Introduction

Our first tasting stop of the day was Tablas Creek. The winery itself is considered to be one of the "far out wineries" as it is very far out from town where no cell signal has ever seen the light of day. Allow transportation time to and from accordingly. The tasting room is more of an ad hoc affair that has grown over the years as the popularity of the winery has grown. They are currently constructing an add-on facility to the existing winery were a new, modern and very much larger tasting room will be housed. The current tasting room is very well staffed with a knowledgeable and friendly staff. The tasting fee is $10.00 per person to taste through six wines. It includes your glass (as does nearly every tasting we've done since arriving in California; we'd have two cases of glasses alone by now if we kept them all) and is fully credited towards an equivalent purchase. The two white and four red wines tasted were uniformly good; all coming in at a minimum of 90 points each. The 2007 Espris de Beaucastel Rouge and Blanc were both the standouts during the tasting. For those interested Tablas Creek is currently having a "Hot Weather Shipping" sale where they'll only charge you a flat $10.00 shipping charge for any number of bottles you purchase through the tasting room. Also worthy of note is if you purchase the Espirit wines all shipping is waived. Given the quality of the wines tasted and the free freight option we picked up a mixed six pack of the two Esprit offerings that'll be shipped in October once the weather cools.
