Tasted by Duncan H on 1/17/2021 flawed bottle: Completely gone. (972 views)
Tasted by Duncan H on 11/15/2020 flawed bottle: Completely gone! (973 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 9/28/2018 flawed bottle: Northern Rhône WIMPS, (La Trompette, London): Volatile, VA. The wrong sort of furniture polish. (1957 views)
Tasted by hargy on 7/16/2017 & rated 93 points: an outstanding mature complex wine that is a wonderful example of hermitage - lovely (2277 views)
Tasted by jreis on 1/22/2017: Nose of dried cherries, violets and a hint of smoky meat and charred oak. Nice texture and acidity, similar flavors on the palate, but not quite the oomph I would like from Hermitage. Also just a touch too much oak which dries out the finish. (2796 views)
Tasted by Eags25 on 12/2/2016 & rated 91 points: Excellent fruit - even still. Tannic & rustic - lacked acidity (1976 views)
Tasted by Eric Guido on 8/24/2016 & rated 92 points: The nose showed a dark and rich and mature profile of dried cherry, olive, crushed fall leaves, cedar, old spices and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, I found rich and almost sappy textures with ripe plum, moist earth tones and bitter inner florals. It finished with medium length, completely resolved tannin, and a bitter twang of dried black fruits. (2842 views)
Tasted by Chomsky on 2/4/2015: Not bad, but not exciting. Oak is immediately obvious on the nose; the palate is better but soft and lacking definition. (3435 views)
Tasted by chatters on 9/13/2014: Mature Syrah/Shiraz Hunter Valley Supper (Hunter Valley): Nose of mushrooms, leather, herbs, spice - black peppers, some black olives, biscuit. In the mouth medium minus intensity flavours of liquorice, aniseed, black olives, slight mushroom and leather with some spicy notes. Find tannins and it's quite warm on the medium plus length. Goes down rather too easily. Nice (2912 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 5/27/2014: Northern Rhone WIMPS (La Trompette, Chiswick): Lovely old-fashioned bloody, meaty nose, touch of black pepper. Still quite tannic on the palate, smoky fruit, meaty, good length firm finish. ***1/2. (3777 views)
Tasted by RISM on 8/9/2013 & rated 92 points: Dark ruby, almost black in the glass. Expansive, powerful bouquet of predominantly black fruit - blackberries and blueberries - with lots of spice - cinnamon, black pepper, turmeric. Palate is intense, fruity (with the same black fruit, but also some wild raspberries and cherries, slightly (but not overwhelmingly) tannic, with a long, silky finish. Showed its class alongside two top S.African syrah mourvedre/syrahs of similar age (Columella 2000 and Observatory 2000). This is fine wine and great value for money ! (3613 views)
Tasted by WDK on 6/29/2012 & rated 81 points: Almost dead (4818 views)
Tasted by Dorset Iain on 10/22/2011 & rated 91 points: Opened and decanted an hour before drinking - significant deposits of sediment. Smokiness and red fruit came through on the nose. Spice and black pepper when initially tasted & the wine opened up beautifully showing good structure and length with fruit and a hint of raisins. (4240 views)
Tasted by pereik on 9/18/2011 & rated 89 points: Surpricingly young on the nose with red berries, oak and some secondary aromas. Good consentration and fairly long lasting taste. (3767 views)
Tasted by Breedlove on 7/27/2011 & rated 91 points: Couleur rouge sombre, reflets tuilés.
(3635 views)
Tasted by ecola on 7/17/2011 & rated 94 points: Great earth and cherry flavors. Great now and will continue for at least ten years. (2827 views)
Tasted by placecarnot on 5/9/2011 & rated 86 points: Bretty for the first hour, got much better with air. (1000 views)
Tasted by rwatkin on 4/2/2011 & rated 91 points: Red meat and leather on the nose with a medium bodied mid-palate of syrah fruit.
Lacked any greeness orexcess acidity that I might have expected. Really nice to drink now. (2489 views)
Tasted by Fielding on 3/15/2011 & rated 89 points: Decanted and then drank over four hours. Dark red in glass, but very light at the edges. Reticent nose of red berries and licorice, with notes of mint and vanilla. More structure than fruit on the palate, with some sour cherry and black pepper on the finish. It may just be the bottle, but this one seemed prematurely past it's its peak. (2620 views)
Tasted by bigwineguy420 on 2/10/2011 & rated 89 points: @ La Sirenne A bit lean at first but it opened up with some air. Translucent garnet/purple color. Medium bodied, more of a lean, acidic style with notes of black olive, pepper, tar and leather. Great with cassoulet, and quite a contrast to the other wine in the flight. Ready to drink. (2586 views)
(2713 views)
Tasted by french16 on 6/15/2010: Côte-Rôtie vs Hermitage: The nose is polished. Dark fruits, prunes, a light touch of oak. Some typical smoke and olives (very light though) notes. Med body with a good structure, round, you can sense everything is there to make this wine a great one but it needs more time. A little reticent on the mid palate and more simple than the nose. Well balanced with good acidity, the long finish is promising. (3459 views)
Tasted by hargy on 6/1/2010 & rated 91 points: wonderful gentle hermitage with excellent balance and length- all dark fruit and spice - improved considerably in the glass - drink now or keep (3049 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 5/22/2010 & rated 93 points: Decanted and immediately served. Deep ruby core, narrow pale garnet rim. Intense nose, still quite youthful with deep pure blackcurrant fruit, some vanilla, black pepper and meaty edge becoming more prominent with time in glass. Medium/full bodied on the palate, lovely peppery black fruit, bloody meat, dark, powerful and concentrated yet balanced, fresh and focussed with very fine tannins and a very long savoury, meaty, juicy, slightly grippy finish. Lovely, drinking now but, as others have already said, with many years of life still ahead of it. (3227 views)
Tasted by fatherdamo on 2/28/2010 & rated 92 points: so soft and rich. hints of liquorice, good complexity and a wondeful finish. (3236 views)

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)

Since 1996, the firm of Delas Frères has fully retrieved the glory and spirit that made its fame. A highly motivated team is proud to help give a new lease of life to this great Rhône Valley wine merchant firm, founded in 1835. Under the guidance of its current management, numerous investments have been made at the winery at Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, near Tournon-sur-Rhône. A specially designed fermentation hall for the making of red wines, and a thorough rebuilding of the ageing cellar are amongst the key elements of the new quality charter from Delas Frères. This can be summed up in one sentence : place man and wine at the centre of the stage, together with terroir.

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.

Hermitage

Guide to Hermitage wine Guide to Cote Rotie - Read about the Northern Rhone Valley

• The appellation stretches over 3 communes in the Drôme "département" : Tain-l'Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Larnage.

• The soils are a combination of granite with alluvial quaternary delta deposits, and, on the eastern side, Pliocene clay. This diversity explains the numerous different names given to vineyard plots within the appellation : Bessards, Greffieux, Méal, Roucoule, Beaumes, etc.

• The meso-climate provides shelter from the north winds, where the majority of the slopes is well exposed, facing south.

•The vineyards area adds up to 134 hectares/331 acres, with an annual production of 3,635 hectoliters. Authorized maximum yield is 40 hectoliters/hectare (2.3 US tons/acres).

• Grape varieties : Syrah (an addition of up to 15% of Marsanne or Roussanne is allowed).
