Had a chance to meet up with some co-workers after work and open up some bottles. My manager had made a call on the restaurant and was able to get the corkage waived
A fun time as always. Lots of fun bottles were opened up and a lot of good conversation. The food wasn't all that great, but the wines more then made up for that
2005 L'Angevin Chardonnay 88 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
nose: classic california chard nose of butter, citrus tones, oranges, and a touch of lemons. Nice depth, but comes off fairly standard
taste: medium/full bodied with tones of butter, citrus', orange peels and a bit of oak as well on the back end
overall: a fairly standard chard. Everything is well in place, but it doesn't really do anything all that outstanding

2005 Luke Donald Collection Claret 89 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
nose: rich nose with tones of dark red cherries, red fruits, red and black currants with a touch of spice and oak
taste: fuller bodied with smooth and plush tannins along with a good feel and tones of dark red cherries, black currants, spice tones and some bits of oak
overall: an excellent bordeaux blend. Well balanced and with good fruit, this is very california at the same time with the noticeable oak

2006 Montagna Cabernet Sauvignon Tre Vigneti 91 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
nose: very expressive and pure nose of red fruits, red currants, black licorice, red cherries, and a touch of anise. Great depth with a style that draws you in
taste: great and silky tannins with full bodied tones of red fruits, red cherries, black licorice, anise and a bit of oak on the back end. Well balanced with the tannins showing off the youth of the wine
overall: could use a couple of years to fully round into form, but this is really lovely right now with a good decant. Well balanced with a pure and expressive style that is very enjoyable and lovely

2003 Château Duhart-Milon 89 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
nose: bright and penetrating nose of pencil lead, spice box, cedar, red fruits and dark red cherries. Good depth, but is holding back a bit
taste: very good medium/full body with rich tannins and balanced tones of pencil lead, cedar, dark red berries, dark red fruits, some red cherries and tobacco tones
overall: this got about an hour or so of decanting and probably could've used more. Needs some more time to fully come together, but holds the vintage well and has a good intensity to it without being overdone

2005 Château Clos de Sarpe 91 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
nose: rich and modern nose of dark red cherries, herbs, cedar, berries, and some bits of black currants. Fairly tight, but showing good depth and robustness on the nose
taste: very good medium/full body with chewy and big tannins as well as tones of berries, dark red cherries, herbs and some black currants
overall: in need of some serious nap time before its ready. This didn't get too much of a decant, and it really could've used one. Lots of promise, this won't be an elegant wine as it has a light-heavyweight quality to it, but there is a lot to like that needs time to come out

1989 Giovanni Corino Barolo Vigna Giachini 93 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
nose: lovely and perfumed nose of leather, roses, roasted herbs, red cherries, star anise, and fresh picked berries. Great depth and very inviting as it gets going in the glass
taste: very pretty and deep tones of herbs, mint, roses, various red florals, star anise and tones of dark red cherries all balance out well together with a medium feel and medium+ acidity
overall: the tones are fairly well resolved right now and this should be in a holding pattern for a while. This was a really good bottle and was very pretty. It showed off the great aromatics that come with aged barolo

2004 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 93 Points
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
nose: shows off the pegau funk right off the bat, but then opens up to reveal deep and luscious tones of black cherries, kirsch liqueur, creamed black fruits, garrigue and some underbrush tones. Took a bit of swirling to get it going, but it opened up fairly fast
taste: great medium/full body with polished tannins and deftly balanced tones of black cherries, kirsch liqueur, garrigue and a good amount of black fruits. Very good depth, but the tannins are showing off the youth of the wine
overall: a really great young pegau. Needs more time to really show itself, but this was extremely good right off of pop n pour and it opened up pretty fast. Balance is the key word on this wine as it has a ton and has a real attractive dark profile as well

1975 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 92 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
nose: aromatic and wafting tones of cedar, black currants, dark red cherries, earth, cassis and some bits of cranberries. Very good depth with a real touch of class to it
taste: lovely medium bodied feel with good tannins still showing along with tones of cedar, black currants, dark red cherries and some cassis and dark red fruits
overall: This is showing some of the harder tannins of the vintage. Well balanced with a real elegant style to it that is very enjoyable as well as good ruby color with some notable bricking
