Chris and Brig's House
Tasted Sunday, July 4, 2010 - Monday, July 5, 2010 by brigcampbell with 521 views

Introduction

A full house again this year with Kim, Eloy, and Carly, Traci and the kids, Chuck, Brooke, and Nicole, Brandon and Char, and John Lawerence. Special guest was Nolan who flew down from Oregon to stay the week with us. Chris made her always wildly popular pulled pork BBQ sandwiches which everyone loves with Char's potato salad and bbq beans. There was bruchetta and grilled thai shrimp for apetizers. Dessert was cupcakes and Char's homemade cherry pie, amazing stuff.

Chris made some fantastic sangria loaded with lots of frozen berries and sliced fruit, a perfect drink for sitting in the sun.

Kids played in the pool for 5 hours without getting out while the adults had a serious baggo tourney in the street which Chuck dominated again. Then it was fireworks from the backyard and although there was a bit of june gloom rolling in we counted at least 10 different firework shows from Dana Point to Irvine.

Very light color, faded straw. Pear and apricot nose. Very nice buttery fruit palate with glycerin mouthfeel. Medium finish. Suprisingly nice at great QPR at $10.

  • 2007 Planeta Sicilia La Segreta Rosso 85 Points

I was stumped tasting blind, seemed like a paso cab with the fruit but there was more going on palate. I guess so with 50% Nero, 25% Merlot, 20% Syrah, and 5% Cab Franc.

This is definitely more new world than your classic rustic Nero D'Avola which I really enjoy. The paired well with hearty pulled pork BBQ sandwich with homemade sause and coleslaw.

decanted for 2 hours. Nice big cali zin with huge strawberry jam nose, I wasn't that impressed with the palate, it was good just not matching the nose. Decent QPR and perfect quaffer for BBQ or burgers.

  • 2007 Textbook Cabernet Sauvignon Fin de journée 88 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    (7/5/2010)

Very solid napa cab for $22. Has the nose, structure, and classic fruit/oak from the area. This was my only bottle (I won it) but if I had another I definitely let it cellar for a few more years in the hopes it might bump up a few more points, it certainly has the potential.
