Tasted by paul195 on 11/14/2019 flawed bottle: 92 Butteaux v 92 Montee du Tonnerre Montee du Tonnerre

Unfortunately the Butteaux was corked and was replaced by a 1992 Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne.

The MdT was thankfully in proper shape. Barely mid yellow color with a nose showing citrus and tropical fruit notes with hints of chalk. The palate showed similarly, the fruit here is yellower and sweeter and lacks the crispness and acidity than I normally associate with Raveneau having more in common with the Mersaults in the next flight. 1992 was not a great Raveneau year IMO (1336 views)
Tasted by Raage on 10/24/2019 flawed bottle: CdV
(1312 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 6/10/2019 & rated 93 points: Butter, caramel, burnt sugar and cake. Drank like a good aged batard as the terroir’s minerality has all mellowed down. Very good length. The richness and ripeness reflected the vintage very well. 92-93 (1525 views)
Tasted by kr522 on 9/26/2018 & rated 90 points: clean and focused but lacking any real spark. not the depth or length i was hoping for. others liked it more than me (1701 views)
Tasted by David Paris (dbp) on 4/18/2014 & rated 90 points: France: 38 Wines from Kermit Lynch (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Soft, mild, and slightly funky aromas. Rich and heavy body on the palate, which is smooth, soft, and pretty mild, showing some funky old lemon notes. Overall, quite lean and mild. Lean again on the finish, with decent acidity driving tart notions, but really not too much depth here. (6160 views)
Tasted by paul195 on 1/18/2013: Unlike the excellent bottle over the holidays, this bottle had lost its wax capsule, was clearly a darker color and alas was over the hill and oxidized (5139 views)
Tasted by paul195 on 1/1/2013 & rated 92 points: Nice golden color, initially subdued bouquet which opened nicely after 30 minutes revealing hints of lemon and honeysuckle. Nice texture and finish. Good balance, fully mature burg. (5139 views)
Tasted by KenK on 11/24/2012 & rated 94 points: Great lemon lime aromas, Shows good brightness with mineral extract. Quite dry a fine depth of flavor with beautiful texture. 93 (5537 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 11/23/2012 & rated 93 points: Friday after Thanksgiving (FAT) (Palm Beach Gardens FL): Tasting, brief note. Lemon and lemon peel aromas. Powerful and long with great texture and minerality start-to-finish. Great freshness for its age. (3496 views)
Tasted by psmith on 11/23/2012 & rated 93 points: Friday after Thanksgiving II (Palm Beach Gardens, FL): Viscous, oily, very light on its feet. Chalk. Citrus notes. Still quite youthful. Musty undercurrent adds a nice complexity. Very nice. (6137 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 6/26/2008 & rated 92 points: Raveneau 1er Cru Chablis Vertical Blindtasted ('83-'96) (Palo Alto, California): Group's #1 (my #4) – 42 pts; 6 1st place votes, 5 2nd place votes, 1 third, 0 last places – Nice canary yellow color; tight cream, earth and grapefruit nose; tasty, tight lemon, sweet lemon, mineral and wheat palate with good acidity and slightly oily texture; medium finish 92+ pts. (2372 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 12/21/2006 & rated 92 points: Raveneau Chablis “Butteaux” 1984-1999 Blindtasting (Tom's House, Palo Alto, CA): Group's #7 (my #4) – 97 pts.; 0, 2, 3, 4 – canary golden color; sherry and sweet lemon butter nose; sweet/tart lemon and cream palate with oak edges, minerals elegant and earthy at the same time, with a waxy texture showing toward the medium-plus finish 92+ pts. (1711 views)
Tasted by Bunski on 9/15/2005 & rated 90 points: Had this with a nice Wild (White) Alaskan King Salmon. The fruit is fading maybe a touch and the butter is there. No more of the nice steely mineral finish as is more evident in younger Chablis. A very nice drinking wine however that goes very well with food. (2499 views)
Tasted by mnh on 5/1/1995: Typical chablis features but not earthshaking (961 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
