Lanolin richness that in my experience is unique to Riesling. Hard to describe, hard to compare — the great ones are often like that. (1629 views)
Tasted by MAOC on 1/3/2020: With dinner on NYE. A bit of a disappointment vs previous bottle - lacked any intensity of fruit but without adding significant tertiary interest (albeit there were hints). Equally didn’t appear flawed, just not what it probably should have been ***1/2 (1727 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 11/4/2019: Another Wine Slog Across France; 11/2/2019-11/13/2019 (Paris, Alsace, Burgundy, Encore Paris): Tasted next to 1990 Clos Ste. Hune. This was lighter in color and more subdued on the nose with much less petrol. Utterly dry. Dense and powerful with strong (actually crazy) lemon acidity and a good dollop of soil, yet less refined and complex than its stablemate. Incredible perstence and stamina over 3 hours. A marvel on its own, it was just edged out tonight by an all time great wine. Bottles in this condition could go another decade.

Second day-It has lost nothing but gained petrol. Still aromatic, the brisk acidity remains, and the citrus is even brighter. Incredible stuff. (2639 views)
Tasted by ekessler on 8/3/2019: One of the best dry Alsatian wines I've ever had. Right up there with Clos St. Hune. (1567 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 8/3/2019: Mostly 1989 Dinner (The Progress, San Francisco): Yellow, remarkably light for a dry wine of this age. Little in the way of high toned secondary aromas until open for several hours. Full body, bigger and denser than the Clos Ste. Hune per my recollection. Dry, peach flavors, late lemon, fantastic acidity and soil, great length. Iconic wine that feels as though it still could withstand another decade of aging. Remarkable in every way. (1962 views)
Tasted by Dehrmann on 11/11/2018 & rated 95 points: Citrus bright precise...delicious...Marcus & Annette dinner in Hamptons after white Chave, Cambette and before ‘95 Haut Brion and ‘90 Montrose (2086 views)
Tasted by Jaber on 3/14/2018 & rated 92 points: Nice hay colour. Fragrant on the nose with complexity, aromas of pinneaple, mangos and dried fruit. Perfect balance and long finish. (2771 views)
Tasted by Kemo Sabe on 1/28/2018 & rated 94 points: Sweet yellow fruit, great acidity. Highly complex wine with lots of nuance. Petrol, yellow and white flowers. Great freshness. Medium sweetness with impeccable balance. Liked this a lot. (2717 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 11/14/2017 & rated 94 points: Dinner with the wine group (The Perennial, SF): Aromatic, lime, slate, dry, excellent fruit, balanced, long finish. 94 (3108 views)
Tasted by docjer on 8/13/2017: Early petro taste (2799 views)
Tasted by Vini Ciclismo on 12/25/2016 & rated 95 points: Perfect lemon colour, lustrous, beautiful.
Ripe citrus fruits, lemons limes and grapefruit. Some slight 'age' on the fruit adds depth and richness, but honey and honeysuckle florals finish it off nicely.
Supple, fleshy texture, lovely mouthfeel. Lemony, honeysuckle, orange rind, mineral zest and sherbet. Beautiful balance, timeless, with a long long clean finish. Damn good. (3222 views)
Tasted by LW31 on 12/17/2016 & rated 94 points: Delicious. Incredible balance, depth. Incredibly fresh and lively still but with wonderful complexity--smokey, slightly herbal, earthy mushroom quality, a bit of tropical fruit left too. A top notch example of the best of Alsace. Served with roast guinea fowl, cabbage and spaetzle. (2602 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 8/21/2016 & rated 93 points: Canele: deep golden color; at first slight oxy notes, but opened up to reveal slight nutty notes, honey, marzipan, burnt/caramelized pie crust-nectarine notes; mid-weight, a bit light in mid palate, but makes it lighter on its feet and more elegant. Complex and long. Perfect match for onion tart. (2863 views)
Tasted by Musigny1955 on 7/8/2016 & rated 95 points: (thanks to EB, drunk with LES, PA, PLG at Kitchen on Common. Perfect fill, cork fine pulled with Durand. Pop and pour). Fantastic nose, light yellow color, lime, stones, peaches, very full flavors and sleekly big fruit. Very long and persistent finish, indeed mouth watering. Precise wine yet full of exotic scents and flavors. Sure wish I had some of this juice! By recollection only Clos St Hune (also thanks to EB) outdoes this. Drinking really well now, no reason to rush to drink though. Wow. (3003 views)
Tasted by BradKNYC on 4/26/2016: Two visitors, three birthdays and seventeen wines from all over. (ABA Turkish Restaurant): From magnum and as Kool & the Gang would say, "she's fresh (fresh,) exciting!" No real sign of petrol in this bottle, but it's full of its typical lime character with plenty of stoney mineral and light peach notes. Beautiful balance and depth here with age having rounded the edges off the acid spine, giving it a friendlier mouthfeel. A-/A. (3695 views)
